While you cant compare the timing to that of Josh’s, Cubans remarks on the Dan Patrick show about his pot use, doesn’t really set my mind to rest about him not entirely "forgiving and forgeting" Josh for what he said during the playoffs.

I've inhaled, and when I inhaled, I coughed a couple lungs out. So I was never a big fan of smoking. But if I've tried it, I can't look at somebody and say, 'How can you try it? That's just terrible.

Most are assuming though that this is just Cuban stepping in and taking away some of the negative attention away from Josh right now, and putting it more on himself.  And it has to some degree...   Here is what others have had to say about it

In a stunning move of Jose Canseco proportions, maverick Maverick owner Mark Cuban admits to smoking a bit of the herb. In his gallant attempt to defend player #420  Cuban fell on his bong sword and toked one for his team.

...

In a startling related development, Carmelo Anthony and Lamar Odom instructed their agents to demand immediate trades to Dallas. "I want to play for a guy that get's me and understands my needs," explained Melo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

On that note, there has been a lot of trade discussion on here about who the Mavs should be looking at, who we give up, etc.  Eddie Sefko breaks down a list of 15 players of who we could go after with Josh...  **CAUTION:  READ AT OWN RISK** - Some of the scenarios are quite hilarious and seem VERY unrealistic... but then again, what do I know?

TRADING JOSH HOWARD: SOME SCENARIOS
Team/Mavs get Why it works Why it doesn't
New Jersey / Richard Jefferson Two guys, virtually the same age, playing the same position, who need new scenery. And the Nets and Mavs know how to talk trade together Mavs would have to kick in another player to make it work
Miami / Shawn Marion Miami can sign and trade the oft-disgruntled star and get a player whom Pat Riley drooled over in the past. Mavs would have to throw in extra, substantial pieces The Mavericks are old already and Marion, 30, is older than Howard
Charlotte / Gerald Wallace The athletic Wallace would be nice alongside Kidd, and Howard would be heading to his homeland. Jason Richardson might be more appealing, though You're trading players who are too similar, both of whom have warts
Denver / Carmelo Anthony The Mavericks throw in Brandon Bass and other components that the Nuggets somehow find appealing. It only works if the Nuggets are desperate Nene would be more readily obtainable, as would Eduardo Najera
Milwaukee / Michael Redd Mavs pursued Redd when he was a restricted free agent a few years ago, and he's a terrific shooter. Charlie Villanueva will be the guy the Bucks shop, however If the Bucks give up their best player, they will try to break the bank
Detroit / Chauncey Billups Rick Carlisle got Billups to Detroit. Billups could be Jason Kidd's replacement in time. Pistons would get younger and have Rodney Stuckey waiting to replace Billups If the Pistons win it all this year, they won't be making big changes
LA Clippers / Corey Maggette Mavs may have to take a little junk off the Clips' roster (Tim Thomas), but this makes some sense if both sides want something new Maggette has to exercise his option rather than becoming a free agent
Atlanta / Marvin Williams, Zaza Pachulia Hawks dump a player (Williams) who is extraneous for them. Mavs get an expiring contract (Pachulia) and a solid, unspectacular former No. 2 overall pick (Williams) Josh Smith fits Mavs better; Hawks need a point guard, not a swingman
Memphis / Mike Miller Grizzlies would get something good for a player who doesn't fit in their future, and the Mavericks get a shooter who can actually shoot Howard is too much like Rudy Gay, who is younger and better
Golden State / Stephen Jackson, Marco Belinelli Warriors get another athlete to run in Don Nelson's system, and the Mavericks get a player who doesn't back down from anybody Can you really see Mark Cuban and Don Nelson pulling off a deal?
Indiana / Danny Granger, Jamaal Tinsley or Marquis Daniels Other than salary matching, it's hard to see the upside for the Pacers, who would be taking on more salary unless they can make the Mavs take Tinsley The Mavericks would be better served by shooting for Jermaine O'Neal
Chicago / Andres Nocioni, Thabo Sefalosha In Nocioni, the Mavs get an active shooter who can help at three positions. Sefalosha is a youngster with potential. Substituting Drew Gooden might be an option Bulls didn't break things up for Kevin Garnett. Why do it for Howard?
Cleveland / Wally Szczerbiak Mavs throw in a re-signed Tyronn Lue or somebody else to make it work, and Wally Z's expiring contract ($13 mil) looks great, as does Howard next to LeBron This would be like getting nothing but cap space for Howard
New York / Zach Randolph (for Howard and Jerry Stackhouse) Actually, for the Mavericks, it works better for Eddy Curry, straight up. But the Knicks probably will move Randolph before Curry. A low-post threat, for sure Randolph has much more baggage than Howard
Phoenix / Boris Diaw Virtually a perfect match on the cap as both players have many years left, and the Suns want to move on. Leandro Barbosa might be more appealing to the Mavs Neither Diaw nor Barbosa has proven themselves to be on Howard's level

Feel free to insert joke about Boris Meow here.

Avery Johnson update:  Many of you have seen him on ESPN lately doing the playoff games and of course hearing him call Harris an elite point guard again.  But what of his next REAL job?

Turns out, when all else fails for the Bulls, and the coach with three first names leaves them high and dry, they are now turning too the 'lil General today to speak with him again about possibly coaching there.

Best of luck AJ.  No, seriously, I would hate to have Cuban (though it does not effect me in any way, shape or form) pay you 4 mil a year the next few years, only to have you become our next Shawn Bradley.  What if he doesnt land the job in Chicago?

Johnson essentially said he would be inclined to take the season off if he is not offered the Bulls job.

Bah, I'm not a fan of Avery Johnson deciding to be available

because of lotto luck.

A few problems with the Howard-Bulls trade:
Nocioni plays both forward spots, and that’s it. He’s too slow and bad at dribbling for small forward, and too small and bad at rebounding for power forward. He’s not good at defending either position, or playing within a team defensive scheme either. Saying he’s versatile is just a nice thing to say.

Sefolosha is 24. Kind of old for a rather raw prospect.

JoHo and Luol Deng are both small forwards.

Just a hunch
Bulls didn’t break things up for Kevin Garnett. Why do it for Howard?

They didn’t have the top pick in the draft when that happened.

and the Bulls were good when Garnett was available

missing the playoffs in the east will make you reconsider your priorities pretty quickly

I didn't realize new priorities included trading for a redundant player

who’s 5 years older, and will probably cost more. That’s not the craziest trade on the list, but I can’t complain about Billups getting undervalued if there’s a disclaimer.

So delicious

I’d love to see Avery ruin Derrick Rose’s career.

I suggested getting Nacioni a few days, you guys want a tough, dirty work player, he's your guy.

But I don’t want to only get him in return for Howard. We could trade him for Wallace and Emeka Okafor. Then trade Bass to the Bulls for Hinrich.

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

Why would either of those teams make those trades?

Howard for Wallace and Okafor?

And it’s impossible to trade Bass for Hinrich because of salaries, but I can’t imagine the Bulls would give him up for Bass straight up anyways.

Rose and Bass.

I think that would be a somewhat good combo in the future.

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

"Why would either of those teams make those trades?"

The guy up above said just Wallace would be fine and I added Okafor, so I think that would fine for the Mavericks from this guy’s point of view and Dallas was looking at him last summer. I was modifying his trade.

Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

Ha.
