Ugh
Call me a masochist, but I’m both planning on watching this game, and finishing my paper.
Anyone want to proofread a 25+ page paper on terrorism finance regulation in the U.S. and India?

It was interesting
About six weeks ago… Since then it’s mostly been a grind. I know more about Title III of the USA PATRIOT Act than I ever wanted to (although it probably is the least objectionable part of the Patriot Act by far).
I’m hoping that a win tonight can provide me some motivation to wrap up my conclusions and fix my bluebooking. I hate citations. There’s a reason that I didn’t want to be on a law journal.

Somebody other than Dirk has to step up...
Whether it’s Howard, Terry, Stackhouse, or Kidd… Somebody has to step up and keep the Hornets honest on the defensive end… If nobody is hitting shots, they’ll just start swarming Dirk like they did in the second half Saturday and we’ll have no chance…
Oh, and it’d be nice to see Dampier, Bass, or Stackhouse put Paul or West on their back the first time they get to the rim… Take a hard foul, for God’s sake. Nobody else in the league seems to mind doing so this time of year…

Howard shooting 18 foot jumpers when there is a lane to drive is NOT “being aggressive.”

Memo to Avery Johnson
The trap is not working. You have tried it. Repeatedly. It has not worked, not one single time.
EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU TRY IT DAVID WEST HAS AN OPEN SHOT. IT HAS NOT CREATED A SINGLE TURN OVER. STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT.
You know what the definition of insanity is? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Let me repeat that… 39 points. All this talk about how we were supposed to come out and respond to Paul and thats what we give them.
I know I’m on the ledge, but I cant help but feel a sense of a loss of hope not only within myself with this team, but MY TEAM as well.

You know what?
These last two games have absolutely convinced me of something that I was thinking all season- The people who say that Dirk is soft and that if only he had more leadership this team would be a winner have it completely backwards.
Dirk is the only thing that is dragging this team up toward respectability. He’s a superstar surrounded by an absolutely putrid supporting cast- and Josh Howard has been leading the charge of putridity this year. Replace Dirk with an “average” power forward (Say, Udonis Haslem or Emeka Okafor) and this team would struggle to win 30 games.

Yeah but...
I’d argue his shots havent come any easier since then… all the trade did IMO is energize Dirk to a higher level…
But we still run the same offense we did before the kidd trade. Dont confuse Dirks play since the trade with that being because he is getting easier shots… Dirk just wants it more than he did pre-kidd trade

Maybe Dirk was just looking for some kind of change, like I’m sure we all are right now. If the management makes some positive off season moves, maybe that will energize him even more.

Because
We’re doing, what, exactly, to capitalize on his level of play at the moment? Sure, we could continue to ride this scenario out for the next 5-6 years and get into the playoffs every year, only to lose in round 1. I’d rather blow it up next year, learn what w’ere doing the year after that, and start competing again in 2011.

But every team has had suspensions for that reason...
At some point in this series, someone is going to have to send a message by giving up a hard foul.
Or we’ll be watching Paul shoot floaters in the paint and Tyson Chandler cram it down our throats for 4 games and we’ll be going home.

I like damp out there whenever he can be… Point being damp has only played 10 min, and chandler has 3 offensive rebounds… and thats with his team shooting 60% right now… so there is not a lot of defensive rebounds for the mavs to go after as it is…
Remember when we tried to go athletic against the Warriors last year vs when we won 67 with dampier at the starting center?
This line up is MORE exciting to watch, but not as effective.

+1
It’s really disheartening to see the rest of the team go through the motions, like this is game 29 of the regular season. What good is playoff experience if players don’t step-up? They should understand that it takes 48 minutes of effort and poise.
It’s now clear that team wasn’t going to “turn it up” in the playoffs and suddenly become a finely tuned machine on the road. I just don’t see the Mavs being able to win in NO, but I can see NO finally winning a game at the AAC. I hope I’m wrong, and Howard (what’s wrong with the guy (mentally)?! Is he upset with the Mavs for trading his friends (Marquis and Devin)? Does he just not care? Sure seems like it.) suddenly starts playing like a one-time All-Star. I’m with some of you who want to trade him—sure he’s our second leading scorer at 19.9 pts, but his rebounding numbers are horrible for a SF and his defense has always been overrated. ...and no this is not an overreaction – after last year’s debacle I was all for keeping the roster the same.

Josh
Perhaps he is not meant to be our second scoring option. Maybe his All-Star year was a fluke and he played out of his mind. His decline is hard to explain. Does Josh not like being the second banana? When Dirk was hurt, Josh averaged 30 something points, didn’t he (I could be remembering it wrong)? Does he want to be the man on this or some other team?
I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but if Josh is acting up due to the fact his friends were traded, I’m going to lose some respect for him. I mean, what is this, a Francis/Mobley thing?

he’s a dick on the court. I lost all all respect for him when he was mouthing “you can’t guard me” to a hall of fame point guard (true or not). I hate all that bravado bullshit. That’s one thing I love about our team—nobody acts like that.

Fire Avery!
FireAvery.com needs your help! Head over the site and leave a comment on any post. The more comments the more the Mavericks front office can see how disappointed and angry their fan base is right now. The site does get read by people with the team, we just need more people being involved on it.
Does the site actually have anything to do with Cuban’s decision after the Mavs are one and done again? No, but it certainly can’t hurt either.
