Is Mavsmoneyball dying?

I know the team sucks right now...but I'm just wondering where the posts have gone?

One-line diaries are prohibited on Mavs Moneyball. Give your diary a bit more thought, then give it another shot. If you have nothing to add to your proposed diary, then it probably belongs as a comment under another appropriate thread.

The minimum is 300 characters.

Yah
Wes likes to randomly go days and sometimes weeks without posting.

Because of this the site never build up any momentum and ends up being so dead.

It's a shame, cause I'd love a place to discuss the Mavs tantamount to what the Rangers have at Lonestarball.

But it is what it is.

we should get accounts at dallasbasketball
they have a ton of posts and a huge forum that gets alot of traffic.

What are you looking for?
A game thread from 5 days ago?

If my opinion matters...
http://www.mavsmoneyball.com/comments/2008/1/3/123441/8511/14#14

If you don't see what you like here, post it yourself in the diary. Search the internet and post some news or something you think is relevant.

Just because a forum has a lot of traffic doesn't mean that you're going to get some quality information about the Mavs or NBA. Generally, more forum traffic just means you have to wade through a bunch of crap to read something insightful.

That's one of the aspects of a online community - everyone can contribute by adding to the discussion. If you don't like it, I'm sure Wes will give you your money back.

I don't think it's unreasonable
to want a site that claims to be about a certain subject to, you know, post on that subject. Btw, I love the condescending tone -- really makes me feel a part of this "community"

by DirkDiggler on Mar 7, 2008 12:14 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm not trying to sound condescending.
No hard feelings, just my natural charm. :) And for the record, I don't have any more affiliation with Mavs Moneyball than you do.

And, no, it's not unreasonable to expect daily posts, since that's the norm. I'm just suggesting that this site's not exactly like all the others that see 10 posts a day on the front page from a dozen different contributors, and I'm okay with that. It's sort of 'quality over quantity'.

Wes and Jake do a pretty good job, in my opinion, of filtering through the noise and providing some good insight on a project that's not an occupation for either guy. There's no need to go and bust chops because there's not new text on the front page every couple days.

Regarding the other SBNation blogs, I personally don't see the value in blog posts where every third post is 'not too much out there today...' but I suppose that's just a personal preference.

by DitchThePlaybook on Mar 7, 2008 12:35 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree
I don't see the value in dozens of contributers with crap all over the place. But I do see value in updating a site more than once every 5 days. I could start a game thread in the diaries and it'd get like 10 comments all of which say "JHO STOP SHOOTING JUMPERS )@*#$)#*%)(#$%*)(#$" Granted, that's about all there is to say about the Mavs at the moment....I just find it kinda annoying that there isn't much action at all on here.

by DirkDiggler on Mar 7, 2008 7:39 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That's very dumb
And the whole, "Wes will give you your money back" is even dumber.

The fact of the matter is that if the blogger doesn't blog, the other parts of the site decay.

I just... your logic is so stupid I'm having a hard time typing a reasoned response.

It's like the time my college roommate tried arguing that Michael Jordan was a better player when he came back with the Wizards, it was just that league had gotten so much better. I couldn't even respond... I just sat there saying, "You don't really believe that. You can't really believe that. That's so stupid."

"Oh yah, then prove me wrong."

But I couldn't. What he said was so stupid I could only mutter, "There's no way you really just said that."

true
its also like making an argument that wade is a good player, and isnt on track to be the next penny hardaway...

by Toddy on Mar 7, 2008 8:23 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i've never looked at it like that....
if the small number of people who do post on this site, do it consistently and everybody gets to know each other better because of it, i guess it could become a family type atmosphere....

Ladies and Gents
I'm going to propose something shocking. If you want to see a game thread discussing a game, why not just write a diary? You can do that. Hell, it happens on blogabull all the time.

The Main Page poster doesn't have to be the only person generating content. (And for those who aren't aware I post on StR.)

That being said I do enjoy the content on this site as it's generally insightful. Content just doesn't come from one person I might add.

Dirk bonked in 07. Will he in 08?

That's true
But there is some quality stuff on GSoM too. Depends on your viewpoint. (I'm in agreement that there are alot of childish Dubs fans though. Lord can we ever agree on that.)

I think
That quite a bit of it is the fact the Mavericks basketball is dying.  This isn't a team that's losing games while we talk about the draft, or losing games but we hope can sneak in as an 8 seed...  This is a team that ought to be contending for a championship that fucking sucks at the moment.  It's really hard, as a fan, to even want to talk about it.  I'd rather watch them self destruct in peace...

After the last week or so of basketball, I've gone from being an AJ defender, to solidly in the Fire Avery camp.  He has no fucking clue what he's doing.  Guys responded to him simply because he wasn't Nellie.  Now they've completely tuned him out, and with damn good reason.

I want Del Harris coaching this team.

by BrodyV on Mar 7, 2008 4:50 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I've secretely hoped....
...Del would be back on the bench by now.

Dell Harris???????????????
Now you had me until I read your last sentence.  DELL HARRIS???  Are you fucking kidding me!!!!!?????

dallasmavs.com
The best looking and most informed Mavs board on the net.

Come check it out.

dallas-mavs.com
I suck, can't even get the url right.

by jthig32 on Mar 7, 2008 4:52 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah I've lurked there before
that's a good site with lots of discussion. I like Dallasbasketball.com because of their frequent articles, and they have good analysis. Their board seems to be a big click already and I'm too late for the party.

dallasbasketball.com
I just can't handle the way the board looks, more than anything.

I do read the articles that Fish and David Lord put up on the front page though.

dallasmavs.com?
you trying to sell me a jersey? :)

I'll check it out.

Embarrassed to say it but
pretty much out of nowhere my wife told me Tuesday she's moving out.

I'm not taking it to well, didn't go work all week, and left my place to say at a friends.

The Houston game didn't help.

by Wes Cox on Mar 8, 2008 2:56 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So sorry Wes
Get yourself right, worry about this shit later.

Hopefully the Mavs can provide a beating on NJ as a start.

by BrodyV on Mar 8, 2008 3:03 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah man, sorry
I wasn't trying to call you out, and that stuff is more important anyway.

by DirkDiggler on Mar 8, 2008 8:20 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sorry to hear it Wes..
Stuff like that is hard, we appreciate ya and hope things start to look up.

by bradybob on Mar 8, 2008 8:36 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

also
sorry to hear that man... hope things work out for the better.

It wouldn't hurt to have co-bloggers
Just to compare it to lone star ball again. When Adam is sick or on vacation, zywica steps in.

If brodyv keeps posting that would be great.

by Rigaudeau on Mar 9, 2008 3:25 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'll be around some
Fortunately my crazy busy week has just passed.  We'll see how well I can keep up when the playoffs and studying for the Texas bar start competing for my attention...
