Dirk's MRI Results Are In - No Tears!

Art Gracia is reporting that the MRI this morning showed Dirk sprained his knee and ankle.

Dirk Nowitzki has a moderate left high ankle and mild left knee sprain, MRI tests confirmed. No timetable has been set for the return of the reigning MVP.

Nothing is torn which was obviously everyones biggest fear, so I guess this is good news.

Dirk always recovers from these ankle sprains rather quickly, but the sprained knee and the fact that this is a high ankle sprain could make this one a little more complicated.

My uneducated guess is that Mark Cuban's initial two week diagnosis will be a pretty good one.

Two weeks would see Dirk miss seven of the remaining 12 games.

Dirk's injury
With this being his first ankle sprain, and the addition of a knee sprain, I really think he's done for the regular season.

High ankle
That should say "his first high ankle sprain".

Inshallah
God willing, Dirk will be back in time to make the playoffs so we can have a chance to take you out then.

If he can contribute in two weeks....
I'd be shocked.

A little primer on the injury here.

Judging from the reports of the MRI revealing no tears, it sounds like the stable variety. Which is good that it won't require surgery, but is unlikely to be healed enough in that amount of time. Those ligaments are very slow to heal and generally have the same treatment as a break - put it in a cast and wait six weeks.

It's conceivable that he could be on the court in a couple weeks, but we can't expect anything near 100%, even if he's sleeping in TO's hyperbaric chamber.

I suppose the "benefit" would be that he would most likely re-injure the ankle trying to play and would have to sit out summer ball this year.
