J Ho and Kumar go to white castle?

Espn just reported that Josh Howard admits to smoking marijuana during the offseason.  Just the whipped cream that we need on top of this great playoff run so far.  Apparantly he claims that it does not affect his play or his character.  I dont know about most of you guys but I would think twice before sending my kid to a basketball camp in the summer where the sponser is a pothead.  The mavs did not need this right now

He said this to Brad Davis

of the DMN right before the playoffs. He’s since confirmed it on the radio and not backed down from it at all.

Personally, I don’t care, but I’m really surprised the Mavs organization hasn’t asked him to make some sort of apology/retraction.

retract?

if he’s telling the truth he can’t retract in good conscious.

and i wouldn’t apologize for smoking pot if i wasn’t sorry. he may be sorry for admitting it, but he shouldn’t really be sorry for smoking pot.

He could retract

that he doesn’t think it’s a big deal or that it doesn’t affect him. Even if he’s lying.

the only thing he maybe should apologize for

is implicating other nba players. not by name, but by saying that lotsa others do it.

he’s not doing any hard drugs. i think apologizing for smoking pot is like apologizing for running a stop sign. big deal.

his timing was bad, but i think that tomorrow nobody will care.

I don't think there's anything to apologize for here.

I know there are plenty of folks who don’t get it or don’t want to believe it, but he’s simply telling the truth. He’s got to understand how it’s going to affect how others think about him – especially in terms of his endorsements, etc. – and the fact that he’s willing to be honest about it says something. The NBA is rife with marijuana use, and Josh isn’t the first person to state the fact.

I also love the fact in that interview with Michael Irvin, he nails Mike about saying he was being honest about what he does rather than ‘lying about what happened like others did’. I thought it was awesome.

I can understand what the Mavs have at stake, though. I’m sure they’ll be some sort of kiss-and-make-nice about it, but it would please me if they would just ignore it.

Tirico really clobbered the broadcast with that story. He was carrying ON AND ON AND ON, ad nauseum, to the point that he justified it by saying “I know we have a playoff game here, but this is an important storyline.”

Ugh. I want to take a bat to that guy’s face. He totally killed the game for me by beating that story to a pulp. And then SAS/BSPN weighing in on it as a subplot … puke.

People who smoke pot

shouldn’t be allowed to play sports professionally.

That has to be

the most closed-minded, completely ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

Would you rather have a league full of gun-toting alcoholic club hoppers than a league where a few people smoke pot?

I guess these are the kind of comments that teach professional sports players to be so cliche and boring in interviews.

But yes, it probably wasn’t the best thing to publicize right before his absolute no-show in New Orleans.

Maybe if he came out with two 30 and 10 games this series, he wouldn’t be under so much scrutiny for his [honest] remarks.

Argh

Nice job, Josh. You’ve got Avery and Cuban both having to discuss this crap on the day your team might go 0-3 in playoffs! Your 28 years old and talking like your 18. Just stupid. You also just put yourself directly on David Stern and the Dallas PD’s radar. Worth it? Yeah…not so much.

Did I say anything about gun-toting alcoholic club hoppers?

And with your question I would “rather” have potheads, but I don’t want any of these kinds of people in professional sports.

And finally the "apology".

I recently talked about a controversial topic with members of the media. I used poor judgment and I want to apologize to my fans, the Mavericks and the NBA. I am fortunate to be playing basketball in the NBA. I realize I have a responsibility as a role model for young fans, and I take that responsibility seriously.

I wish he would apologize for his play on here too...

Man I have loved this guy since we got him, but tonight was unbelievable. Something is definitely up with him right now. He just cant get back on track with his game…

Im sure we’ll hear about what it is 2 months from now like we did Damps shoulder last year… I hope

Hmmm...

Are we supposed to be able to deduce what exactly it is that he’s apologizing for?

Oh wait, I get it now….he’s sorry that he bothered with a half-assed midday radio show. In that case, I agree….He should use better judgment.
