Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Thanks to zkmavs for reporting this first... Imagine if we had done this for a second rounder, then had the full MLE to sign a quality SG. Words cannot describe the frustration right now...

The Los Angeles Clippers, exactly one week after finding out they had lost their face of the franchise, have rebounded with a significant trade acquisition.

The Clippers on Tuesday acquired Denver Nuggets center Marcus Camby as their replacement for Elton Brand.

The Clippers will only have to surrender a future second-round pick to acquire Camby, who is being jettisoned into the Clippers' salary-cap space vacated by Brand to generate payroll relief for the Nuggets.

Camby, 34, is coming off a productive season in which he averaged 9.1 points, 13.1 rebounds and 3.61 blocks for the Nuggets, who won 50 games to claim the final playoff spot in what is regarded as the most competitive conference race in league history.

But the Nuggets have yet to advance out of the first round with their Allen Iverson-Carmelo Anthony-Camby core and, according to sources, opted to shed the remaining two years on Camby's contract (worth nearly $15 million) to create the flexibility that could allow for more changes.

The Nuggets had the league's fourth-highest payroll last season and are required to pay $13,572,079 in luxury taxes for last season by July 23.

we could not have done this anyway…\

We would have to traded in order to get him…

Yeah, I was gonna say...

No way we could have pulled this off…

You do have to wonder though

if the Mavs even knew the Nuggets were looking to deal him before they signed Diop…

Doesn't matter

They did this deal to get under the luxury tax this season. There’s nothing we could have done to help them with that.

So is it fair to say

we wont see a lick of defense from Denver this year with Camby and Najera gone?

There just has to be more to this move than what has been reported.

Even though the Clips stole Camby… Kaman and Camby are going to be big bodies playing next to each other… and with Davis running the point, we could see a little bit of cp3 and west 2.0… but I dont see Kaman AND Camby playing well together with each other for some reason. Could they now be looking to move Kaman now?

I really, really don't see what they're doing...

For all his faults, at least Cuban isn’t willing to sacrifice wins in order to keep money in his pocket…

I wonder

if Anthony is available also?

But could

But could we have even done a trade with Denver? Hollinger basically thinks that the only teams in any position to pull this trade were the Clips and the Grizz. They were the only teams far under the salary cap and didn’t need to trade a contract away to get Camby. Denver did not want to take on any contracts for Camby. Seems strange, but the less they got for Camby, the better their situation is.

Doesn’t Camby have like a 10 million a year contract? how do you absorb that?

by ary201 on Jul 16, 2008 9:11 AM CDT reply actions

You can't absorb it.

Hollinger doesn’t “think” only the Clips and Grizz could have done this, it’s a fact.

Only a team 9 mil under the cap could have done this deal.
