Lebron interested in... Mavs?
i was a bit surprised to read in an Adrian Wojnarowski column on Yahoo!...Here
'...With the Knicks, there are two teams a source familiar with James’ thinking says intrigue him: The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.'
obviously i'm not taking it too seriously... interesting read though...
why?... i can understand New York or LA... but why Dallas.... Wojnarowski doesn't even believe that Nets are in the running for him.... (not that we are).... but what does Dallas have to offer that other teams don't...

Easy answer...
but what does Dallas have to offer that other teams don’t…
If you’re looking at those three specific teams, and you factor in there’s no possible chance the Lakers can get him under the cap…
Mark Cuban vs. James Dolan… Um… Even with LeBron, does anybody really believe James Dolan is going to do whatever it takes to win a championship? This is a guy who just recently decided it’s better to pay Stephon Marbury to ride the pine and sulk than just pay him to leave town, despite how strongly his coach and GM felt about getting him the hell away from their other players…

Well
do we have the cap space then?
Even with Fin and Bradley’s horrific contracts off the book now and Kidd due to come off in a year, I don’t think we’ll squeeze in under the cap. Dirk’ll probably get another extension somewhere equal to his current pay, would Damp be off the books by then? Terry? Josh?

It's possible
If they trade Damp for an expiring contract or don’t pick up a team option on Josh Howard.

They have $45M in contracts already on the books
For the 2010-2011 season
http://hoopshype.com/salaries/dallas.htm
That includes Dirk’s player option of $21M (no way he’d pass that up), team options on Josh and JJB ($11.8M and $1.8M), and a qualifying offer of $3.4 for Shawne Williams.
The salary cap this season is about $59M, and recently has gone up about $2M-$3M a year.
If it follows that pattern we’d be looking at $63M or so for 2010-2011.
It’s certainly possible to get under like you said. I would think if the Mavs are really serious about making an attempt, there’s no way Kidd will get extended past next season if at all.

Rebuilding...
If this team doesn’t make a deep run in the playoffs this year, it’s time to blow this thing up and rebuild. And does anybody really believe we’ll be able to rebuild this thing in time to be serious contenders again while Dirk can still contribute at a high level? I just don’t see it…
If you don’t show out this year and get back among the league’s elite, it’s time to trade Dirk, Josh, whatever you can for expiring contracts and draft picks, and get this show on the road.

Ditto
It doesn't matter if you win or lose, as long as you come in first.

I'm sure Dirk would take a paycut to bring in Lebron.
N41D already said what I was going to say. We have Mark Cuban that’s why he would come here. Terry for Iverson gets Terry’s long contract off of us.

Me too
Dirk will definitely take a pay cut, and step aside as Alpha Dog, for LeBron. Maybe Kidd could come back (two years?) for something substantially cheaper than his current expirer. Dirk and LeBron in Mavs gear is the wettest of wet dreams.

I read
that the last year of Damp’s contract wasn’t guaranteed if he didn’t meet certain performance criteria, does anyone know about this?

I've read it somewhere else too
Remember reading that Damp’s final year is conditional, like he had to play 2000+ minutes next year (2009-10) or make a couple All-Star teams (which is not happening). Basically, Damp’s an expirer next year, but correct me if I’m wrong.

If anyone else has clarification on this
I would love to know..
I also know that only around 2 million of Stacks’ 09-10 salary is guaranteed.
