Ugh
Call me a masochist, but I’m both planning on watching this game, and finishing my paper.
Anyone want to proofread a 25+ page paper on terrorism finance regulation in the U.S. and India?
It was interesting
About six weeks ago… Since then it’s mostly been a grind. I know more about Title III of the USA PATRIOT Act than I ever wanted to (although it probably is the least objectionable part of the Patriot Act by far).
I’m hoping that a win tonight can provide me some motivation to wrap up my conclusions and fix my bluebooking. I hate citations. There’s a reason that I didn’t want to be on a law journal.
Antonie Wright active
there is no absolutely no justification whatsoever for JuHo to get a single second of playing time.
Somebody other than Dirk has to step up...
Whether it’s Howard, Terry, Stackhouse, or Kidd… Somebody has to step up and keep the Hornets honest on the defensive end… If nobody is hitting shots, they’ll just start swarming Dirk like they did in the second half Saturday and we’ll have no chance…
Oh, and it’d be nice to see Dampier, Bass, or Stackhouse put Paul or West on their back the first time they get to the rim… Take a hard foul, for God’s sake. Nobody else in the league seems to mind doing so this time of year…
Chuck
calls a monster game for JHo. Please god, let that be so.
Dunleavy
Showing exactly why he’s no longer coaching-
Howard shooting 18 foot jumpers when there is a lane to drive is NOT “being aggressive.”
Memo to Avery Johnson
The trap is not working. You have tried it. Repeatedly. It has not worked, not one single time.
EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU TRY IT DAVID WEST HAS AN OPEN SHOT. IT HAS NOT CREATED A SINGLE TURN OVER. STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT.
You know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Paul has like 7 assists already...
It’s time to come out of the trap, Avery… He’s clueless…
I think its now fair to say
that we should start planning ahead for the off-season…
Still the jumpers… still cant stop the pick and roll, still cant get anyone else to step up and defend
1st quarter
and they get 39 points…
Let me repeat that… 39 points. All this talk about how we were supposed to come out and respond to Paul and thats what we give them.
I know I’m on the ledge, but I cant help but feel a sense of a loss of hope not only within myself with this team, but MY TEAM as well.
This NO team
has the same chip on their shoulder that GS did last year… it it looks like we know they do and are intimidated by it
Holy S...
Everyone was walking around…what the F…lazy lazy lazy lazy
NO hit their last three 3 pt'rs
Their shots are fallin’ now. It should even out a lil’
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
Is it just me
Or does it seem like the team isn’t as fired up as they should be? They can’t let the crowd get to them…look what happened to Washington last night.
I was just saying the same thing...
They are just going through the motions…there is no urgency…nothing…its just weird
You know what?
These last two games have absolutely convinced me of something that I was thinking all season- The people who say that Dirk is soft and that if only he had more leadership this team would be a winner have it completely backwards.
Dirk is the only thing that is dragging this team up toward respectability. He’s a superstar surrounded by an absolutely putrid supporting cast- and Josh Howard has been leading the charge of putridity this year. Replace Dirk with an “average” power forward (Say, Udonis Haslem or Emeka Okafor) and this team would struggle to win 30 games.
Relating to T-Mc ?

yep
the only knock on dirk is is consistency in making those around him BETTER… he definitely performs at a superstar level and leads by example though, and cant be called for being soft after his comeback and level of play since then this year
My momma always said
That you can’t polish a turd. He does make those around him better- but lately they haven’t been making anything of it.
To be honest...
Yes. And you do it for nothing but draft picks to get some flexibility and restock all the pics we’ve given away.
that kinda throws away
what dirk is doing for us now then… right? And the kidd trade is down the drain, cuz we are rebuilding, so we gotta move him on out then right?
I think trading josh for someone who can come in a do something for us RIGHT NOW, would be nice…
Also I think revisiting the JET for Maggette trade again would be nice…
I was against the Kidd trade
But I don’t really mind having him around, not if it’ll get Dirk easier shots.
Yeah but...
I’d argue his shots havent come any easier since then… all the trade did IMO is energize Dirk to a higher level…
But we still run the same offense we did before the kidd trade. Dont confuse Dirks play since the trade with that being because he is getting easier shots… Dirk just wants it more than he did pre-kidd trade
That's a great point
Maybe Dirk was just looking for some kind of change, like I’m sure we all are right now. If the management makes some positive off season moves, maybe that will energize him even more.
So are you pro-Harris, then?
I just hate seeing
a caliber player in Dirk playing for us right now and we not being able to capitalize on it while he is in his prime…
Because
We’re doing, what, exactly, to capitalize on his level of play at the moment? Sure, we could continue to ride this scenario out for the next 5-6 years and get into the playoffs every year, only to lose in round 1. I’d rather blow it up next year, learn what w’ere doing the year after that, and start competing again in 2011.
Im starting to actually think like that...
but I also thought that when Manu hit the 3 in game 7 a few years ago also… I was screaming for a KG for Dirk trade….
Hopefully he proves me/us wrong again….
foul calls
9 vs 3 in favor of NO… mostly because they attack the rim… but stack did that and didnt get a call on a few of those, so I can see why he thinks “whats the point?”
I just now noticed
That we have this weird lineup on the floor…where is the offense going to come from?
I thought it went off the rim?
Need to watch closer & type less

I love stack
but he looks old and rusty coming off the injury. I don’t think this is the time to be giving him a lot of burn.
it'd be nice though...
if the REAL stack could come out of this funk…
Thats the thing, we know what he is capable of… its just a matter of do we have the patience to let him work his way back into it…
Its amazing...
All that crazy Serb does is shoot 3’s…and we decide to let him hang around sitting wide open on the 3 point line
The Mavericks are more willing
to give up contested layups than any other team in the playoffs…
It’s pathetic how afraid this team is to commit a hard foul…
Dirk got suspended for a hard foul
Maybe that’s why…? Though actually, the team as a whole has been hesitant to do that even before the AK incident.
I'd say Damp
does a decent job of throwing some hard fouls when he wants… I remember the 3 laker game we played in this year he was punishing Kobe when he game down the lane with hard fouls…
But every team has had suspensions for that reason...
At some point in this series, someone is going to have to send a message by giving up a hard foul.
Or we’ll be watching Paul shoot floaters in the paint and Tyson Chandler cram it down our throats for 4 games and we’ll be going home.
7-11 from the free throw line
At least we’re getting to the line, but we can’t miss these easy ones…I’m surprised Dirk has missed a couple already.
I don't understand...
Kidd goes for a lay up when he should pass…and passes when he should shoot…
dang
when NO spreads the floor like that… our age really shows in being able to chase down those shooters.
Two Scores in a row...
...at the rim. Damp & Dirk !!
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
The Ric Flair thing
Is getting annoying. What is the significance of that again? I know that used to be Baron Davis’ thing when he was in NO.
My favorite lineup
is on the floor…most athletic one we have..i think w/ Chandler having to guard Bass we could give him some more fouls
yeah but chandler then owns us
on the rebounds…
I like damp out there whenever he can be… Point being damp has only played 10 min, and chandler has 3 offensive rebounds… and thats with his team shooting 60% right now… so there is not a lot of defensive rebounds for the mavs to go after as it is…
Remember when we tried to go athletic against the Warriors last year vs when we won 67 with dampier at the starting center?
This line up is MORE exciting to watch, but not as effective.
Bass can blow by Chandler
Like he did as I wrote that out. And dirk can post up West. On D, Avery has Damp helping trap and hes too slow to get back and cover or get position for a rebound.
West
is abusing Dirk right now… that guy is picking him apart all over the floor… with no FT’s
Dirk is living at the line right now.
Dirk
Trying to singlehandedly keep us in this thing
Get Eddie Jones off the damn floor...
What does Avery honestly think Jones is going to do for this team?
Wow...
That was just ugly…I am going to do the Mavs a favor and not watch the 2nd half…we do better when I don’t watch…later
We don't even look like a playoff team
Now we have to rely on Avery’s “adjustments,” if there are even any.
should be interesting
if barkley retracts his pregame statement like he had do continually in last years playoffs
I don't know what to suggest on defense...
I’m scratching my head on what adjustments to make. On offense, it’s simple. You drive. Drive again. And then drive again. We’ve got to get to the line.
Looks like I picked a bad day not to drink…
offense
doesnt look that bad, except the consistent iso plays… but whatever.
Its the Defense where we see the lake of effort and need to try harder… and JONES is not the answer! please avery, get a 8 man rotation and stick to it! Even if you need an answer, george can at least move his legs… put him in!
not to drink...
or stop drinking?? Cuz its gonna be a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG night for mavs fans if we dont turn this around in the second half!
Not just a long night
But the next few days will feel like forever as well…game 3 isn’t until Friday.
They just need to not play intimidated....
and stuff the lane, id rather us not trap CP and let them try and beat us on jumpers. Everything is too close to the rim for them.
Anything interesting being said by the TNT crew at the half?
I’m just curious. I’m watching Orlando/Toronto at the moment.
mostly just about how
totally freakin awesome CP3 is…. and then a useless shaq comment that made me throw up in my mouth
Did avery mean
that NO was going to score 10 points in the first 2 min? Cuz that’s about the rate we are allowing them to score in there it seems like right now…
Nice tie Avery
Hope to see a better half o’ ballin’ now.
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
Offensive gameplan from here on out
give ball to dirk
Dirk, when ball is received into your hands, never pass the ball again. Just do your thing.
Mavs need to slow the pace of this game down
way down.
They only gots about 30 pts. to allow in the next 22 mins.
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
Just dont let George shoot!
and dont let Damp take hook shots… and don’t let a ball go in the 3 ft b/w Terry and Kidd for them to point at each other.
The Big German
is going to start looking around like the Big Ticket if the team continues its downhill slide like this. Ah well, i miss the Mavs team where he wasn’t the only one with heart 100% of the time, not just when we are 20 up.
Have a good night folks, can’t watch any more of this one or i’ll be too bitter going into Friday.
Looks like NO
is goin’ for a 67% FG avg.
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
This is so disheartening
I expected them to come out with some semblance of passion tonight. Looks like Dirk’s the only one who came to play.
No doubt 'bout it
The Hornies are Hot, Hot, Hot, Toninight

+1
It’s really disheartening to see the rest of the team go through the motions, like this is game 29 of the regular season. What good is playoff experience if players don’t step-up? They should understand that it takes 48 minutes of effort and poise.
It’s now clear that team wasn’t going to “turn it up” in the playoffs and suddenly become a finely tuned machine on the road. I just don’t see the Mavs being able to win in NO, but I can see NO finally winning a game at the AAC. I hope I’m wrong, and Howard (what’s wrong with the guy (mentally)?! Is he upset with the Mavs for trading his friends (Marquis and Devin)? Does he just not care? Sure seems like it.) suddenly starts playing like a one-time All-Star. I’m with some of you who want to trade him—sure he’s our second leading scorer at 19.9 pts, but his rebounding numbers are horrible for a SF and his defense has always been overrated. ...and no this is not an overreaction – after last year’s debacle I was all for keeping the roster the same.
Josh
Perhaps he is not meant to be our second scoring option. Maybe his All-Star year was a fluke and he played out of his mind. His decline is hard to explain. Does Josh not like being the second banana? When Dirk was hurt, Josh averaged 30 something points, didn’t he (I could be remembering it wrong)? Does he want to be the man on this or some other team?
I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but if Josh is acting up due to the fact his friends were traded, I’m going to lose some respect for him. I mean, what is this, a Francis/Mobley thing?
I can't see the game on tv
but I see on NBA.com that Avery just pulled all the starters. Is it over?
No
Dik and Bass still want to play.
But there is a long way to go, to get back in it. A looong way.

Ten boards for Bass
and at the FT line.

Winning the game has seemed to disappear into the distance.

TNT switches to Magic/Raps
That almost makes the end of the game official.
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
That's all I ask...
Keep driving and get to the line. Slow this game down. Get some stops and there’s a chance.
TNT's comin' back to the Big "D"
What’s the score?
"Lenny Suckerpunch Never bet on me" - Elizabeth "The Lizzard" Lowblow
Kidd needs to be more aggressive at home
Well, not just there…for the remainder of the series. And Josh still only has 10 points, 3-10 FG.
So many frustrating games this season
But none come close to this one. I had in my head all day we were going to come out and make this 1-1. Amazing
I was conflicted all day
I wanted to remain realistic yet optimistic…it’s a tough balance. I was hoping they’d pull even as well, come out firing not just with their shots, but also their attitude. That obviously didn’t happen.
Seriously
I expected much more attitude and intensity. This was dreadful from minute one (except for Bass).
at what point do we now put in herpes
make some hard fouls against paul, west and wells and get suspended?
How' herpes?
hehe

long story, Hopefully he will be gone in the time that it would take me to find the article that relates to his official title around here.
Thanks
Maybe I’ll use next time he’s in P-Town :)

Your team has great upside
Young, quick, and athletic. I love Aldridge. And it seems like Frye has found new life there.
Dirk is -27
Yet he and Bass are the only ones that showed up tonight. Maybe that’s unfair…JET had a decent game, but it was a quiet 16 points.
They need to toss in film
Of the entire NO team smiling and laughing at them. If that doesn’t piss you off, nothing will and you might as well get swept.
I wonder if the
Mavs are as embarrassed as I am right now?
Seriously? Avery? Are you embarrassed by this performance? Josh?
I wish jake was there to ask these questions right now.
I'm going to have to defend myself tomorrow at work
Which is what I’ve been doing since after game 1. It’s getting harder and harder to stand up for these guys.
Now I have to wonder...
With the way the TNT crew praised T-Mac last night for trying to carry his team even though he disappeared in the 4th…will Dirk get the same recognition or just criticism?
NO WAY
he wont… Dirk wont simply because he is dirk, and dirk doesnt get that type of treatment unless he is winning… but every time he loses its all on him and no one else
Lovefest on Chris Paul
Starts in a few mins on TNT. Well, at least I’m used to hearing announcers rave about another team’s star by now.
Honestly, Paul deserves it.
I haven’t seen too many Hornets games all year, just highlights.
He’s the real deal. I just wish he was either a Maverick or not in our division….
by DitchThePlaybook on Apr 22, 2008 9:16 PM CDT up reply actions
yeah...
he will be fun to cheer for when this is all done… unlike davis was last year…
West is making it hard though for me to like that team…
I think
he’s a dick on the court. I lost all all respect for him when he was mouthing “you can’t guard me” to a hall of fame point guard (true or not). I hate all that bravado bullshit. That’s one thing I love about our team—nobody acts like that.

gut this team
fire avery and keep dirk, JJ, bass and wright, get rid of rest ! very disappointing to keep defending these guys !
I'm so tired of this
Dirk is a warrior, but the rest of this team is completely… for lack of a better word-BAD. It’s a difficult thing to say because they don’t lack talent or a track record, but they’re playing like profanitying expletive.
Livin' in Heartbreak Central...
Fire Avery!
FireAvery.com needs your help! Head over the site and leave a comment on any post. The more comments the more the Mavericks front office can see how disappointed and angry their fan base is right now. The site does get read by people with the team, we just need more people being involved on it.
Does the site actually have anything to do with Cuban’s decision after the Mavs are one and done again? No, but it certainly can’t hurt either.
The Mavs only hope
Is for the first ever in-playoffs firing of a coach.
