Mavs Lose, blah, blah, blah...
That was by far the worst defensive game Dallas has played all season. The defense allowed 125 points per 100 possessions, which is just unbelievably awful.
As for the obvious, no comment. This game put me in a horrible mood, and I don't think I'll read any of the recaps in the morning.
Rick Carlisle postgame:
Vince Carter tonight?
"He was real active defensively. He made shots. He had ten rebounds. Harris and Carter are going to play well in this system. It's geared around them, and it should be. They're really really good players. But they had a lot of guys step up and play tonight. I though that was the difference in the game."
It seemed like in the first quarter Devin Harris really set the tempo.
"He played well. He played well, no question. And Carter played well. As a team they had us on our heels from the beginning. When you're giving up 33, 31, 26, and 31 you're not going to beat anybody. Our defense as a whole needed to be a lot better."
If you didn't know better, would you think Devin was trying to prove a point tonight?
"Well, I've watched him play five games. Their last five games. He's playing the same way every night. Tonight the other thing you look at is the three point shooting. Carter hit four. Harris hit five. And other guys stepped up and hit one or two. They were 59% from three before they missed a couple of heaves at the end. You give up fourteen threes you're just not going to win. It's as simple as that. That's where the game was."
What did you sense from Jason Kidd before the game tonight?
"He comes out and battles every night. The same way that Harris does. I thought Kidd played great. I wish the game was closer so he could have played a few more minutes, but it doesn't make any sense to have him in there at the end."
Was the defense just a step slow, or what was the problem?
"It was a step slow. We were poor on coverages. We need to be a lot better, and we all own it. Players, coaches, all of us. We've got a day and a half to get the wheels back on the wagon, and we've got another important game on this trip. We're just going to have to regroup and get better."
When you put JET in to start the second half, was that just to try and spark things?
Yeah, he's been great off the bench, but just looking for a spark to start things off. He's been giving us consistent great play. He played great to start the second half. But again, our inability to establish anything defensively was our undoing.

I have no idea
what “33, 31, 26, and 31” references.

I thought the same ...
I still couldn’t go sleep … I’m mad at this game. No way a team that is supposed to be elite let the other shoot 50% from the floor and 60% from 3pt. No way … The nets entered this game to win for Harris, if they played that way all season, they would be first on the east and champions. And I can’t agree with Carlisle, I saw parts os the last 2 games Harris played, and he didn’t played like that, he came with a spark since the start. I don’t know about you, but that looked a lot like when the Warriors played the mavs on the past, hit everything, all the guys step up, no matter what.

I still feel sick to my stomach
I know we have had some moments of awesomeness this year when the Mavs actually looked like a Good team, but that doesn’t change the fact that we need some changes. Badly.
And I don’t get why the Mavs have to “admit” that the trade was a mistake. What does that do exactly? Personally, I’d rather Donnie/Cuban respond through actually doing things.

Worst part of the game
With about 5:00 left in the first half, it seemed like Rick Carlisle just put the top 5 guys out on the floor and let them do their thing. He didn’t seem to be calling any offensive plays because he wanted to let Kidd run the show..
We cut the lead from 12 down to 4.. but then completely lost control and let VC shit all over us and ended up going into the locker room down 14 or something.
My point is that’s supposed to be our “elite group” with Jet, J-Ho, Damp, Dirk, and Kidd.. and they got completely crushed… We shouldn’t have to depend on a “spark” guy like JJ to bail us out (which he didn’t do last night, by the way). If our top 5 can’t hang with the nets top 5 for 5 whole minutes.. you know it’s time to make some changes..
I’ve been saying all season to my friends that each time the Mavs win this year, it just puts off the inevitable trade longer and longer. Even in our wins, we look terrible at times and have to bank on the other team collapsing in the fourth..
Was Dirk sick last night or something?
On a positive note, I am really happy for Devin Harris and how well he played.
