The Blazers' Changing Paradigm Bar-right-arrows

So.....

First off, congrats to New Orleans who were quite clearly the better team.  An important fact to remember before saying the Mavs 'choked' again...

I'm in meetings all morning so I can't get a link  post up, but use this as open thread to discuss all the talk this morning -- such as J5's birthday party or the ridiculous suggestion by J.A Adande that Dallas should trade Dirk this offseason so they can sign Dwyane Wade in 2010.

Initial thoughts

Woke up this morning not as depressed as I thought I’d be. Guess that what happens when you go through the Miami/GS debacles along with the strangest season in a long, long time. Truthfully, I didn’t think we’d win the championship this year after watching them since the Kidd trade. With that in mind, I guess I’m ok with losing in first round and starting the process to fix all the problems with this team.

Re: Josh. That b-day party story sealed the deal for me. I’ve got severe tiredhead with him. I’m sure they’ll do this anyway, but if you can get him out of here, let’s do it. Take out the b-day and pot story, you’re still dealing with a guy that is a horrendous passer/dribbler and reluctant to take it to the hole. That doesn’t cut it.

Re: Avery. As much as I like him (obvious by my name on here), it’s time to move on. I don’t know that there is one coach that I desparately want, but I’d be pretty happy hearing a Westphal/Del Harris type will be our next head coach. Loved Avery but it’s just time in my mind.

Rather than a single Westphal/Del Harris type,

how about one of those guys being the head coach and one being the assistant (who is actually consulted by the head coach)? Not sure I’m commited to that idea, but it might work. Then again, maybe we need some entirely new blood at the head of the bench.

Like it

I also think Westphal/Harris would know how to work well with Nellie and Cuban. That’s a plus if we’re trying to keep some form of cohesion. Who knows…

I do know that I’m anticipating getting some form of a news alert any hour about Avery. Maybe not but does make you wonder what types of phone calls/meetings/etc. are currently taking place in that organization.

JA

is a damn moron if he ever thinks this organization will go after D-whistle. Now to go after LBJ… now that is something I can see Cuban doing… or even Chris Bosh.

But the most difficult realization for this team this off-season might be to determine if we have what it takes, or can put together what it takes, to win a championship this next year. I imagine we will get pretty aggressive this off-season to make it work for Dirk, its not in Cubans nature to quit on him. That’s his boy, and as Dirk goes, I am afraid Cuban will go as well. So I dont see us packing up the team for undeveloped players and draft picks for the next three years.

But on the flip side of it though, if we cant pull and Antoine Walker for Jason Terry type deals this summer, it may be in everyone’s best interest to wipe the slate clean and start over. The worst thing we do is stay still though, only replacing a coach to a broken team which is already 3 oldest in the NBA.

Another point to bring up. BASS. I love that guy to death, his heart this year was bigger than anyone else’s in the organization. But is this one of those things, where we should sell high? If/as he continues to improve, it doesnt look like we will be able to sign him after next year anyway, so why not try and move him now when he has a TON of value and upside to him?

thought

ESPN’s Simmons suggested a Carmelo for J-Ho swap. I don’t see how it works under the salary cap, but I’d be all for a deal like that. I’d also like to see Del Harris or Tom Thibodaux(sp?) from the Celtics as coach. Someone who will concentrate on D and let Kidd run the offense.

Not sure I would want Melo

He has underachieved, in my opinion.

I feel that

way about all of Denver’s players (except Najera and Camby, maybe).

by rassoodocks on Apr 30, 2008 2:34 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I want Eddie Najera back at Dallas

Brandon is our only hustle-type player.

by Marie on Apr 30, 2008 2:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

underacheived

Howard has underachieved lately as well. That’s why the trade makes sense. Who else are you going to get for Howard at this point?

You'd have to do that deal

and you’d have to do it in about half a second.

Dirkles is still an absolute offensive force, but there’s no one else on this team right now who can step up and take some of the scoring pressure off of him.

I’d trade Josh + Bass + Whatever else it took to get my hands on Melo… but it ain’t happening. Total pipe dream. Unless Carmello DEMANDS out of Denver he’s not getting traded. And if even if he did, he’d pretty much have to demand to come to Dalas, cause any number of teams could trump a Josh/Bass offer.

Hey...

This trade works!

Melo
Nene’s horrible contract
KMart’s horrible contract

for
Brandon Bass
Eric Dampier
Josh Howard
Jason Terry
Jerry Stackhouse

That’d leave us with a starting 5 of Kidd, (SG), Melo, Dirk and Martin or Nene.

Maybe Denver might think about doing that deal… since it’d rid them of two HORRIBLE contracts and still leave them with AI, JR Smith, Klieza, Camby and their role players.

Playing around with the trade machine is FUN!

Are you kidding me.

If you want to trade so many people then do this: Dampier, Howard, and Stackhouse for Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson.

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

by srdmad on May 2, 2008 5:29 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Nope

My trade’s better ;)

Honestly I think Dirk needs a real second scoring threat. Getting Kidd only works if he has a lot of weapons at his disposal. I know it’s a ridiculous pipe dream, but getting Carmello at SF and K-Mart and Nene as a two-headed monster in the middle with Dirk and Kidd would be very fun to watch… at least until Nene and K-Mart get injured for the year two weeks into the season.

Hey, in your trade proposal do you think we could talk NJ into giving us back that ‘10 unprotected draft pick we sent them? What if we asked really nice?

If Wade ever becomes a Maverick

I’m going to stop being a fan, plain and simple.

by Marie on Apr 30, 2008 1:34 PM CDT   1 recs

A-men!!

Also, the Hornets are really that good…..Dallas got on an unbelievable roll at the end and they stood up to it. I’m very interested to see this team up against LA or SA.

by DitchThePlaybook on Apr 30, 2008 3:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

They're definitely good

They have a lot of key pieces that fit together very well. If we had gone up against LA or SA, it might not look so bad if we’d lost since LA or SA would have been the favorite. I didn’t buy any of the “we’re not under any pressure” stuff they were spouting before the series started. If anything, they were pressured to beat NO because of past disappointing post-seasons, because NO is a young team with no playoff experience, and they had that one long streak in which they dominated the Hornets for years.

by Marie on Apr 30, 2008 3:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Oh no...

Out of all the players, if Wade became a Maverick, I would stop and follow another team myself until he was gone. He has nothing to offer this team. He’s injury prone now anyways.

We didn't trade Dirk last year.

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

by srdmad on Apr 30, 2008 5:39 PM CDT   0 recs

OMG

If traded Dirk in order to sign Dwyade I’d drink myself into a stupor and then kill 3 hobos.

I can’t even consider that as a possibility…

My head hurts from all the angry juice right now.

DWYADE?!?

JHo will Likely Stay

I was listening to Donnie Jr. on the radio this morning, and he talked about JHo being part of the family, and learning from his mistakes, etc, etc. All that said, if the deal was right, Mavs would trade in a heart beat. But that is a big, big IF. The Mavs should not revamp the team just to rid of JHo.

I think it’s been stated before (many many times), but JHo needs to go to the hoop, and draw fouls. I cannot understand how he refuses to do this, since it obvious benefits him and the team. I think they need to make him a bench player, and see how that sits with him. The new coach can send him to the bench (7th man), and see if that will light a fire under his backside.

Half the Mavs Roster are Free Agents

Donnie Jr. stated that half the roster are free agents. I did not realize this. Cuban and the new coach can really changed this team without moving the core group of players. No need for a fire sale.
