Josh Powell Hurt

Not Shaun Livingston hurt or anything, but pretty scary.

Hustling after a loose ball with just over a minute to play, Powell dove head-first at the feet of Bucks guard Lynn Greer. Powell kept sliding and rammed into the scorer's table.

The remaining crowd and the Warriors bench gasped as Powell lay for several seconds with what looked like a neck injury.

Powell recovered and waved off the staff, signaling that he was fine. He finished the game -- logging 22 minutes and totaling 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists -- but bent over in pain after the horn sounded.

After being attended to in the locker room, it was decided he would spend the night at the hospital. So while his teammates got dressed and headed for the team bus, Powell headed for an ambulance, strapped to a board with his neck in a brace.

While it certianly sounds scary to hear that he was strapped to a board in a neck brace, as a former EMT, I'll add that this is standard practice for anyone with a suspected neck injury.  It's necessary for the patients well being, and the ambulance service's insurance.  Every EMT hears horror stories of people who are in auto accidents, decline ambulance transport, go home, and then fall stone dead due to a broken neck.  You think you're fine, then you turn your head the wrong way, and that's that.  So while I wish him the best, I also wouldn't be surprised if they just determine that he sprained his neck and is back playing next week.  The biggest danger he has probably is like any joint sprain- that it'll swell and stiffen up.
