Carlisle's coaching style
I just wanted to share this piece from DB.com's Mike Fisher. In the article "Beyond Dallas' Four Horsemen," he explains why some players, like Gerald Green, get some minutes on the floor in the first half but never return for the second half (which is something I've always wondered).
It is an interesting approach and most likely not a new one. Not surprisingly, the four players who are exempt from this treatment are Dirk, Josh, Kidd, and JET, because they "have earned the freedom to play through mistakes, to be part of the decision-making process, and to freely attempt to impose their will on outcomes." I think it is worth noting that being a veteran does not automatically give you this exemption; Dampier is not among this group, neither is Diop.
I have to wonder: if Stackhouse wasn't on the way out and was still the same player that he was a few years ago, would he have the same liberties as Dirk, Josh, Kidd, and JET? How long will it take for the new guys to get a longer leash?
