OK, I'll be the first one to bite:

how the heck did avery decide to sit kidd during the last minute?

this just defies all kind of logic that is remotely reasonable. it goes beyond stupid, it is ridiculous.

i beg for a simple explanation: did kidd hurt himself during the timeout? did he say/do something dispicable during that timeout?

or did avery have a mind fart? or he just let his ego/stubbornness get in the way of the team winning?

just heard avery on the radio that he wanted to "spread out the floor", provide "more spacing" for dirk, so he "put all shooters on the floor" in this particular situation.

WOW. how did avery even come up with a logic like that??????

AVERY=IDIOT
If you're making a trade to bring in Kidd to help close games (Avery's own words), you should DO THAT!!!!

EVERYONE watching the game is befuddled.

Avery's excuse was to space the floor with shooters, but if you don't have a playmaker in there no one will set up the shooters!!!!

It's inexplicable...
It just makes no sense. Avery said in the Kidd press conference that he wanted Jason here to score TDs in the redzone... He wanted Jason here to be a leader down the stretch of games...

Well... ? What happened?

Avery tries to outsmart everyone
but he ends up screwing up big time!!

Same thing with GS: played small against Nellie, changed our 67-win lineup for the Warriors.

HEY AVERY: YOU'RE NOT THAT GOOD, STICK TO WHAT WORKS.

Also...
when Terry got his shot stuffed by Bowen, we had Stackhouse wide open in the corner. I assure you Kidd would have passed out of that drive.

Avery won the game for the Spurs basically by shooting us in the foot in those last few possessions.

FIRE AVERY!
Just kidding. Maybe. There's no one else to hire, unfortunately. He really has not done well lately. I don't want to overreact, but I lose patience when he makes inexplicably stupid decisions. I really hope there isn't a rift already growing between Kidd and Avery.

Cuban
Definitely looked pissed at Avery when Fin was shooting those free throws... I (pray) hope he gets on his ass about it behind closed doors...

Well guys, we can bitch about it all we want, but OTHER than this idiotic move by avery, it was a great game.

Hopefully Kidd and Dirk dont get pissed off at avery and we get a bunch of chemistry issues and the players trying to run the coach outta town, like kidd has been known to do in other towns...

If Avery can get his stuff together, I really like our chances... still early though, lets see how we do in this stretch of 4 games in 5 days... so far we have come up short against the big boys...

True we had the game
and they barely won in a home game over us. I like our chances, and we're still growing as a "new" team after a trade. It went right down to the line and Avery's idiocy. Too bad, we're stuck with the inept coach though.

How about this trade?

Mavs: send Avery Johnson and a first rounder
Spurs: send Gregg Poppovich.

I'd do it
except we probably don't have any first rounders ever again

maybe it was terry's fault?
i totally agree that the kidd trade was useless if you don't play him at the end of the game. but, on the other hand, he had 7 points in the game and his jumper has never looked so bad.

i can see why avery would want 5 good shooters in there for a final possession where the team is down by 2.

why isn't anyone mad at terry for not passing to two clearly open shooters?

why do ya'll think the spurs collapsed on terry like they did anyway?

terry is an asshole. in that case, he wanted to show up bruce more than he wanted to win the game and bruce came out on top.

if terry had made the good basketball play and passed instead of trying to be the man, maybe ya'll woulda won.

but go ahead and fire avery anyway. you already traded your future.

LOL
btw good game.

Anyways, Stackhouse was 3-8, Terry was 2-10, those were the "shooters" Avery put out there. And Kidd may not be a "great" shooter, but he is proven in the clutch and he would have made the correct play. It's not about shooting if you can't even get a play or a shot up!!! Bowen did a great job defending Terry, but Kidd would have passed out to the open players around him.

Avery made  BIG mistake, plain and simple.

I agree that Terry let Bowen get in his head, in fact both Terry and Avery were out of line with the double techs, that let up our lead and gave away all the momentum. It wasn't worth it and it was whiny.

We didnt' trade away our "future" unless you consider Diop and Harris as future franchise players. These so-called "Spurs Killers" weren't here and the game could have gone either way just like before in 06. Hm, go figure.

RE:
maybe i do give harris more respect than i should be cause he burned parker so well. but, since you're asking, yes, i do think harris is a potential franchise player.

my point about avery is that you guys already traded away the one player he couldn't coach. give harris a few years in a system where he can learn to move and pass, i think you have a top-10 point guard.

Even the "Stern" writers agree
From the San-Antonio Express News

Avery Johnson coached for the first time in his career with his No. 6 in the rafters. Maybe that explains why he all but wore the jersey.

Maybe that explains why the former point guard subbed out his Hall of Fame point guard. He took control of the floor just as he always did before here.

But nothing explains this.

In the final seconds, Johnson sat down the one the Mavericks traded their future for, the instinctive winner brought in to make everyone forget past playoff chokes, the 35-year-old who has played in a few last-second moments before.

No. 6 sat down No. 2 in the Dallas program and No. 1 on Mark Cuban's payroll. Jason Kidd.

They know, we know... this series and rivalry is far from over.  We have come too far to let Avery walk this fine line of "respect" for this team just cuz he has a jersey in their gym...
