Tyronn Lue to join mavs?

from http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/110458:

"Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Sekou Smith reports in his blog that Tyronn Lue told him he's headed to Dallas to play behind Jason Kidd and won't be joining the Suns, despite taking recruitment phone calls from friends such as Shaquille O'Neal and Grant Hill."

Here's a link to the actual blog entry from Sekou Smith that the East Valley Tribune cribs from.

'Bout a quarter down the page, Smith writes:

Had a post-game phone conversation with Tyronn Lue and he says it's official, he's signing with the Dallas Mavericks. Lue was waived Friday by Sacramento and had his choice of teams (Dallas, Phoenix, Denver, Charlotte, etc.) in need of a veteran backup point guard to help them through the end of the season and the playoffs. He fielded calls from good friends in Phoenix (Shaq, Grant Hill, etc.) but said he opted for the opportunity in Dallas because of the role he'll play backing up a future Hall of Famer in Jason Kidd.

Interesting pickup. He's not bringing monster production, but he's been in a handful of playoff games. Depth certainly doesn't hurt late in the season. Let's just see if Avery actually lets the guy play at all.

thanks alot
another positive side-effect by having kidd on your team: attract free agents. he seems to have more appeal than shaq and grant hill.

Kidd a FA magnet.
I suppose, but would he have not been backing up a future HOF PG in Phoenix?

I think that the biggest attraction to any team for a veteran is if the chance to get a ring. It almost seems that the West might have 5 or 6 options at this point. I'm just curious as to how much actual PT Lue will see here.

What happens to JJB now?

well
Have you seen JJ play the last couple of games? I hate to say it but he's just too small. Can't really guard anybody (cept for if we meet Charlotte and Boykins in the finals).

Had to have somebody
Barrea can't play. Maybe he'll be a viable player if he develops a killer 3 point shot a la Nash. As of now he's a liability on both ends of the court. Rather have Cassell, but Lue is a big upgrade over JJ.

Thank goodness
I've been concerned that this team is too young.  We need more guys over 30 on the roster.

LOL
C'mon Adam. Backup PG for a quarter of a season? Maybe next year, if he's good.

That really a problem?

It's a solid signing, nothing to get real excited about, but he's a lot better backup PG than Jet or JJ.

If he's good??
I wouldn't call him the next coming, but apparently he's better than ok, because the Suns tried REALLY hard to acquire him.  They even had Shaq & G Hill calling him trying to persuade him to come there.  If he's shooting 40% or more from the 3-pt line, hell yes the Mavs need him...

Adam...
He is 44 percent from 3's.

So you want to go sign some young guy even if he is bad?  Lue is a solid backup.

I can see your still pissed at the Kidd trade.
