Starting line-up
Scrap the Terry idea. He is too small and it aint gonna do anything. We have seen that lineup before, and it doesnt work. Fisher has a great proposal that I have really wanted too see all year, but havent because of matchups. Well against the likes of teams with bigger front courts such as NO and LA especially, this proposed line up would work to our advanatage IMO.
A NEW STARTING LINEUP?: There is a fine line between “tinkering’’ and “correcting,’’ between “panicking’’ and “adjusting.’’ Stack vs. Jet is already an issue at the starting 2. Backup center must give Avery brain cramps. It could be argued that you leave Bass right where he is, right in the same role in which he’s been effective. …
Or it could be argued that you start him.
I’m thinking more deeply into the notion I tossed out at midnight after the loss, Bass as a first-teamer. It would mean J-Ho playing the 2. It would mean a commitment to playing Damp huge minutes. It would mean supplemental-at-best roles for Stack and Jet. It could mean no roles at all for Eddie and Devean. (Is this really a bad thing?)
Again, add up some minutes: If you buy the idea of letting Brandon Bass be an anchor, you’re talking about 40-plus for Dirk, Kidd, Josh and now Bass. That’s 170 minutes. Damp gets 30. That’s 200. There are just 40 left, so 20 each for Jet and Stack, with Malik and the others getting a spot sniff, and you’re done.
A seven-man rotation, with a reliance on Bass over Stack and Jet and the feeling that, hey, let’s put Josh as the 2 because he couldn’t do any worse.
And a starting lineup that includes an infusion of youth, plenty of offense, and maybe some match-up-ability on defense: Kidd on Mo-Pete, J-Ho on Paul, Bass on West, Dirk on Peja, and Damp on Chandler.
Avery, Byron Scott IS still waiting on that tricky chess move of yours, you know.
It’s radical – no more radical that Avery starting last year’s playoffs in GS without Damp – but radical nevertheless
Now before we over react here... why couldnt this be done? Why has this lineup NEVER been used? It puts us at a HUGE advantage at every position... especially with with NO who has a big front line.
Because of Dirk's ankle, I think he would fair much better out on the defensive end, because Peja aint gonna attack him like West does. Bass is quick enough to stay with West and body him up much more so than Dirk is, but because Avery never really plays the three of them together (Damp, Dirk, Damp) who knows if that could clog the paint up a little more than we have been. There is no need for Josh to follow Peja around... anyone can put a hand in a jump shooters face. Keep Howard on Paul.
So we would matchup like this...
- Kidd vs Mo
- J5 vs CP3
- Dirk vs Peja
- Bass vs West
- Damp vs Chandler
Bass is/has been our 2nd best player right now... we need to exploit that even more. Agreed? Now you ask who do we bring off the bench? Like Fish suggests up here, we rarely bring in anyone else outside of Allen, Terry and Jet... No one else. Please Avery, we are begging you.
No more tinkering with line-ups. No more Juawn, Lue and Jones... Maybe a touch of George if we need it... but it better be because someone is in foul trouble. Funny thing about this line up is also, it matches up against phx (front court of Hill who is 6'9", Amare and Shaq), LA (Lamar 6'`10", Gasol, Bynumn) and Utah (Boozer, AK 6'9", and Memo) even really well IMO. Its a line up that has-too/should be visited at some point on Friday and Sunday.
What do you guys think?

That's what I'd do...
Kidd vs. Peja
Josh vs. CP3
Dirk vs. Peterson
Bass vs. West
Damp vs. Chandler
Hide Dirk on Peterson and throw Josh at CP3…
Then bring Jet/Stack off the bench for Dampier at some point in the first quarter.
The only thing that worries me about that type of rotation is having to trust either Malik Allen or Juwan Howard if Damp or Bass picks up early fouls… I’d probably lean more towards Juwan, but it’s still not something I’m comfortable with.
The main thing is, though...
This team just needs a kick in the ass. They’ve got to change something.
I don’t agree with Randy Galloway often, but he was dead on with his article yesterday. This team has played gutless loser basketball that last 6 quarters in New Orleans. No fire. No intensity. No sense of urgency. Avery has to shake something up now, or this team is finished…
I know this might sound silly
But I really think that Dirk’s length would bother Chandler in the post. Chandler has been killing Damp, mainly because of the huge gap in athleticism and the extra 2 inches in height. I say we start with Bass guarding West and Dirk at the 5. To me, if Dampier gets zero minutes in game 3 while Chandler is in, I would not be the least bit disappointed. Maybe once NO brings in Hilton Armstrong, it’d be a good idea to get Damp some burn to clean up the offensive glass, but with Dirk and Damp on the floor at the same time, their frontcourt will continue to dominate us. Guaranteed. Malik Allen, Eddie Jones, and Devean George have NO BUSINESS getting a single minute of PT right now.
Hrm
I think this line up is horrible.
Bass and Dirk on the floor at the same time just make our defense dreadful at the forward position. Pathetic, even.
Does Josh have the handles to play the two position effectively without a season’s worth of experience? I don’t think so.
If we were worried about our turnovers over the past two games, this line up would be even worse.
okay.
Look at Damp’s stats in the boxscore after tonight and try to tell me that Shawn fking Bradley wouldn’t have played better against Chandler. Chandler literally doesn’t even have to jump to get rebounds over Dampier.
And how would this lineup cause more turnovers?
I do agree that it would be a horrible decision to have Josh at the two though.
