Mavs in Simmons NBA Podcast

I'm listening to ESPN's Bill Simmons NBA podcast.  In it, Bill and his buddy House try to pick the over/under of each NBA team.  Unfortunately, the audio craps out right when they start to talk about the Mavs. Later on, Bill suggests a Lamar Odom for Josh Howard swap.  House says Odom isn't all that in the playoffs.  I'm still a Howard fan, so I would be against the trade unless we could somehow get rid of a big contract.  Maybe include Dampier in the trade and you might have something.  What do you guys think?

The only question I would have asked him...

What does Lamar Odom bring to this team that they don’t already have?

It makes no sense. Other than to clear salary cap space, which you don’t really do much of by getting rid of Howard, there isn’t much improvement made from this deal from the Mavs’ perspective.

I'm not sure Odom for Howard

makes sense for either team. What does it fix?

Yeah..

To me Odom is like a homeless man’s Dirk. Josh is pretty much the ultimate compliment to Dirk at Small Forward, as far as playing style goes.

At least, the old (hopefully new) slashing Josh was/is.

cap space

It doesn’t really fix anything except give more cap space next year. Of course the cap space would be better the year after.

If we get Odom

the only positive thing that will come out if the trade will be the fact that we won’t have to deal with lamar torching dirk for 30 points every time we play the lakers.
