Want Him or Don't Want Him: Jason Kidd
| Contract Status | ||
| Year | $$$$ | Age @ End of Season |
| 08/09 | $21,372,000 | 36 |
Want Him: He needs a legitimate chance to make this work -- a full season to gel with his teammates and full reign over the play calling. Given the freedom on offense he needs, he could still show why he's a future hall of famer.
Don't Want Him: His 30 games showed he was well past his prime (on both ends) and incapable of leading a championship team. Dallas should cut their losses and get what they can for his expiring contact.

Chris Paul and Deron Williams are still in the Western Conference.
There are worse players to have at point on your team, but at some point the Mavs will have to put a player on the floor that can compete with the elite guards in the West. I think that we’ve seen enough to know that in 2009, that player is not Jason Kidd for all the reasons you cite.

Want him... For now.
That contract is going to be a real asset at some point within the next year…
If I'm a Mavs fan
I’m hoping Cuban finds a team stupid/desperate enough for Kidd to take him off the Mavs’ hands. There was no sense in trading for him and there’s no sense in keeping him around.
Even if you don't want him...
...you have to keep him until the trade deadline next season. Expiring contracts have their full value in the middle of a season, when teams realize they’re not going to contend and are ready to sell off pricey assets.
But I want him.
Depends on the coach's scheme
It’s up to the coach to make Kidd effective. The slow, stymied half-court offense of AJ’s design made it hard for Kidd ( and Harris ) to create. Of course, good defense helps the transition game, so we have to have that going for us also.
It breaks one of two ways
Either a new coach + a training camp = Kidd + Bass looking like Paul + Chandler; but with Dirk abusing everyone from the elbows and wings, and J5 looking like himself again…
Or, by January we’re going to be looking for a buyer, and hoping to get a draft pick in return.

I was against the Harris trade
But I voted to keep Kidd because, as Derek noted, it’s for lack of a better option and also because I would like to see how this team can be after a training camp and a full year with him. While he is outmatched by the other West guards like Paul, Williams, Parker, etc., perhaps Kidd can contribute and make the team better in other ways.
Or I could just be in denial and over-optimistic…
I choose option "C"
Stuck with him.

I think you should add more options.
Want him.
Don’t want him.
Would like to trade for right price.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
Rondo?
Devin Harris 2.0? If the celts dont win it this year… they could be in the same situation we were this last year!! Maybe we could send Kidd, Allen, and another young guy for Rondo, perkins and scraps…
Just a thought.
I didn't mean this for Kidd.
I meant for future players, like Howard.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
Here's a trade that works.
Dallas gets Darko, Redd, Miler.
Memphis gets Damp, Jones.
Bucks get Howard, Stack, plus a little bit of more money.

Interesting...
I’m actually excited about the Darko prospect. I can’t write him off as a bust, he is still just a kid and has had success in international play. One thing his past NBA teams didn’t have was Dirk. Dirk has a history of befriending foreign players, but more importantly, he and Darko share a position and the experience of translating from the European to NBA game. If nothing else he is probably attainable.
no no no, darko is a bust, its over. people have been saying “i cant call him a bust yet, hes just a kid!” for 5 seasons now. at some point, accept reality. the only player i can think of that was this bad for so long and then suddenly became competent was jermaine o’neal, and those are few and far between. basically, i wouldn’t trade for darko, not even if all we had to give up was stack.
speaking of JO, how bout kidd and junk for jermaine and their 1st?

I was also thinking of maybe a Howard, Terry for Redd and Bucks first round pick.

Darko is 22.
Dirk sucked so bad his first few years, that he was thinking of going back to Europe. There was a reason he was the number 2 pick, only behind Lebron. Detroit messed him up, because they should have known Larry Brown wasn’t going to trade him. The question isn’t do you want Darko. It’s do you want Darko or Dampier and I would want Darko.

I came up with this.
Dallas gets Redd, Darko, Mike Miller, Marquis Daniels.
Milwaukee gets Josh Howard, Stackhouse, and Bass(only used him so the trade would work on the website, don’t want to trade, will need to do a sign and trade).
Memphis gets Dampier, Eddie Jones(player option will need to be exercised), Travis Deiner.
Indiana gets Jason Terry and Reyshawn Terry.
We may have to give some 2nd round picks away

I'd volunteer
I’m only 6’3”, but I usually play PF/C in my intermural games…
What, no imput on this.
Or is it too much thinking that it might hurt your brain.(lol)
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
We would have to buy Denver's 20th pick.
Then our lineup would be this.
Kidd-20th pick
Redd-Miller
Daniels-?
Dirk-Bass
Darko-?
This team would cost around 80 million. If we payed a backup C and SF for 5 million each and 1 million for the 11th-15th men on the bench. Our salary would be only 95 million, 10 less than last year.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
And that's if we payed 5 million for backup C and SF.
Diop and Nenad Krstic barely made 4 million together last year.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?
