That sucked
So with all talk about moving up in the Draft, the Mavs FO must have fallen asleep and forgot that CDR was available until almost halfway into the 2nd round. So was Walker.
But they seemed to have come alive, and took what was probably the best available player at 51 in Shan Foster.

Here is some info on Shan via nbadraft.net, wikipedia, and the 4 lettered network.
He is 6-6, 195lbs, and averaged over 20 ppg on 50% shooting for Vandy last year. Seems as though he made need to put on some weight, but could see some quality PT seeing how we really might not have any money to spend on FA's now that it looks like Diop will take up all of our MLE.

Not Excited about Shan Foster...
And even more disappointed in the perceived lack of activity, especially when some of these guys started falling…
Darrell Arthur, DeAndre Jordan, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Billy Walker…
Something has to be coming over the next few weeks… I’ll have absolutely no hope in this team whatsoever if they go into 2008/2009 with essentially the same exact roster.

Donnie Nelson said the Mavs were “active” late in the first round and at various points in the second round. But teams wanted more cash for picks than Mark Cuban was willing to cough up.“We didn’t feel the price was right,” Nelson said.
I asked specifically about Memphis SG Chris Douglas-Roberts. Nelson acknowledged that the Mavs were surprised CDR slipped as far as he did. However, Nelson indicated that the Mavs thought Shan Foster’s shooting ability made him a better fit than CDR, a slasher.
“We really were looking for somebody who can shoot and spread the court,” Nelson said. “Shan is a heck of a pick at 51.”
This Sucks. One of the reason I liked Cuban was that he was cheap but this is a STUPID move to not buy Walker or CDR.
"Point is I could have had them if I wanted. But I DO NOT lower my standards. Do they know who I am? Do they know my status? Thats what I thought." -miles

It has to be.
Cuban better not be turning into Hicks. I don’t think he is, probably false.
Also, we have Mayo/Love swap Min and Mem. Involves Mike Miller/Shimmy/Buckner/Adriana Lima boyfriend/Cardinal and Collins.

I don't mean
to keep beating a dead horse. But that is the one that is driving me crazy. If the Wizards didn’t want Walker and were planning on selling him… The Mavs should have been right there paying whatever to get him. You get him and if you’re scared about the injury risk you still have your so called A prospect in Foster. Makes no sense at all. Blah.

can we find out
how much boston paid for walker? Is this made public? I would like to find out how “crazy” these cash offers are going for.

Nothing right now
since it’s “future” cash considerations, but eventually it will.

More
on what happened from the star-telegram
An hour before the draft, Nelson said he and owner Mark Cuban were ready to pounce and buy their way into the latter part of the first round if a player they coveted was available.Nelson said the Mavs made overtures to move up for two or three players, but he said teams were reluctant to give up late first-round and even early second-round picks or they were asking too steep a price.
“I’ve never seen the second round, as far as picks go, go for that much cash,” Nelson said. “Some of the things being thrown around were just crazy.”
I wonder if by Cuban openly admitting that he wanted to buy a pick for the past few weeks, teams knew they could get more money from him. Didnt some of the picks that WERE bought by other teams though go for only about 3 million dollars? This isnt adding up still.

From Carlisle:
"We had a list of a players, A’s, B’s and C’s. … Shan Foster was the last of the A’s on our list. … I don’t think many of us would’ve dreamed we’d get a kid like this that low.’’
"You’re talking about one of the leading scorers in a major conference. … To be a Player of the Year in a big-time conference, you have to be pretty damn good.’’
"The thing I like along with the shooting ability is the maturity, experience, and extremely high character,’’
"He’s a slender kid, he doesn’t have great strength, and he needs to get better defensively,’’
"That has to do with physical makeup. We’ve got a strength coach here very anxious to get started with him.’’

more from the coach
“This draft was so deep that people were reluctant to part with their first-round picks and early second-round picks.”
“He’ll have to earn it, but there’s opportunity here.”

Meh
I dont mind the Foster pick, as a matter of fact its kind of growing on me, however to tell me Cuban balked at BUYING some picks is freaking absurd. Mark…. do you want to win? Or do you want another year like this last couple?
Im about to the point where I say go to Chicago Mark, Im done with ya.

Chad Ford gives
us a D for the Draft stating the following:
Dallas sent its first-round pick to the Nets as part of what is shaping up to be a disastrous deal for Jason Kidd. With the Mavs looking old and on the downward slope, they no longer have a pick to start to reload their team.
