Want Him or Don't Want Him: Erick Dampier
| Contract Status | ||
| Year | $$$$ | Age @ End of Season |
| 08/09 | $9,550,000 | 33 |
| 09/10 | $10,112,500 | 34 |
| 10/11 | $13,075,000 | 35 |
Want Him: His impact on the game doesn't show up in the box score, and while he's overpaid he might also be underrated.
Don't Want Him: The coach who wanted him has left and he should too. This year in the postseason -- 18 points, 21 rebounds, 3 blocks -- in all five games combined...

This is a tough one
I said want him just because there’s no way we get out of that contract and get a fair return for him. When he’s at his best he’s a game changer. When he’s at his worst … he sits on the bench in the playoffs. Maybe a new coach will help, but I kind of doubt it. We’re probably stuck with inconsistent Damp, but I can’t really think of anyone else we could bring in that would be better.

Stuck with him
but it aint THAT bad as most people make it out to be, given that he was the best thing to come out of the kidd trade, and having a training camp with him can only leave us wanting more…
I dont care much for the points so much, 7-10 a game would do, nor do I expect him to stick on the likes of Amare… but he had better man up against the boozers, duncans, and other post-playing big men in the league. Rebounding needs to get a little more consistent, but other than his contract being too much, he is a great assets to the team IMO. Everyone talks about getting a 15 and 12 guy out there, but there just aint a lot out there.

Do not want
but have no choice. Probably the least movable of all the current players.

I voted don't want, but I would rather have somebody with better hands,
like Darko Milicic. If we do have to keep him, then we have to get a good backup, not just someone to fill in.
Brandon Webb, do I need to say more?

Damp
He plays too pivotal a role on this team to just say with a blanket statement “he should go”. You can’t move him without a viable replacement for him. Despite his contract, he’s a luxury in a sense that he is one of the few true centers left in the NBA, and that still means something some nights.
So really, I don’t want to hear “he should go” unless it’s followed with a plan to replace him, and “sign Diop” doesn’t count.

True, but if you can trade him, among others, for an all-star or close to all-star player, then I want him traded.
I don’t want to get rid of him for a nobody just to get rid of his contract.
