Mavs a player in the 2010 Free Agent Bonanza?

With all the big names available in 2010 in Free Agency the Mavs seem to be in a good position to possibly make a run at many quality players.

I. Cap Flexibility

As it stands the projected Maverick payroll would be approximately $68,778,609. This figure can be misleading though because there are 2 contracts that can be voided. Dirk and Josh. Dirk has an Early Termination Option and Josh is a Team Option. Having those two off the books could bring our number down to $35,430,05. Now there are some uncertainties also (Shawne Williams, and JJB) but eliminating both of those contracts coud bring our total cap number down to $30,203,600.

II. Players Left Under Contract

Dampier, Jet, and Diop are our only players that would be under contract.  As of right now Damp seems to be entrenched as a Mav based on his contract. However Diop has been linked to numerous teams. After Dec 15 when Diop is eligible to be traded there should be a clearer view of what the Mavs cap figure would look like. Terry would almost have to be included in any trade if we were to upgrade at the SG spot just to make the contracts align. Also there may be a rookie draft pick here or two but their contract would not be big enough to make a major dent in our cap space. I do not know if green and bass would both still be here. Both are FAs after this year and may cost big money and lots of years to resign

III. Course of Action in Free Agency

With many free agents available the Mavericks can be active early or trying to lure one max contract as well another lesser player. According to Carlisle many free agents want to come here and hopefully Cuban will pay them well. After signing the two big time players the Mavericks can then use Bird Rights to resign Dirk and Josh. There is some risk that these guys may leave for a different team but hopefuly Cuban will reward them handsomely for their team loyalty.

IV. 2010 and Beyond

With some new blood in the lineup the Mavs could be a contender for many years down the road. A lineup with

Wade,Redd, Howard, Nowitzki, Damp  with Green Bass and Terry off the bench.

I have seen a lot of other information out there regarding contracts like Damp, I don;t know how much of this is accurate but I think it is close to what the Mavs will have.

Do you blame Wade or the refs for the 06 Finals?

I blame the refs, which is way I don’t have a problem with Wade.

I have witnessed time and time again.

Damp's contract

isn’t fully guaranteed in 2010-2011. If the difference between having the ability to land a top tier FA is his contract, it won’t be picked up.

Damp's contract
Insider has learned the details of Dallas’ seven year, $73.3 million dollar contract with Erick Dampier. His first-year salary is $7.7 million. The last year of his contract, worth more than $13 million, is conditional on Dampier playing in three All-Star games in the first six years of his contract OR playing 2,100 minutes in a minimum of 70 games during the 2009-10 season.

Neither of those will happen

Damp’s minutes,

06-07: 1908 minutes or 25 mpg over 75 games
07-08: 1745 minutes or 24 mpg over 72 games
So far this year: only 21 mpg.

Boshnation

Time to get him back to Dallas. Of course, if we get LeBron, that’d be even better…

Sorry...cancel that...

I prefer getting Bosh to getting Lebron

As great a player

as he is, I just can’t make myself like him. I just don’t like getting players on the Mavs that I don’t like. He would be good for the team, but I would take some time to like him. Bosh on the other hand would be a great player for us, plus I like him. We need scoring center. I think his play matches with Dirk very well. He would take tons of pressure off to allow for Dirk to hit shots.

He is the most gifted player you will ever get the chance to watch.

I don't get this line of thinking

I may hate certain players, but if he’s a truly great player like Lebron — I’m LOVING it if he’s on my team.

by Dirk Diggler on Nov 24, 2008 7:36 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Like I said

I didn’t say I wouldn’t want him on the team, I just said I would prefer Bosh…who is very talented and improves every year. If you notice, I just said it would take time to like HIM…not necessarily his play.

by ETBURyan on Nov 24, 2008 10:49 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

But

you seriously think Bosh would be a better fit than Lebron?

On what basis? Lebron is a superior player to Bosh..I mean it’s not even close really.

by Dirk Diggler on Nov 25, 2008 9:45 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes...I do

He is a better fit. WHY? cause he doesn’t need to be everything. He is much more easily compatible with team ball IMO.

Also, lets look at the stats from last year and this year
Bosh took over 6 fewer attempts last year and 3 fewer this year…his FG% is higher both years.
Bosh has a higher 3Pt% than James but james takes way over 3 a game with a 30% or below accuracy.
James has the edge in FT taken, but loses out in FT% and this year Bosh is taking more FT than previously. James has been consistent the same as last year in number of FTA

Rebounds goes to Bosh (especially this year when he is combined with someone else who can rebound).

Assists and Steals goes with James by a clear margin. Turnovers and PF go to Bosh.

Am I saying Bosh is a better player? More dominant? By no means. I am saying that Bosh fits in with a team play more because he doesn’t need to control the ball.

Also, having Dirk and Bosh…Bosh punishes downlow and Dirk up top. Both rebound well.

All taht said, I think James would be AWESOME while playing for the MAVS…I just think Bosh would fit very well. It is clear that both need a team around them to win. James can win on his own, but go all the way.

by ETBURyan on Nov 25, 2008 10:49 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Lebron makes Cleveland a title contender.

Does anyone think Toronto is a serious title contender? Toronto has much better players than Cleveland, yet Cleveland is obviously better. The difference, Lebron Fucking James. It is not even close as to who would be a better fit. Dirk doesn’t need to control the ball to be productive. He can score 24 points(last night) and not even be talked about in the recap. Lebron almost beat the NBA champions last year in the playoffs, Bosh couldn’t even beat the Magic or even take them to 7 games.

I have witnessed time and time again.

by srdmad on Nov 26, 2008 10:25 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think you are severly

underestimating lebron.

by Dirk Diggler on Nov 26, 2008 12:48 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

it's true

stats can prove anything. On the other hand, I think many people seriously overestimate Lebron. He is great, awesome, and the best of the generation…but just like Jordan, he needs a team. Would the Mavs win with him…probably so. Would they win with Bosh…probably so.

by ETBURyan on Nov 26, 2008 11:07 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Who's playing center then?

I have witnessed time and time again.

by srdmad on Nov 24, 2008 1:12 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not high on Redd

Seems like he’s injury-prone.

by jonthefon on Nov 23, 2008 3:12 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I wouldn't sign him for a long deal either,

but there is no way that we would be able to get Wade, Redd, Howard, Dirk, Bass, Green, Terry, and Dampier on our team. Wade is at least 20 million, Dampier would be 13 million, Terry 10.5 million, Howard almost 12 million. That’s over 55 million for 4 players and I didn’t even get to Redd or Dirk. the salary cap isn’t going to raise to 90 million.

I have witnessed time and time again.

by srdmad on Nov 24, 2008 12:08 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Dampier

will not be under contract after next year. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I think so, too

But I’m still hoping to see this become a reality…

by ptrck on Nov 23, 2008 12:34 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   1 recs

that's just frightening

I think I’d aim for LeBron and hope for Bosh’s return to Dallas plus a PG in either the draft (via trade), free agency or somewhere else.

I’d roll with a 5 of “young promising PG,” “young promising SG,” Josh, Dirk and Bosh with Terry and Damp off the bench for one more year…of course it all depends on who the PG and SG are, but with Bosh in that lineup we are VERY good at 3, 4 and 5, and now have to force teams to think twice about post defense, leaving older Dirk open to pop off 3 or 4 treys a game

93 NBA games

1 game with 10+ rebounds.
11 games with 5+ assist
31 games with 20+ FG attempted.

He should be embarrassed.

I would

like to say that Lebron is a great player, but Barkley is right…He is acting completely classless. Look at the way he is prostituting himself right now…while under contract.

look at what detroit is doing

wen lebron hits da market detroit’s only solid contract will b Prince most likely theyll exersice their option on stukey and afflalo plus rip will most likely b resigned which is a big factor in this lebron frenzy y u may ask well think of this who is the biggest influence for lebron ……..give up? well its his agent who is coinceidently rips agent and to please this agent the pistons will sign rip 2 a pretty nice contract then pistons got alot of shoppin money to pick up some great players in this upcoming draft free agent class lebron being the main target so yea thats what detroit has cap room and young talent
