Avery sheds some light on lineup

This was posted on dallas-mavs.com. Bullet 2 seems to contain some nice info:

Didn't see this anywhere in the last few threads. Avery was on GAC yesterday (wed. 10/24) and had the following observations:

  1. No comment about Kobe, which was prompted by Galloway preceeding his question with a "I know you can't talk about another player under contract with a different team but.."
  2. Lack of size is something they need to address at the 2. He knows the starting lineup and says we'll see it once the team is back full and healthy (presumably, once Josh returns). He says Jason Terry has a really good shot at being this year's 6th man of the year. Jerry Stackhouse will probably be the best 7th man in the league.
  3. Talked about him having to stretch out the team last year because of how weak the bench was, and that made them fatigued down the stretch. Said he hopes to be able to avoid that this year, but will not take anything in the regular season for granted.
  4. Pointed out that the team faces less uncertainty this time than it did last year when they lost DA's leadership, Griffin's consistency, and Van Horn who "made a shot or two once in a while."

Van Horn
What shots was he referring to?

Arod of the NBA
Those huge shots he would hit against the Memphis Grizzlies of the world. Of course he was MIA against the Spurs (save for one game) and any other formidable foe.

Hassell?
So are we lookin at Hassell or perhaps Eddie Jones as the starting 2 guard? Sounds like an Adrian Griffin type starter.

Jones, I believe
According to Avery's interview with Norm Hitzgis yesterday on the Ticket.

It could
be worse.

I'm of the school that thinks it doesn't really matter who starts, what matters is the total minutes played and how the matchups are used.

I also think that until George gets back, we wont really know what the roster at the swing spot is going to look like.

I'd be more excited
If he hadn't admitted to being out of shape. I'd much rather see Hassell.

Agreed.
Hassell has to start, imo.

Looks like we don't have a shooting guard
If this team had Kobe or AK-47 we would have a true shooting guard.(with AK-47, Howard would be the shooting guard)
I know how to spell Dirk, M-V-P

If we got
Kobe, we would be in the same situation as the Lakers..

All of our other positions would be holes...

I would rather have 1 hole rather than 3 or 4...

It also looks like...
we are moving away from the "Terry era." I'm reading more into this.I think the Mav's are seeing if this team can function without Terry, so they can use him as trade bait later in the season.
