ESPN: Kidd to the Mavs "Imminent"?

promoted from diaries

According to ESPN.com.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3244102

I really, REALLY hope this doesn't happen. We don't have enough scorers to drop Stackhouse, we lose defense without Harris, and we'll need Diop or Dampier will have to stop Timmeh, Gasol, Shaq, etc. on his own...

Not to mention Kidd is shooting 37% from the field.

This sounds
very unbelievable.

Nothing against Stein, but the idea that Dallas would give up 3 key pieces for Kidd is absurd.

Unbelievably DUMB...
Stein has been swinging for this deal to happen forever now. He has gone on Galloway and said that it needs to happen, written countless articles about it, so its no wonder that he would blow it up to be bigger than what it is.

Just last week, we HAD to have a third team involved, now all the sudden we dont?  Cuban (and the obvious numbers) have said again and again why this doesnt make since.

This would be worse than the phx deal.  DONT DRINK THE SAME KOOL-AID the media is gonna give you about this trade.  They love it because it gives them something BIG to write about.  Just like the SHAQ deal.  This deal sucks sucks sucks... switch out Harris for Terry in this deal, and its an OPTION the mavs can look at... but even that I would wonder about because we lose our two deep threats on the team, even though both can be streaky at times, they are the best we got right now.

his source had to be from the Nets Organization...
Cuban hasn't got fleeced like that EVER, maybe Harris and KVH's contract......or if they add Carter in it, that'd be more like it......Kidd and VC.......that's what I'm hoping for....not this bag of crap...

stein has tight ties to the dallas front office
but he could have totally blown his "source" out of proportion.

Theres no way we could do kidd AND carter... their contracts are WAY to big, and adding carter makes this deal worse for us anyway.  The jim rome show said that armstrong would be included in the deal.  Great.

oh crap no
i hope not. worst. epic. fail. ever.

I'm going to cry if this happens
It's so very obvious how this team performs poorly without Devin and Stack.  Even though it says Stack can re-sign after 30 days, I just can't imagine this team without Devin.

Since we follow SA so much
Lets ask them if they are glad they stayed with their young, supposedly undersized point guard who couldnt shoot as opposed to kidd?

Lets ask LA if they are glad they didnt give up on their young, supposed undersized center last year for kidd.

The more I think about what we are giving up in Harris and the potential he has, the more my stomach turns...

by Toddy on Feb 13, 2008 1:56 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

if this happens...
don't expect some big post from me.  I might just quit.

by Wes Cox on Feb 13, 2008 1:58 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I have to add...
...that Kidd has no J, and Devin's numbers are all up this year, I believe.  He's even added 3-point shooting to his game.

Oh, and I don't want Carter on this team...so overrated, not to mention brittle.

by Marie on Feb 13, 2008 2:00 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I finally
found the strength to read the article.  Stackhouse being bought out by the Nets and resigned by Dallas makes this trade more believable to me.  And I still hate the idea....

by Wes Cox on Feb 13, 2008 2:02 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If one of Stackhouse/Diop is bought out...
This becomes a pretty decent deal for Dallas. I wouldn't imagine the Mavs would make this deal without being sure one of these guys will be bought out and brought right back...

How do you hate the idiot of essentially Harris/Diop/George for Kidd? LOL That's a STEAL for Dallas. Diop has played like crap all but a handful of games this year. Giving Bass his minutes does not bother me one bit. I'd actually rather see Bass playing more.

by N41D on Feb 13, 2008 2:07 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

And you all know how I felt...
About a "big-splash" deal when I thought it would cost all these assets...

If nobody is bought out and brought back, it sucks. If Stackhouse or Diop is bought out and brought back, it's a damn good deal.

by N41D on Feb 13, 2008 2:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Harris
forget bass, forget stack, I know they can at times bring a lot to this team...

Harris is the issue here with us.  If it were terry instead of harris, I can say we wouldnt be (over)reacting the way we are right.  The progression he has made, and the upside he has vs. what kidd may or may not bring with his age and 2 yr big ass contract

by Toddy on Feb 13, 2008 2:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Harris played well for two months...
This team's window was closing. Fast. Harris was still very inconsistent.

I didn't want a big-splash deal either, but if Stackhouse comes back and this turns into Harris/Diop/two picks in the late 20's for Kidd, I do not care. It's a good deal.

by N41D on Feb 13, 2008 3:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Don't forget!
Don't forget the two first-round draft picks we'd be giving up!  Makes the deal all the more tantalizing.

2 first rounders + Devin + Stack + Diop + George for Jason Kidd?  Maybe when he was 25.  But at 35 I'll pass on that deal 100 times out of 100.

This is one of the more absurd trade proposals I've ever heard not involving Herschel Walker.

ESPN.com
is still just saying it's imminent. They seem very confident it's going to happen, but they have done this before...

Just listening to the Galloway show from friday
Avery CLEARLY states "WE ARE NOT TRADING 5 ROTATION PLAYERS"

hmmmm... thats interesting.

No idea
what to believe anymore.

by Wes Cox on Feb 13, 2008 2:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

well
its 4 rotation players so that makes sense

by ab03 on Feb 13, 2008 3:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

what are you talking about
saying this deal is done?

nothing is done yet..

by Turkish41 on Feb 13, 2008 2:14 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Text I JUST GOT from ESPN
"Kidd headed to mavs - Stein:  DAL agreed in principle to acquire G Jason Kidd from NJ for G Devin Harris, 4 other players"

So in principle... maybe thats the same as done, maybe not.  To me its a physical and then it will be done

by Toddy on Feb 13, 2008 2:17 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

what where?
where are you hearing this?

by bluefish on Feb 13, 2008 2:15 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'm only relaying what I got from ESPN
I dont see it up on their site as well, I just got that text from ESPN

by Toddy on Feb 13, 2008 2:18 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well guys
I gotta go back to work, I will monitor from my phone the site here but wont post til tonight.  Just listened to the ESPN from dallas, said that we would also do a separate trade from the kidd deal with NJ for wright, and we would give up a second round pick for him.

Didnt report though that the kidd deal was done.

by Toddy on Feb 13, 2008 2:24 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wes is right.
I think Stein is just telling us porky pies.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Please no
I was wrong when I criticized the Marquise Daniels deal...maybe I'll be wrong about this one today. But for now, I'm just having nightmares about Chris Paul knocking us out of the playoffs every year from 2009-2013.

Re: Your username
Good point, the Jim Jackson incident is further proof that that this trade shouldn't be justified by "locker room intangibles" or other off-the-court attributes Kidd brings to the table (granted he's presumably much more mature now). If we're so concerned about mental toughness, I'd vote for keeping Stackhouse around. What's tougher, beating down Kirk Snyder off the court or beating down...I'll leave that one alone.

Paul
When does Kidd's contract expire? Might the Mavs make a run at Paul once Kidd retires?

by Ben Q Rock on Feb 13, 2008 2:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The view from here
This trade makes Dallas worse. Devin Harris is already better than Jason Kidd, and even if he weren't, trading a young guy who hasn't yet reached his peak for a 35-year-old who shoots under 40% from the field doesn't seem too wise.

Also, isn't Dallas' offense predicated on isolations? I seem to recall Dallas being near the bottom of the league is assist totals. So how exactly does Kidd fit in? Is Avery Johnson changing the offense?

by Ben Q Rock on Feb 13, 2008 2:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I was thinking the same thing about our offense
but you wouldn't be bringing that up if it was Steve Nash coming instead of Kidd.

When I was watching that game against the Nets the other day, I gotta admit I was intrigued by the thought of Kidd having Dirk as a target for those spot-on dishes instead of Josh Boone.

Jersey
I have an old authentic Kidd jersey that is now coming out of retirement.

i'm sick at my stomach
i keep getting images of chris paul, tony parker, allen iverson, etc running around kidd.  But, to be honest i can't wait for kidd to come in and give those great triple doubles.  i mean 10 points a game is awesome, especially with his high fg percentage.  He even goes to the basket so much that he averages 2 free throws a game.  But even better are those 8 rebounds he gives us.  Dallas has struggled rebounding the ball so much over the years that i'm so happy we have a pg that can rebound finally.  I mean he always stays healthy right?  He's surrounded by so much talent that I thought they would rebound in the east to take the title since he is such a great player at age 35.  I'm sure he won't be interested in some crazy contract extension either because that wouldn't be like him.

Yahoo
pretty much saying done deal.

This is really happening...

by Wes Cox on Feb 13, 2008 3:51 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Great
We're going to be a lottery team in a few years, and ironically we won't even have draft picks. We've mortgaged our present and future. Wonderful.

Same old stuff
But with quotes from Stack:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AqiqNuVmOx4tQf43DU4BZfm8vLYF?slug=ap-kiddtrade&prov=ap& ;type=lgns

His agent told him the trade is going to happen, and Stack states that he's not going anywhere and is anticipating a buyout of his contract.
