Want Him or Don't Want Him: Jason Terry

Want Him: He can still shoot, which means he can still score.  He was also arguably the Mavs second best player in the postseason.  His effort and passion can't be questioned.  Likable guy.

Don't Want Him: He's a man without a position, and he's on the wrong side of the 30 with four years left on his contract.

contract

not sure if anyone else wants to take on his contract.

by ary201 on May 13, 2008 12:38 PM CDT   0 recs

A bit of a no-brainer

He’s a good fit for this squad, he provides scoring we were desperately lacking from everyone else not named Dirk in the playoffs and his contract is virtually untradeable.

Want him, but probably couldn’t get rid of him even if I didn’t.

Untradeable?

There’s no way his contract is “virtually untradeable”. It’s not a deal, by any means, but I think Jet reminded some folks of his abilities in the playoffs.

I want him unless we aquire a stud three point shooter at the two or three.

I really think you'll have a hard time

finding a buyer for 4 years of $10 million for a guy that, as Wes mentioned, doesn’t have a true position. He’s too small to be a shooting guard, and we’ve been down the point guard road. Plus you’d have to match salaries, etc. Not going to happen, unless Indiana bites on a Jermaine-O trade, which I seriously doubt they’d do if Terry was part of the return.

Love JET...

But due to my position on trading him if it could net us a piece that would fit better with Kidd…

Reluctantly, “Don’t Want Him”... For now.

By limiting the answer to want him and don't want, you are not getting a fair judgement of what people are thinking.

Yeah, I do want Terry on this team, but his salary and years are kind of a lot for a player of his talent. If I say don’t want, then it sounds like I don’t like this guy and want him traded at all cost.

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

I hear ya

but I think a ‘would trade him for the right piece’ option would get way too much of the vote, and kind of defeat the purpose. I’m always open to suggestions though.

I see your point.

But I see Wes’s point also…

I know some people like the idea of Terry for Maggette,

would it be possible to get Shaun Livingston as long as he passes his physical of course. And also Devin Harris is a free agent after next season, at least that’s what hoopshype.com tells me.

that would seriously be funny

if Harris came back… But I doubt it would happen. Unless Cuban starts saying all the right things and basically comes out and openly says he made a mistake in letting Harris go, I doubt we see that happen.

Thinking about it though, I guess in all reality both could happen, especially if the Mavs go to re-negotiate a new contract with Kidd, and he is asking too much… Cuban could start throwing Kidd under the bus, say the right things about the Harris trade and that he was in the wrong (if we dont win a championship that is) and position the team to go and try to get Harris back.

I found this, but it's two months old.

Brandon Bass is a low post threat, but I would hate to see him go, but Hinirch is so good, but then we would have two point guards.

I'd do it for Stack and Terry

Contract values even match up…

But I doubt the Bulls would do it… unless Avery goes there… then he can have some of his boys back.

Having Kidd mentor Hinrich would do WONDERS for his game I feel like…

Pah

That’s almost a mirror deal to a trade I made in NBA Live 2005 on my Mavs dynasty.

On an 05-06 season roster, I traded Stack and Terry for Gordon, Deng and some pricey expiring contract ;)

In real-life though, I think we’d be getting the better of the trade. Gordon is Terry with perhaps better overall scoring, similar tweener characteristics and possibly worse defence. Hinrich should be good succeeding Kidd as he can score a little, shoot the three well and plays pretty good D (I think he was All-Defensive 2 a couple years back?)

Except it’d leave us a little weird at positions, but I still think it’s better on our side.

Trade Him

Really the mavs have lacked at shooting gaurd we have been using Terry whos to small and ends up having to defend against bigger gaurds or stack well he is getting old and inconsistent. I would trade him ….Ron Artest that seems realistic…and Howard I would try to move him too…see if we could work out a deal for Richard Jefferson maybe throw in Barea….What about the idea of Andre Miller- Kidds been in the league 14 years next season. The mavs will make some moves I hope they are the right ones this year…I like Terry but we need to fill legitamate needs. Carlisle is great start.

Want Him or Don't Want Him: Lebron James

Will this game make Lebron say I want a better team, or I’m leaving in 2 years?

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
