KG to the MAVS??... again

Saw this article

this afternoon, not sure what to think of it after all the talk that has been going on with KG.  It appears as though there are about 15 of the 30 teams in the nba trying to cut a deal with the timberwolves.... which is why no one is able to get him.  I was all for this when we lost, but that was my overreaction after we loss to GS. We all know cubes isnt letting go of dirk... so I wont even consider that at this point...
I'd hate to lose harris AND HOWARD both in a trade, I dont think we progress to much with just kg and dirk if the mavs do that, but if we throw in one or the other with terry, buck, diop, some picks... that might be good.  I def rather see harris go than josh, but i doubt that will happen.  But harris still has lots to improve on and who knows what kind of season he'll have if JET isnt there.  Thats still a lot for US to give up, and I just dont think thats a comparable offer to what other teams are offering him... like phx who SHOULD give up marion, atl's pick and barbosa/diaw.

It is however intriguing to think of a front court with kg and dirk... but that really doesnt help us against turn around 3's 30 feet out with 2 guys on him, probably fouled baron davis then does it.  But it does stop amare, and contains duncan... and most of all opens the world up for dirk and his offensive game... and that I think I like a little more right now given durant and oden are in the conference now also.
Dirk could play the small on offense, and the pf on defense... give kg is WAY more athletic than dirk is. What do ya'll think?

Can't happen
We don't have the players they'd need.

Harris + Howard + expiring contract would do it, but Howard is one of those base year dudes, so I don't think there's any possible way we could make the salaries match.

It is awesome to think about though.

C-Damp, Diop
F- KG, Fazekas
F- Dirk, Buckner
G- Ager, Stack
PG- Terry, Barrea

Plus whoever we could land with our midlevel. That team would have a very good chance to win a title.

Trades
You could do a Damp + Buckner + Howard for KG (real gm trade id 4067531) or a Damp + Terry + Bucker for KG deal (real gm trade id 4067529).  From Minnesota's perspective, they would probably rather have the first one.  Even getting an all-star and a starting center might not be enough to get KG.  I'm sure they are getting better offers especially if the Suns are involved.

I don't think
they'd want any part of Damp's contract.

just outta curiosity...
what if we threw in damp with howard and garbage? would damps contract help with that? I'd doubt minny would take that, but I would think that would have to work with him in there right?

I don't know if I like that lineup
Dirk at the 3 would be a defensive disaster. Can you imagine him trying to go up against some of the quicker 3s in this league?
In addition, NOBODY on that entire team can distribute.

Yah
KG would have to be the 3 defensively.

KG and Dirk are both good passers for big men, so I don't think lacking a distributor is going to be a huge deal, as Devin wasn't really a pure distributor either and we did okay last year.

I think that lineup wins the title, but I don't think we'd ever do it. Dealing Josh and Devin for KG opens the window a little wider for the next two or three years, but it also mortgages our future by getting rid of our only two good young players.

F*** you, David Stern.

This could actually happen
The fact is Minny has to trade KG.  Other fact is that whomever gets him will have to pay huge cap penalties next season. Very few are willing and or able.

Last fact is that there are only about 3 or 4 teams that can make it work financially (Dallas being one of course) and that Josh Howard is the best talent I've seen offered for KG.

As long as those facts remain then I will consider Dallas a front runner for KG.
