Eddie Jones - GONE

hadn't seen anybody else post this yet, which is surprising, because this to me is some major news, but apparently Eddie Jones has (maybe) been traded to Indiana with 2 second rounders for Shawne Williams:

WIN...BIG FREAKIN WIN.

apparently, I need a lot more words, so here's some interesting thought for discussion: if we get Williams, and he's in good shape, does Bass become a 3, or is he traded for a big time SG?

yeah i saw this, too.

i’m not a big fanpost maker, but this was interesting news to me. jones has just been another semi-warm body for us, and to get something for him was good i guess. the only thing that worries me is the 2 draft picks, but considering our penchant for getting projects in the second round, it might not be that big of a deal. i think i’ve given up on wanting a legit sg. i say let wright show what he has.

Who? Indy Cornrows likes the deal - which doesn't bode too well for the Mavs

Well, Eddie wouldn’t have played much anyway and the pick(s) would have been late. Still not great when I remember what grandiose plans fans had posted on ESPN what some combo of Stack, Jones, maybe George and picks reportedly should be worth. And now we get Shawne Williams, wohoo.

Ugh.

I don’t like those second-round picks we gave up.

at the tail end of the 2nd round?

Where are those draft picks going to be?

I’d imagine in a couple of years, in the 40-50 range. That’s still a place where you can get a steal.

well true

but I guess you have to see it from my point of view. I didn’t want Eddie Jones taking up space on this roster; and I consider Shawne Williams to be on a talent base mid-1st round talent. So even removing Eddie, I think I’d trade 2 second rounders for a mid-first rounder.

like the Cowboys

although that may not be the best comparison right now, with all the Pacman stuff going down…I like what the Mavs have been doing to acquire TALENT lately. Note: I didn’t say “sure thing future starters,” just TALENT. And if you doubt Shawne Williams is talented, maybe you should read up on him, both before the draft and since he’s been in the NBA. It’s a classic match of Gerald Green’s talent level and hype and although due to different reasons, the off-court distractions and/or immaturity that has held them back.

Taking on a successful castaway like Bass, if we can get one of Gerald Green or Shawne Williams to play to their capabilities, we will not be hurting in the future. If neither work out, we risked little money and trade assets (please don’t cry about losing 2nd round picks…even if there was value in those picks, I’d have given them up to get rid of Eddie Jones’ spot on this team). And if they both pan out, those two, along with Bass, could all easily be starters in this league.

The only question I have is can we get Shawne into a program to keep him out of trouble, and can we do this same exercise with another team’s young point guard?

This is a GOOD trade...
apparently, I need a lot more words, so here’s some interesting thought for discussion: if we get Williams, and he’s in good shape, does Bass become a 3, or is he traded for a big time SG?

Williams plays on the perimeter, so I’m not sure why this would impact Bass in any way… I guess Shawne can push over and play PF some, but I don’t think that’s a position he’s really suited for, and I definitely don’t think he’s good enough there to make Brandon Bass expendable…

Take that criminal record in Indianapolis and throw it out the window. They’ve been having so many off-court issues up there the last few years, kids like Shawne Williams deserve to get out and get a second chance…

He’s a great TALENT. He’s still a little rough around the edges, but he’s one of those type guys that’ll benefit from playing with Jason Kidd… Never got a chance to really make an impact in Indianapolis once Danny Granger broke out…

I’m a big fan of this trade. Second round picks aren’t hard to recover if Cuban and Donnie really find someone they like later in the draft… Eddie Jones was a spare anyways. It’s nice to see we’re finally making moves to put the right types of players around Dirk (perimeter slashing ATHLETES) and furthering the process of building around Kidd to get out and run on the break…

Still feel like this team is one real piece away from being back in the thick of things… Not sure what it is or where to find him, but we’ll see as the season progresses…
