Shaq to Phoenix or Dallas?!!
The trade winds and media blow-hards continue to do just that.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that Shaquille O'neal's representation says the Miami Heat have contacted them about the possibility of trading him.
UPDATE: Yeah, you knew that already.
Teams mentioned as possible suitors in the article mention Phoenix and Dallas. While the possible/imaginary Dallas deal mentioned gave no specifics, the Phoenix scenario reportedly involves sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Miami.
Dear God, please make the trade deadline be gone already.

Shaquille not worth a starter.

They'll be looking for salary relief.
It's intriguing to think about provided Shaq is even a shadow of his old self. Problem is, he probably isn't. That doesn't mean that I want to see him in a Suns uniform.

George and Diop

I like this
And if we did get him, who would start, erica or shaniqua? And would this prevent bass from getting some valuable PT as well?
If phx got him, their starting 5 would be shaq, hill, amare, bell, and nash... All injury prone... I think deep into the playoffs, they could screw themselves if one of them gets hurt, but if they are all healthy... that could be scary.
I still think we are a mike miller (or another 2/3) and Cassell away (and getting rid of george) from rising above the rest of the west and dont really need to make a huge blockbuster move...

I understand what you mean.
I know he would pay anyone to help them win. Question is, would he be willing to gamble it all now, this season?

ESPN
Does this prompt the mavs now to make a move now for someone? So far the lakers, spurs and now maybe suns have made moves to improve their teams and rise above everyone else... do we fall into this trap now?

this trade shows several things
- suns finally realized their current approach is not the path to the championship. run and gun, even as spectacularly done as suns does, won't get you far in the playoff. Does anyone still question mavs' decision to change direction a couple of years back?
- suns also realize their window of opportunity is now or never. as fantastic as nash has been, he has carried suns as far as they can go, and nash is not getting any younger. This looks a desperate trade to me. suns panicked, which led to me next point...
- is shaq trade really a good one for suns? with all due respect to shaq, he got out-played by erick dampier two years ago (which means shaq was two years younger then). there were several reasons mavs lost to heat in 2005, but a dominant shaq has never been one of them. espn described the trade as "making little basketball or finance sense" to suns. and who can disagree? do you really think this move allow suns to "improve their team and rise above everyone else"?
- spurs may have improved by adding a backup pg. but if they became a formidable force again in playoff, which i believe they will, the reason will start and end with tim duncan, not a backup pg. their move so far is nothing more than marginal. and honestly i don't think they need to do much more, regardless how they seemed to struggle recently.
- which brings me to lakers. they made the most significant improvement. but still, their playoff fate starts and ends with kobe. two years ago, kobe almost single-handedly outed suns, and with gasol, they may be able to beat suns in a playoff series now. but, championship calibre? let's see if this bunch can win one playoff series before we talk about contending for champion.
- finally, if mavs do make a move, it definitely should not be a panic move. and don't break the core, pls. a team that is good enough to beat spurs in playoff should not be discounted so easily.

I agree...
So a match-up with phx today would look like this?
harris vs nashty
jones vs bell
j5 vs hill/Boris MEOW (the french pussy)
Dirk vs amare (yikes)
Erica vs Shaniqua
I think realistically a better line up would be (only if Meow starts though)...
harris vs nash
j5 vs bell (as their best defender, he'll prob be on him anyway, unless hill starts, then I can see hill on j5)
dirk vs diaw (this is assuming he starts, if its hill then forget about it.
Bass vs Amare
damp vs o'neal
Wishful thinking though... knowing avery, he'll have herpes or george on shaq to start against them or something dumb.

i think
how do you like that well thought out analysis?
by zkmavz on Feb 6, 2008 8:48 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
i'm not afraid of the suns anymore
second, marion isnt' there to hound dirk anymore.
go nuts, dirk!

couldnt agree more
Amare? Very foul prone, and I wouldnt mind this.
Doris Meow (the french pussy)? He's had his games against dirk, but he wont be nearly effective as marion.
Hill? The 6'8" forward provides a possible problem in crowding dirk... but we will see.
Bell will have to guard J5, right?
This is were us having then a big and offensively minded 2 guard to mix things up to replace jones will come in handy. Mike miller or CM would be good to mix things up a little with them.
