What can the Mavs offer, that other teams cant?
Props to N41D for reporting this first...
Baron Davis signs with the Clippers...
WOW…
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3470016
One plus is that it all but guarantees Corey Maggette will not get more than the MLE… They’ve got to renounce his sign and trade rights to make this deal work, so he’s out there for 5.5 million or whatever…
So, what this means is that we can no longer do a S&T for Maggette... no one can. So with everyone out there targeting Corey with their MLE, do the Mavs have what it takes to seperate themselves from the likes of Boston, Orlando, or even Phoenix?
I believe so, and it's because of one of the most outspoken and player-friendly owners in the league. Time to step up Mark... the money is even out there for him, but what are the Mavericks organization going to offer him that other teams wont?
[Note by Toddy, 07/01/08 9:55 PM MDT ] Dont worry, it just got worse... Spurs are reported as being the front runners for Maggette...
@#$%@$%@^$@!#$!@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[Note by Toddy, 07/01/08 10:01 PM MDT ] DANGIT DANGIT DANGIT... again just got word that Boston has made offers to both Posey AND Maggette already
[Note by Toddy, 07/01/08 10:41 PM MDT ] Mavs agree to terms with Gerald Green... one year deal, not sure how much, which also raises the question: Does this deal take up any part of the MLE?

I definitely think they can...
Cuban gonna have to roll out the red carpet, but we’ll see…
If I’m Cuban, I’m giving the full MLE to Corey Maggette or JR Smith…

Nuggets would match in a heartbeat
I think the Nuggets are praying that J.R. Smith gets a full MLE offer, then they can just match it. If not, they may have to go higher than the MLE in the classic bidding against ourselves to keep the player happy bit.

Maggette to Mavs
would be a great move… but can’t teams with cap space still make a run for him?... (or am i understanding this all wrong)...

Thats Typical
The Spurs get Maggette….They didnt win the finals last year which means their due for one this year…..This always happens to the Mavs Always….I remember a few years ago the mavs could have made a deal for Rasheed…..This was in the Nellie and Big 3 days and one of the big 3 wasnt even involved ….its inevitable….Mavs have the curse of the bambino….They cant ever get the coveted FA or work the right deal….Its always the deal they should have made….The Spurs get Maggette we might get Finley ….dont like that scenario at all!!!!!!!!!!

Corey would be bored in SA
he just can’t go there.

I see him
more likely to go to Boston over SA as well… but still… At least give us a rumor that we are at least TRYING to go after him…

I cant wait to
hear the explanation for this one 6 months from now…
The only things I can think of is that we are targeting/working out a deal with someone better than/equal to him right now… like VC, Artest, Smith, Wallace, etc.
Still though… you dont get more of a bang for your buck than this guy for the the MLE… This is what is so puzzling. What has been the biggest hole on your team for YEARS, like pacific ocean status, suddenly can be resolved at a cheaper price than the 34 year old headache with two bad knees, who you’re paying more money too right now… and all we hear are crickets from the AAC?? Come on….

They've got to have something big cooking
Right?

At this point
it seems as though the “something big cooking” is Gerald Green…
Which is actually a GREAT signing, as long as it doesnt take from the MLE and it doesnt take their attention away from going after Maggette.
I just need to calm down about this Maggette thing… I know. One has to hope that he will listen to all offers before he signs with anyone… I just hope the Mavs aren’t the last.

At what point
does having Kidd not factor into this… I mean you could easily suggest to Maggette that he has made the likes of Carter, Jefferson, Marion etc. who they are today because of him alone…
by Toddy on Jul 1, 2008 11:36 PM CDT 0 recs
Oh and I forgot
K-Mart, and the huge deal he got when he was with Kidd and the Nets… now look at him since then in Denver

i seriously doubt
anyone gives a F other than younger unproven players.
if i were a FA, id rather try to win a ring with the spurs or celtics

true
but again, if Maggette is looking for a bigger paycheck down the road… especially just after getting burned in LA, who is going to help do that for him?
Rondo, Parker or Kidd?

True on both points
I like the Idea of Artest ….but he didnt opt out???? Kidd did make those guys better… probably thought that would be the case with Howard…Kidd is older now he made the las guy better 2 years ago and then became complaicant….if they are really trying to target VC or Artest what would be in it for either of those teams…i dont know i have a felling it gonna be diop….mavs will probably sign barry he just opted out lol…..i hope they get artest or maggette thats what we need and a good back up center … heack i would be happy with ratlif as a back up if they signed maggete or traded for artest better with diop though

Artest
immediately regrets that decision of not opting out... which leads one to wonder if he now doesnt demand to get out…

Also if we sign barry
and dont make any other moves at the sg position… that will leave us with Stack, JET, Barry Jones, Green and foster… GREAT

If that was true, no FA would EVER go to Orlando.

I'm excited about
the Gerald Green signing. He’s fun as hell to watch and is the high riser we need for this offense. J Kidd to Green lobs are gonna be Vince Carteresque.

I think its better than
that… even as its currently constructed… though portland will surely be in the playoffs next year, I think we have as good as chance as any of topping Denver, Houston, gs, and phx… all three of those teams have also not done anything to get better either, like us, and I still think we can run with any of them.

Diop back to Dallas for the full mid-level… This sucks.
This team is going nowhere. There better be something else in the works…

I don't know what to say....
Not even try and offer that to Maggette, who is a better player?
The Mavs can’t be this dumb…. Trade brewing, gotta be.
