Not much to report on out there thats Mavs related...

First off, the Mavs Summer squad had their first 3 hour practice yesterday, and Jeff Caplan seems to think that James Singleton has as good as shot as any at making the team this year.

Singleton, 26, opted out of his contract for next season with the Spanish team he played for last season to chase a second chance in the NBA. The 6-foot-8 forward, who played two seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers between stints in Europe, hasn’t signed a contract yet, but that could be coming.

"I feel very confident," Singleton said Monday after a three-hour first practice for the Mavericks’ summer-league team.

Gerald Green also was practicing with the team, and will participate at least through practices through Thursday in Dallas.  And then they are off to Vegas.

Eddie Seifko reports that Carlise is looking for 3 point shooters (really, more shooters, not slashers?), athletic and high energy guys.

"There are a lot of things that can happen between now and the end of October," Carlisle said. "I've lived it firsthand as a third-round pick who unexpectedly made it. We have certain needs. We need 3-point shooters. We need athleticism. We need young guys with high energy. And we've got some of that here."

Dwane Casey will take over as coach in the Vegas showing, and Stotts will take over in the Salt Lake one.  He also went on to report who the final guys of Ricks staff could be...

Staff nearly set: Carlisle said that Mario Elie is set as the No. 3 assistant and will be on the bench with Casey and Stotts. Also, Popeye Jones will be seated behind the bench during games and will have some game-preparation responsibilities, as well.

Poll
When Kidd joined the Mavs, Damps play and scoring increased significantly. Assuming the Diop deal is done, and Kidd remains a Maverick, what will Diop ppg be in the 08-09 season?
  • 2-3 ppg
  • 3-4 ppg
  • 4-5 ppg
  • 5-6 ppg
  • 6-7 ppg
  • 7+ ppg

Rodney Carney?

Another super-athletic, slashing option at SG?
