Caplan has some good info on the Mavs free agency plans. Dallas has contacted the agents of Devean George, James Posey, P.J. Brown, Mikki Moore, and kind of Gerald Wallace. It sounds like Donnie Nelson knows acquiring Wallace isn't all that likely.

"As far as caliber of player, certainly athleticism has its place with us," said Nelson, the Mavs president of basketball operations.

"From a financial perspective, it's hard to know if it's a fit for us."

The Bobcats have room under the salary cap and have indicated that they want to re-sign Wallace even though they made a draft-day trade for Jason Richardson, who can play the same position.

Wallace also plays the same position as Howard.

"Sign-and-trades are a little harder to do in all likelihood," Nelson said. "A lot of things have to come together to make that happen."

Mike Fisher is really proud of himself for starting the KG to Dallas firestorm. He also still thinks it might happen.

The Mavs summer league team takes on China tonight tomorrow night. Moody Coliseum, 7:00 PM, tickets are $5.00. Anyone going? I can't make it.

donny's sly tougue.
be careful reading too much intent on whether donny sounds like ANY move is unlikely. he's got too much of his old man's shifty 'aw,shucks' sort-of-smokescreen up right now.

I seem to recall his similar dismissal on a radio interview last week about the KG trade. His spin was that you can't trade for Big Ticket and then realize that you don't have a team left. Which is true, but I still don't underestimate them laying down on the altar to get him.

If anyone of involvement is reading this: PLEASE, PLEASE SEND GARNETT TO THE EASTERN CONFERENCE.

I'm having trouble sleeping about this.

Thanks for the heads up on the China / summer league game. If work permits, I'll try to make it over there.

China
I believe the China vs Mavs Summer League game is tomorrow (July 3rd) at 7pm, not today.  At least that is what has been detailed in the DMN for the last week or so.

I'm going
I am going to check it out.  The Mavs summer league roster is bigger than I would have thought.  Hopefully I get to see equal parts active roster players, draft picks, and scrubs, and not a heaping helping of just the scrubs with no chance.  Here's the roster (As reported by Pete Aldrich on the DMN Mavs Blog):

13 - Maurice Ager, G, 6-5
10 - Eddie Basden, G, 6-5
54 - Brandon Bass, F, 6-8
11 - J.J. Barea, G, 6-0
30 - Warren Carter, F, 6-9
7 - DeSagana Diop, C, 7-0
32 - Leonardo Dos Santos, F, 6-11
33 - Nick Fazekas, F, 6-11
45 - Caleb Green, F, 6-8
2 - Jamon Gordon, G, 6-3
21 - Pops Mensah-Bonsu, F, 6-9
20 - Jared Newson, G, 6-5
9 - Renaldas Seibutis, G, 6-5
23 - Reyshawn Terry, F, 6-8
24 - Clay Tucker, G, 6-3

KG to Dallas
I've enjoyed Fisher's coverage of the KG to Dallas possibility, and am excited by the reality of the situation (That KG to Dallas could really happen.)

But today's "Toot my Horn because I broke a trade RUMOR story" article was about as amateur as one would expect from somebody wanting attention.
