JET is down
About halfway through the 4th now and Jet just took a vicous hit going for a loose ball.  He had to be helped off the court.  Looks like it was something with his shoulder.  The report just came that it looks like he is ok.  THANK GOODNESS!  To make things worse he got called for a fall on the play.

I have zero confidence right now
They're laying off of Kidd now, meaning he's shooting, meaning we're f****d.

Plus Kobe is Kobe.

Bleck.

Need to adjust
The really good: We chased the Lakers from using the triangle offense and focusing on isolations.

The bad: Kobe is really taking advantage of it.

I still like our chances here, though. I hope this is a good time out by Avery to get these things straight.

avery
take kidd out ;)

by ab03 @ Mavs Moneyball on Mar 2, 2008 5:09 PM CST reply actions

the shot
is it going to be dirk iso again?

i doubt phil lets him do that.

if that's the case, make sure kidd has it in his hands.  i let him take the shot if it comes to it

F me
How can you let Kobe get that rebound???

stackhouse
how do you get blocked on that shot.  pump fake, do something!  he also had bass open underneath.  terrible play

DIIIIIIIIIIIRK!!!
Holy shit. Yah. DIRK.

by thedirkatron on Mar 2, 2008 5:15 PM CST reply actions

well that was incerdibly dumb on the lakers
why the f wouldn't you foul?  if that really is on phil jackson and I'm lakers media, I do not let that go.  worse than not putting kidd in at SA

+1

If you're the Lakers
why not just hack Kidd when he gets that inbound bass and holds it for a second or two?

He's a terrible shooter, and we're down three.

Makes no sense at all.

I'll take it though.

DIIIIIIIIIIIIRK!!!

btw
i like the fact that they actually drew up a 3 point play for dirk.  seems like most of the time, they draw that end of the game play up for stack or terry.

by ab03 @ Mavs Moneyball on Mar 2, 2008 5:19 PM CST reply actions

This game is over
we're getting pwnd by Kobe, Kidd just took a shot, they're letting Kobe travel and basically do whatever he wants, plus we just brought Howard back in the game. All horrible signs.

take a quick shot
don't take a three

by ab03 @ Mavs Moneyball on Mar 2, 2008 5:33 PM CST reply actions

now they gotta take a three
give it to dirk again.

these losses
are starting to pile up.  this was a very winnable game and htey just seem to fall apart when it counts.

ugly miss at the FT line by kidd.  howard still looks like crap.  it'd be nice to see a good team for once.  don't even look good against the bad teams.

by ab03 @ Mavs Moneyball on Mar 2, 2008 5:39 PM CST reply actions

I wouldn't say they fell apart
Kobe was unstoppable at the end of the game. I will agree they could've played a little better. All & all a good game

Nice Stats guys
Stack 2 for 12, 4 points, one assist.

George 0 for 5 with 2 boards

Howard 4 for 15, 7 boards, 4 turnovers and generally shitty shot selection.

Thanks for helping the team guys

by postman35 on Mar 2, 2008 5:45 PM CST reply actions

stacks biggest mistake
was passing up a freaking wide open layup and giving the ball to jho for a 3....

one, dont pass up a damn gimme... and two... dont give the ball to howard... ugh

by zkmavz on Mar 2, 2008 5:50 PM CST up reply actions

son of a bitch
i am so sick of losing like this...

i swear if jkidd is on any other team he makes that FT... but since hes a mav now... hes got the 4th quarter free throw jitters... damnit

by zkmavz on Mar 2, 2008 5:49 PM CST reply actions

Let's not freak out here
We lost, yes, but to the best team in the NBA. On their court. In overtime. Sooner or later, Josh will stop playing like a scrub. Still, with Harris ripping it up in NJ, I am a little irritated.

by Dirkanoid on Mar 2, 2008 6:24 PM CST reply actions

Not a bad loss as losses go
We did some very good things this game. Our defense was extremely strong until Phil threw up his hands and just told Kobe to take over. Kobe was amazing. Having Dampier foul out just killed us with Kobe penetrating.

Our ball movement was really good, too. We took a lot of jumpers, but they were open ones for the most part.

I'm convinced Josh is coming back from a more serious injury than we were led to believe. I just can't think of any other reason he's playing this poorly.

Perhaps the best news is that Dirk put a string of bad quarters behind him when it mattered.

This could easily been a preview of the western finals.

by Jakedfw on Mar 2, 2008 7:14 PM CST reply actions

re. Harris
Harris is a great NBA guard. I knew he would do great in NJ. I don't think many people really expected him to flop.

But Kidd is a completely different type of guard, so comparing the two based on stats is not really appropriate. Kidd is doing fine here, and I've come around 180 degrees on him.

He is definitely helping us on defense, and he is giving us some nice new looks on offense. That's really all we need him to do.

by Jakedfw on Mar 2, 2008 7:16 PM CST reply actions

this is a loss that i felt better than some wins
now, before the playoff, i hope mavs solve these two issues:

  1. get josh going with kidd. he hasn't had a good game since kidd came. but i believe he'll come along fine. just hope it'll be sooner rather than later.

  2. a more serious issue: find a way to maintain a reasonable offense when kidd sits. george as point forward sucks, and jjb doesn't seem like a reliable solution. tyrone lue? anyway, mavs have to get this taken care of before playoff.

i am confident with this team.

by bigcat on Mar 2, 2008 7:35 PM CST reply actions

Pretty much totally agree
I would add a third point, which is to get Magloire some serious burn. Just like we need playmaking help when Kidd is out, we need interior defense help when Dampier is out.

I should also note that having Terry run isolations is perfectly fine as a second option against a lot of teams. Unfortunately, LA isn't one of them.
