Around SBN: Peyton Manning Medically Cleared To Resume NFL Career

Moe Ager...

I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on Moe and him being sent down to the D League.  I for one am pretty disappointed so far with him this year...I remember when we drafted him I was thinking he was going to be the sleeper of the draft and that he could be a starter by now.

I know he needs time and is young but if he were to develop earlier it might be easier to make some trades this season...especially if we were to trade JET...Moe could have been a solid #2 this season.  I don't think we are in dire need to make a trade or anything...but I believe it would be easier to pull the trigger on a trade if Moe could handle being a starter or be the 6th man.

Just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were about Moe and see if anyone shared my opinion here.

he definitely needs work
he hasn't impressed me at all ever since we drafted him.  i think moving him to the dleague is a good idea. let's see if he gets better. if not, we'll just cut him loose. no sense wasting a roster spot on him when he always looks lost the few times he gets the nod to play.

it's a shame, really.

I was disappointed
I was disappointed that Ager was kept this offseason instead of Benga.

I would not bat an eye one bit if they cut Ager tomorrow.

His problem seems to be
that there is no one thing that he can do really well. To me, he has the tools to be a very good defensive player, and I think he should commit himself to that.

It doesn't look like he can stick in this league with just his offense, so working on becoming a defensive specialist seems like his best bet.

I
Have not been impressed.  A volume shooter, with spotty percentages, at the swing?  How is he different than like 987,942,676,584,753 players out there trying to get a roster spot?  Good god, I'd rather have JJ Freaking Reddick- at least with him you get dead-eye 3 point shooting.

My take
I really don't think it's that he doesn't do one thing well.  From what I've seen, it's that he hasn't figured out how to be a role player.  He can't tell a good shot from a bad shot when he's the 4th or 5th option on the floor.  I agree that he could become a good defender, but I think he has too much offensive talent to just focus on defense and try to become a specialist.

He is playing like a "volume shooter", but that's something that he should be able to change relatively easily, because that's just a mental thing.  Hopefully seeing what Eddie Jones is doing will help him figure it out, because we need what Jones is giving us at SG, but it would be so much nicer if we had someone there who could actually make some buckets on top of Jones' good decision making and smart defense.

(BTW, I don't think you're stating anything mind-blowing by saying you'd rather have Reddick . . . he was taken 17 spots ahead of Moe, after all.  Sure, it was a bit too high, but he's clearly the better prospect and there isn't really any debate about it.)
