DJ Mbenga Waived

DJ Mbenga was waived today.

Warriors backup center DJ Mbenga will be waived before the remaining balance of his contract - roughly $460,000 - becomes guaranteed, the team said Sunday. The salary excuse is a good one, but I think we all know he was waived because Don Nelson discovered DJ was an undercover agent working for the Mavs.

If the injury to Damp lingers......
and Diop stays in whatever funk it is that he's in.....is it worth the roster slot to take another stab at DJ?

Is the knee fully healed?

I wondered this myself
Although I think that Diop's not so much in a funk as in AJ's (extremely) fickle doghouse.  The problem that would present itself is the same problem that got Mbenga waived the first time.  The Mavs organization really likes him for his athleticism, size, and work ethic (even if he's rawer than sushi still).  But there's just not a roster spot for him right now.  They waived him to make room for Juwan Howard and regardless of what people on this blog think of him, JuHo is a better player to have than Mbenga.

Now, if I were running the Mavs, I tell you what I'd do.  I'd trade Ager and a couple mil to somebody for a 2009 2nd round pick, and then resign Mbenga.

Maybe later?
I was only concerned in case Damp was hurt worse than he was....looks like that's not the case...at least now anyway. But what if they sustain an injury to either Diop or Damp?

If nothing else, I'd like to see him develop (even if it's somewhere else) so that we'll remember him for something other than 'tacos'. :)
