How about Keyon Dooling?

He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.  According to the Orlando Sentinel:

Dooling said earlier this week that he would love to re-sign with the Magic, but he also was clear that the business of basketball could take him elsewhere next season and beyond, depending on who wants him the most.

...

Neither Dooling nor Pelinka would speculate on potential contract offers, but there are several teams that are expected to show interest, including the Miami Heat, the Dallas Mavericks and the Utah Jazz.

His agent describes him as a "Swiss army knife.  He can do a lot of things well."

So, in the same vein as those old Animaniacs cartoons: Good idea?  Bad idea?

No need to apologize

The Magic are my home team and I have reservations about Dooling as well. He is not consistent off the bench and can dribble the ball too much at times when he is at point guard, but he is not bad on defense, quick, and can provide decent scoring numbers.

The article makes it seem like he wants to stay in Orlando, anyway, but he’s all about following the big money, wherever it may be.

Defense, defense, defense...

Dooling can defend the PG position. Why not bring him in if the price is right? I’d MUCH rather have him than Tyronn Lue.

because

this team has limited assets. Would you rather spend money on Dooling or a wing player like CJ MIles and a backup center like Diop?

It'd be a crying shame...

if the mavs didn’t go after Miles. He will come cheap, his family is still in Dallas, and he has a lot of potential if he actually get some burn.

By 'If the price is right'...

I’m assuming nobody is going to give Keyon Dooling the full MLE…

If you could split the MLE between Dooling and Diop, I’d do that in a heartbeat…

Why waste cash assets on a guy like CJ Miles, who has shown next to nothing in 3 years, when we can just bring Reyshawn Terry back from overseas and re-sign Antoine Wright?

I’d be interested in CJ Miles, but not if it costs us a big chunk of the mid-level exception…
