OT: Baseball vs. Basketball blogs

Why do baseball blogs seem to receive so much more attention than basketball blogs? For example, Lonestarball, the Rangers blog on SBN, has a much larger community following the team than this one does. I don't think its better writing (Wes, you're doing a great job), and the Mavericks, without much debate, are a far better team.

Is there just something inherent about baseball that attracts bloggers?

I read and comment on both LSB and this blog.  additionally, I comment on another Mavs related site/blog.

Quite frankly, I do not think that there is ore following for baseball over basektball.  The case is that this is still a relatively new blog on the SB site and its following is still growing.  I think the LSB site has been around t least 1-2 years.  That makes the difference.

The other Mavs site that I go to has been around many, many years and there is a HUGE following...much more so tha LSB.  For that matter, the SB sites as a whole are still new.

Give it time and this site and other SB sites will grow and be huge.

The writing ont his blog is excellant along with the analysis so it will do just fine.

I own a business and this blog is just like that...the firstfew months/years are the hardest and growth comes in spurts and then you hit a great stride an just continue upward....same will happen here.

The admin (Wes) is too good, the analysis is very good and the contributors (like us) add good comments and thoughts so a good base to start with.

Just my 2 cents worth...

I've always assumed that baseball blogs were the most active on the web.  Not that I've researched it past my own experiences.

Baseball with their sabermetrics is just a bloggier kind of sport.  Basketball is more straight-forward and I think has less passionate fans.

I love my Mavs and Rangers and I love both this and lonestarball, but you pose a good question.

Just a new blog....
it will take time, i agree.  One thing that was already mentioned was that baseball is just more of blogging sport.  I here the hardline say all the time that baseball is a talking sport and i believe this to be true.  the trade-off is that it is also harder to sit through unless u are a die hard fan.  Basketball is a fun, exciting, upbeat sport that is easier for any-one to get into.  I think that this blog will only get better as time goes on, its just a matter of those being interested in discussing the mav's finding the spot to have those discussions.

Wes
A quick semi-related question: How is the traffic on this site compare to the traffic you were getting on the old site?

Just wondering if the move to SBN and subsequent name change added any hits to the site.

I like this site better, fwiw, because it's so much easier to comment.

I hate you, David Stern.

Traffic is definitely increasing
But it's hard to know exactly the impact switching has had.

The format is undeniably better though and increased comments lead to more page views and more repeat visitors in a day.
