AM Jump for North Texas

Ever since ESPN's Daily Quickie went away, I've been going to their AM Jump articles every morning.  Today's had a few items that metroplex basketball fans might enjoy.

3 I've Had Some Mean Greens. Cabbage, For Example.
The North Texas Mean Green earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament last night by knocking off Arkansas State, 83-75, in the Sun Belt Conference championship game. This will be the Mean Green's first Tournament trip since 1988. That's a long time. Just think of all that has happened since 1988. Like, for instance, North Texas making zero trips to the NCAA Tournament.

4 They Have 16, Going On 17
The Mavericks upped its winning streak to 16 last night with a 102-89 home win over the Nets. I think the streak might stop there, though. Dallas' next game is on Sunday against the Lakers and if L.A. has 41-year-old Scottie Pippen in the lineup, the Mavericks have no one to match up with him. Except maybe white-haired assistant coach Del Harris.

So let me get this straight, the Mavericks hold preseason practice at the UNT facilities (my alma mater) and UNT then goes to the NCAA tournament for the first time in almost 20 years.  Coincidence?  I think not.  The Mavericks are so good, their mojo rubbed off on the Mean Green propelling them to Cinderella status.

Remember this when they bust your bracket in a few weeks.  Ok so maybe they won't bust your bracket or even win a game in the tournament (note their only chance of winning a game is if they play in the silly 64-65 play-in).  But Mean Green athletics doesn't lend itself to bragging very much so I had to get it in now while I could.
