i am watching the suns-spurs game

i don’t know about you, but i keep wondering:

if it is avery standing on the sideline, will spur still be able to tie the game at the end of regular AND 1st OT?

anyway, i hope that series goes to 7, with double OT each game…

by bigcat1 on Apr 19, 2008 5:16 PM CDT   1 recs

That's been a crazy game

I can’t believe Duncan hit the 3 to tie it in the first OT. I missed all of the second half of regulation, so I don’t know how the Spurs made their comeback.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 5:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

agree agree

7 games.. double OT in all of em…. hell of a game btw

by zkmavz on Apr 19, 2008 5:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

My god

Since we have to face the winner of this series (since we are going to win. we are.) Can all of the games be 2 OT games? I love the idea of a 7 game series where either Nash or Parker has played 50+ minutes a game.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 5:32 PM CDT   0 recs

and according to the tv announcer

at the end ot the 2nd OT, after nash tied it up with that amazing corner 3, spurs have a timeout, but pop did not use it, because that way, suns wouldn’t have a chance to put shaq back in, and ginobili thus could go all the way inside for the winning shot.

briliant coaching.

again, i can’t help wondering what would avery do in similar situation, and my guess is that avery’s team would not have gone to the 1st OT at all…

enough of the ranting. now go mavs!

by bigcat1 on Apr 19, 2008 5:40 PM CDT   0 recs

I thought

That was a brilliant move by Pop as well…it was also nice to see someone driving it to the basket and being fully aware of the lack of big man on the other end.

Yay, we get Hubie

I like his commentary.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:07 PM CDT   0 recs

You know me

I’m an unabashed Hubie lover.

Also- Dirk the only Mav attacking the basket so far.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:15 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Josh

I think he’s only taken one shot so far. I wish he’d get back to attacking the basket again, like the old days.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yup

and it was an 18 footer from the elbow.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Anyone know

why NO keeps booing Kidd?

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 6:20 PM CDT   0 recs

Because he's one of the stars of the opposing team?

Other than that, I’m really not sure…it’s not like they have beef.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

I was wondering if there was some bitterness left over from a Nets/Hornets game or something. I wouldn’t think they’d just randomly boo him, but who knows?

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 6:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

There is a little beef

Between Kidd and Byron Scott (Kidd was instrumental in his ouster in NJ) but it’s not like he did anything against this fan base. Hell, after the job Scott’s done the last two seasons, they ought to be cheering Kidd.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

There's Kidd again

With a toe on the line.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:30 PM CDT   0 recs

That last shot

was a little to Baron Davis-esque for comfort.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Damn

What a shot by Paul.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Good quarter

(minus the last shot)

It remains to be seen if the shooting was because of defense or just the Hornets coming out flat. But if the Mavs can defend and then limit the offensive boards, they’ll win this running away.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:40 PM CDT   0 recs

I'm always uneasy

With Juwan Howard on the floor.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:41 PM CDT   0 recs

Freaking Eddie Jones!

Stupid turnover, just taking the ball across halfcourt.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:42 PM CDT   0 recs

What the hell

is this lineup about? Was JJB not availible tonight?

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:42 PM CDT   0 recs

I don't like our bench so much

Out of the guys on the floor, there’s really no one there to move the ball around and no true offense other than Terry and Josh…not sure the other guys can truly create their own shots.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:45 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Josh

Dribbles the ball way too much lately.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:46 PM CDT   0 recs

Can we get

more than 2 starters out there on the floor?

kthanxbai

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:48 PM CDT   0 recs

the bench

it would be nice if they’d stagger Kidd/Dirk’s resting time. This lineup would be a lot better with Kidd out there creating shots for Bass, etc.

I wouldn’t be particularly heart broken if Juwan Howard never took off his warmups again.

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 6:49 PM CDT   0 recs

Although...

Kidd mirroring Paul is probably what Avery’s going for. I’m cool with that, just don’t put Eddie Jones and Juwan Howard on the court simultaneously.

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 6:50 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Surely not

That would be a critical level of suck, and the Earth hasn’t collapsed in on itself…

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yea

I’d be much more comfortable putting Damp out there and moving Bass down to PF, then telling JuHo to go get more towels.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The New Orleans bench

Has some great energy. They’ve gotten a bunch of offensive boards and they scramble and hustle for loose balls.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 6:54 PM CDT   0 recs

Wells

has been going after Dirk pretty aggressively. Someone needs to get chippy with him. I nominate JuHo.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 6:57 PM CDT   0 recs

Haha

JuHo the enforcer.

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 6:57 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It wasn't pretty

But that’s the score that we were looking for…

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 7:12 PM CDT   0 recs

Hope this isn't the start

Of a typical third quarter collapse.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 7:37 PM CDT   0 recs

Where is Damp?

Is Avery saving him for something? He’s not in foul trouble, is he? I thought he only had three.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:14 PM CDT   0 recs

I think he has 4

he picked up one a bit ago when he was guarding paul 40 feet from the basket for some reason

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 8:16 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Too many jumpshots now

What happened to Dirk’s aggression that was on display in the first three quarters?

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:15 PM CDT   0 recs

What is going on???

We looked so good….and now we look like how we did against GS last year…

by smt83 on Apr 19, 2008 8:15 PM CDT   0 recs

Holy crap

Josh just dribbles and dribbles!

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:17 PM CDT   0 recs

you've gotta swing that to Terry

after the Dirk double, the open look is almost always 2 passes away

2 points!!!!

in the 4th quarter so far!!!! WTF!!!!

by smt83 on Apr 19, 2008 8:17 PM CDT   0 recs

pathetic

absolutely pathetic…no other words can describe this right now

by smt83 on Apr 19, 2008 8:18 PM CDT   0 recs

This game has completely turned around

It’s like a different Mavs team out there.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:18 PM CDT   0 recs

1 for 8 shooting

great line for stack so far tonight….

by smt83 on Apr 19, 2008 8:19 PM CDT   0 recs

I don't understand

The Mavericks have a huge advantage from the free throw line. So…why not add to that total? Why stop being aggressive and drawing fouls? Why turn away free, easy points?

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:20 PM CDT   0 recs

Because they like to drive us crazy….

by smt83 on Apr 19, 2008 8:21 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm obviously not a player

So I have no idea what their mindset is, but if your shot is not falling, wouldn’t drawing fouls and getting to the line be somewhat of a common sense thought? I mean, do they need to be reminded of something like this? In the heat of a game, can something like that be forgotten?

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:24 PM CDT to parent up   1 recs

Yup

I’m going to get linux running on this computer. Bye folks.

by BrodyV on Apr 19, 2008 8:21 PM CDT   0 recs

I’m sure you won’t miss much

by BlueBooYay on Apr 19, 2008 8:43 PM CDT   0 recs

Amended strategy for Game 2

To Avery’s great shock, New Orleans didn’t panic when Juwan, Devean and Eddie Jones came onto the floor earlier…even though they are veterans with a lot of experience. Let’s shorten our bench on Tuesday.

by toni braxton on Apr 19, 2008 8:43 PM CDT   2 recs

Shooting

obviously needs improvement, but there’s no way the entire team goes cold like that again. A bigger concern is keeping Tyson Chandler off the offensive glass. He completely took over in the second half.

by MeanMr.Mustard on Apr 19, 2008 8:46 PM CDT   1 recs

What bugs me

Is how they resort to jump shots when they panic and the other team makes a run. I understand the Hornets turned up their defense, but the Mavericks stopped attacking and didn’t add too much to their free throw total from the first half.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 8:50 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Gotta keep runnin' your plays

Controlling the Game is the key.

honkaplayboys.com

by BlueBooYay on Apr 19, 2008 9:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I can't believe

Avery is still going to be the coach by the time game 2 rolls around.

I’ve never seen anyone get ownershipped that hard in meaningful game.

Well, at least not since the last time Avery coached a playoff game.

He’s the worst coach in the history of sports. He needs to be fucking deported.

Avery's substitutions bug me

Maybe that’s not entirely his fault, given the players on the bench. But he sometimes sits Damp/Kidd/Dirk at the worst possible moments and doesn’t quite know how to stop the momentum if the other team gets it going. I also hate it when he contributes to the momentum by getting a technical foul (like in that game vs. the Spurs when Dirk got injured). And the third quarter collapses…perhaps he’s partly to blame for those and not making adjustments.

by Marie on Apr 19, 2008 9:27 PM CDT to parent up   1 recs

dude

kill me… that was awful… i cant believe juwan howard actually got in the game… and holy shit… did josh howard forget how to dribble… what a terrible night… seriously.. i cant blame Jet cuz where the fuck was he?! he was never on the floor.. instead we had eddie jones and devean george out there…. it was awful… it was embarrassing… if we lose game 2 mavs moneyball better prepare for a f bomb fest by me.. son of a bitch!

by zkmavz on Apr 20, 2008 12:30 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Terry

2-5 from behind the line - but MAN - did he miss some WIDE OPEN 3’s that Kidd served up for him in the 2nd half. I distinctly remember two that could have stopped the bleeding and controlled momentum. That has to be frustrating for Kidd—watching his dimes get blown.

If that dude isn’t hitting wide open 3’s, he has ZERO value.

Previous years

2005 Mav’s loose game 1 to Houston and they win that series. Same year they loose game 1 to Phoenix and they win game 2. 2006 the Mav’s loose game 1 to the Spurs and they win game 2. Same season they loose game 1 to Phoenix and they win game 2. 2007 we loose game 1 to Golden State and we win game 2. Now even though we didn’t win all of these series, the point I am making is that the Mavericks recover from loosing game 1 all the time to either win game 2 or the series. (We won all other game 1’s during this time frame).

JJ Barea

ya know it baffles me, when they sent JJ to the D league he did very well with a couple games 40 + points. i like JJ and cant figure why avery dont play him ? in the games he has played he DID change the tempo and made some great shots. sure hes only a 1yr player, but still he has knack and fire to play. why isnt he playing instead of JuHo and george, actually anyone that cant get it together ?? they need someone quick and good against paul and he isnt even on the line up, dont figure to me ??

by dgatorr on Apr 21, 2008 1:17 AM CDT   0 recs
