The Trade Idea Thread
The Mavs would be trading Shawne Williams, Stackhouse and Josh Howard to the Bucks for Michael Redd and Ramon Sessions.
In Sessions, you get a decent backup point guard to Kidd, as well as have him available to groom to be the future starter.
In Redd, the Mavs get a lights out shooter who can also attack the basket.
In our opinion (there are two people to use this profile, in case you didn't know), this is a great deal for the Mavs.
Give us your feedback on this trade.

this is a great deal for the mavs
but the Bucks prob dont have any room for JHo or Stack as they already have Jefferson and Villunueva.

Can we keep all "trade scenarios" in one massive thread?
Then we could just fire away consistently.
I’d like to see this deal made but I don’t really see why the Bucks would do it, it’s basically placing all the responsibilities at PG on pretty much one person, Luke Ridnour.
yeah thats true
but they do have Charlie Bell, Damon Jones and Tyronne Lue who are all capable backups for them. Whatever trade Dallas makes i’m pretty sure they will make some sort of deal pretty soon

This is...
Just a trade possibility we tested, although we know that the mavericks have taken alot of interest in Redd, so hopefully it will culminate.

Sessions is much better than you guys think he is.
He will probably end up being a starting point guard and most likely a good one. Redd is the Bucks best player and they could get the eighth spot in the East. I don’t think they would trade these two to get Howard, Stackhouse, and Williams. Though I would very much like to get Redd and Sessions.
I have witnessed time and time again.
Sessions
Is an All-Star waiting to happen, so much talent that gets very little time to shine.

Hmm.
…why? Why would Milwaukee do this, exactly? Getting cap flexibility is nice, but you have to have some value attached to it. Giving away a top SG and a nice young PG for what? The ability to decline Howard’s option or trade him in a year? Doesn’t make much sense to me.
They’d be better off swapping Jefferson and Sessions for Howard and Williams. That way, they shave off a year of heavy financial commitment for only the price of a talented, but probably not outstanding, young player.
Yes, but after a look at Jefferson's contract.
Dallas ain’t doing that trade.
I have witnessed time and time again.
I'm sure you're right.
I wouldn’t do either of those trades.

Not necesarily
If show’s good development to finish the year, you feel a lot better about letting Jason walk.

I'm much more a fan of Sessions than Redd
Just a little quote from ESPN’s performance coach David Thorpe:
“Ramon Sessions has terrific court sense and timing. He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Chris Paul on ball screen action, patiently reading the defenders but ready to make his move (pass, dribble burst, or shoot) in the blink of an eye. His on-court demeanor screams veteran, despite his age.”
Some trade scenarios...
DET gets cap relief for 2009 and 2010.
DAL gets rid of Howard and gets starters for SG and SF.
CHI gets rid of Hughes and Noc’s contract.
DAL gets rid of Howard and gets starters for SG and SF.
OKC gets cap immediate cap relief and a young (Bass) player in return.
DAL gets post presence with Collison.
MIN get cap relief for 2009 and a potentially good player in S.Williams.
DAL gets someone who can actually hit from the perimeter beside Dirk and JET.
MIA gets Howard and some cap relief for 2009. Could turn Green to something productive.
DAL gets someone to run with Kidd (they played with each other for one season I think) and Jones is a perimeter gunner.

So this is now the official thread for a "barrage of trade proposals"?
-I would be fine with that, I just wonder how Rip will decline and how much of an albatross that contract is eventually going to be. It’s going to cost Cuban a lot to have those two hefty contracts on board.
-Hell no. Hughes is awful and Nocioni and TT are average, plus the former two have bad contracts.
-I don’t really want to deal Bass for that contract Collison has, he’s not really a post threat.
-If we can get Mike Miller for Williams and Stack, that’s a good result for us. I don’t think he’s done yet.
-Again, don’t want anything to do with James Jones’s contract.
I don’t think Dallas should make themselves a deal that involves them taking on a big contract if they’re trading equal value. Not worth it.
JEFF TEAGUE TIME.
I guess this is THE thread. :)
- Point taken but Cuban is not the only owner/GM who wants bargains.
- Sub Hinrich for Noc?Hughes’ contract will expire in 2010.
- That’s the only way,IMO,that we’re getting Collison. How bout subbing Wilcox or J.Smith for Collison? That would be counter productive for OKC though since they both have expiring contracts.
- Kidd will do wonders for Miller.
- I think Jones’ contract has a team option (with non-guaranteed money) for 2010.

I'm not sure
About trading Bass i mean he is one of our most aggressive players and his mind set when he goes to the rim is to simply tear it off he is a pretty good defender and is young and is a great backup for Dirk. I dont think you trade that kind of talent and youth for collison were not feeling that trade

RJ/1st for Howard/Singleton?
Hey guys,
The only benefit of trading Redd is so you can re-sign Sessions/CV, so I don’t see them being packaged together unless you get a clear upgrade, which Howard isn’t. On the other hand, swapping RJ for Howard/expirings saves the Bucks $3.3 million next year that they can use to re-sign Sessions/CV. I’m not sure there’s much difference talent-wise, though I also don’t know if the Bucks’ 2009 first is enough for Cuban to bite on RJ’s bigger contract (dealbreaker?). The Bucks will likely shop the hell out of that pick if they have any hopes of keeping Sessions/CV.
The Bucks are in a weird spot because there’s a lot of pressure to make the playoffs and start regaining some fan support given the need for a new arena and empty seats. Yet the Redd/Bogut/RJ core obviously isn’t talented enough to be a real contender, so they’re caught in that purgatory between contention and rebuilding.
We have Villanueva and Sessions entering restricted free agency this summer, so there’s a pressing need to drop salary to avoid the tax. As it stands now, they can probably only keep one unless the tax jumps a bit from where it is now. And for a team that needs young talent, that’s a tough pill to swallow.
So the decision is to 1) move CV/Sessions for even cheaper talent (not easily done given they don’t make much as is) or 2) move CV/Sessions for veteran talent (difficult because you can’t aggregate their salaries alone into a vet salary) or 3) move one of Redd/RJ for cap relief so you can keep the young guys.
Yes, You're 1st rounder

The fact that we don't have hardley any contract obligations past 2010
And RJ does have talent, and is still fairly young.. Taking on his contract wouldn’t hurt too much.

Also
Why so much concern for CV? He’s definitely a nice player, and has enough talent to be a contributor on a really good team, but is he the guy you want to give the whole MLE to?
by brettgardner on Jan 23, 2009 2:44 PM CST up reply actions
Brett, that’s the six million dollar question. Personally, I don’t think he is consistent enough offensively or strong enough defensively to be a 35 mpg guy, and I don’t think Skiles and Hammond want to commit big money to him long term. I was perfectly fine with the rumored deal a few weeks ago about possibly moving him to Houston for Carl Landry. But in general moving him without taking a long-term deal is kind of tough. And in the short-term the Bucks would need a PF coming back since we’re so thin there.
I could definitely live with signing him to a $5-6 million deal for two or three years, but if he continues to play well it’s possible another team would offer him a bigger deal in the hopes that the Bucks are afraid too match. It’s also possible he takes the QO ($4.6 mil) and becomes unrestricted the following summer.

In reference to how good the Steelers have been in their history: "No one is even close to them."- Steal Home
It will give us a deeper bench
It would consist on a trade with the knicks. Yeah the knicks have there eyes set on J-Kidd and want cap relief and the mavs see that the J-Kidd experiment just didnt have its championship effect.
Mavs get:
Chris Duhon, Jared Jeffries and Eddy Curry
knicks get:
J-Kidd and James Singleton
For me it makes a lot of sense since Duhon is having a good year.He is averaging 12.6 ppg (4 more than J-K), 8.0 ast(.6 less than Kidd) and almost 4 rips( 3 less than kidd). He is younger and his contract runs out in 2010.
Jeffries should fit perfectly in the 3 spot. In him a see the defensive stopper that we need he can guard any position but he would come most handy for guarding somebody like kobe or even annoy cp3 and if it doesnt work his contract runs out in 2010.
The only bad thing is Ecurry may he can be solid backup and his contract runs out 2011
In my eyes we get more depth and we get a bit younger. It also allows us making a big splash for the 2010 free agent market and sign another superstar to play alongside dirk
After the trade the lineup should look like this:
1-Chris duhon
2-Josh howard(he can play the 2 spot you know it)
3-Jared Jeffries
4- Dirk
5-Erick “the biggest waste of money” Dampier
the bench:
J.J Barea
The jet but trade him anyway
Stack( he is still useful but trade him anyway)
BBass
Ecurry
NO!

- Mariners GM Bill Bavasi, after signing Ichiro to a $90 million contract
Hmm ...
Do you really think this is a good trade? First, you need to know that Duhon’s numbers are inflated by something like 20%. Because of the pace the Knicks are playing right now they have a lot more possessions per game and that makes everybody’s numbers go up close to that margin. For evidence, look at Quentin Richardson, Nash and Marion. I would rather have Kidd at 40 than Duhon at any age. He is a very good backup PG, not a leading PG.
Also, we all saw what happened when Josh played the SG position this year, he sucked a lot. Jeffries almost never is healthy, also he is close to Devean George’s level of offensive suckness (just made that word I think). And we have enough players that can’t score with consistency, we don’t need another. And by the way, he is not that great a defensive player. Maybe Curry could be of some use here as a center that can score with consistency when healthy. But we would need to put every car driver in Dallas out of his sight :P. To me, that trade would make the mavericks worse.
Kidd is playing at a high level and I don’t think our problems are there. Look at the teams that won championships and all that, they all don’t need a Chris Paul to win. They need a good balance of talent in all positions. Rajon Rondo is not a fantastic PG by any means, but the Celtics have Pierce, Allen and KG there, what I want to say is that, if you want to fill a hole in the mavericks start looking at the 2 guard and center positions. I think that all we need is a player like Mike Miller playing the 2. If we could find a way to get him trading something like Stack’s contract, Williams and Bass or anything close to that, maybe changing Bass for someone else, that would make the mavs contenders again. But it’s hard.
Nice try, but that would not help us, unless you want to start rebuilding and only wants to think about 2010, if that’s the case let’s go trade Dirk, Josh and Jet too.

we dont think kidd fr Duhon is a very good trade duhon is a solid player and we would love to get him if we did not have to give up kidd. yeah kidd is getting up there in age but he is still a great playmaker and 3 point shooter we think the people that need to be traded is stack and jho not kidd

This year 2009 draft Dallas own first round pick
Can’t trade this, under the Ted Stepien rule you can’t trade away first round picks in consecutive years (unless we would get someone else’s 2009 first round pick back in the same trade). In 2010 we have no first round pick again (Jason Kidd trade). We also don’t have second round picks.
2009 second round draft pick to Indiana
Dallas’ own 2009 2nd round pick to Indiana [Dallas – Indiana, 10/10/2008]
2010 first round draft pick to New Jersey
Dallas’ own 2010 1st round pick to New Jersey. [Dallas – New Jersey, 2/19/2008]
2010 second round draft pick to Indiana
Dallas’ own 2010 2nd round pick to Indiana, provided, however, that Dallas shall have the option to defer this pick until 2011 at which time Dallas would then send it’s own 2011 2nd round pick to Indiana [Dallas – Indiana, 10/10/2008]

Trading Dirk??
I had thoughts about trading Dirk earlier in the season to kick off the rebuilding process. After thinking about it, I cannot even believe that I would think of Trading him. He is without a doubt a top 5 player in this league. Without him we would be one of the worst teams in the NBA. We need to be patient this year and and add key players around him again the next two seasons. Look at what Boston did in a short period of time.
by mrichardson70 on Jan 25, 2009 1:41 AM CST up reply actions
Exactly...
Look how the Lakers rebounded once they get Gasol on the cheap, and how Boston all of the sudden went from worst in the league to best in one season. There’s always the possibility of that one trade happening that will put a team with a superstar that needs help, over the top. It seems like player movement like that would never happen, but recent history says otherwise. Dirk deserves to win his championship in the city he put his blood, sweat and tears into for the last decade.
Boston was able to turn it around because they had assets to trade
A good young center in Al Jefferson for Garnett and a top 8 pick for Allen. The Mavericks don’t have many assets.

two 1st picks
I think it really comes down to the picks. Jefferson is a nice player but he is not Garnett. Gomes is a role player at best to me. I think Minny was jammed up and did the best with a bad situation. Better then maybe could have been expected.

I pray that the MBT can get the right pieces here either this year or next to give the Mavs a fair shot at the championship WITH Dirk.
I cannot see Cuban (ever) trading Dirk away
epecially since he will not move JHoward (at least based on the latest Cuban reports)!

Yeah, I already asked about him and they wouldn't take Howard, Bass, and Green for him.
I read another post there about them trying to stay under the tax, so I don’t think they would take anyone who has a contract past this year besides, Howard.

Don't know if anybody's seen this
But the DMN runs down the Mavs’ commodities and formulates a couple hypothetical scenarios.
With the exception of Damp and Stack for O’Neal—and why would Toronto do that?—they’re all pretty vomit-inducing. It’s clear that big Ed values these Dallas players very lowly.
Case in point: Howard and Bass to Memphis for Conley and Darko….yep. Don’t get me wrong—I’d love to acquire Conley, but that’s just silly.

I like Law a lot.
Pachulia is a solid defender, which is about the only thing you can ask from centers, plus we get Claxton and a first rounder, I would take this deal. I don’t think the Hawks would trade Law, knowing that Bibby is a free agent. What about Marvin Williams and Pachulia for Dampier?
I have witnessed time and time again.
Never mind on my trade suggestion,
I thought Williams came off the bench for Atlanta, meaning that it wouldn’t be huge impact.
I have witnessed time and time again.
I would
They wouldn’t. Why do they need Damp? He helps out in the middle, and he’s still a salty rebounder, but I don’t think he’s the piece that puts them over the top by any means.

Even if that were so
That’d be a no-brainer 1st overall pick for me. Although I’m not sure where that’s coming from, since I’ve never seen Griffin shoot past 10-12 feet. His brother’s got the range in family from what I’ve seen.
by brettgardner on Jan 28, 2009 12:20 AM CST up reply actions
I've seen him knock down
a three…once. He’s 3-of-6 this season. His college mid-range game looks solid, but I’m not sure how that extends to the NBA
I don’t think he really has Boozer’s post game. From what I’ve seen, his post-ups are mainly to keep his defender in two minds so that he has the opening for a mid-range jumper or to drive in, he usually avoids post moves more complicated than a spin or a fake. I don’t think NBA defenders will give him what he wants as often as he has had so far.
Who knows enough to give Griffin a rating on defense? I can’t really tell whether he’s good enough to be considered a decent defender in the big league.
Elsewhere, I don’t see how you don’t make him a #1 pick. Guy’s a freaking beast: he’s ridiculously athletic, he gets out and finishes on the break, his rebounding skills are second to none, he’s unselfish and a leader. I haven’t seen the killer instinct yet but hey, I guess I have to wait until March. Man, I can’t wait for the tournament: the whole thing appears wide-open.

Make of this what you will
From Hoopsworld:
Moving Jason Kidd? Lets put the Dallas’ Mavericks record to the side for a moment. Functionally they are not a good basketball team. They are winning some games because they do have talent, but the team is not going anywhere fast and management knows it. The Mavericks have been one of the more aggressive teams in looking for a deal, and a recent conversation with a source very close to the situation revealed some interesting notes… Josh Howard and Rick Carlisle do not get along, the source said Howard is clearly in Carlisle’s doghouse and that the two are not on good terms, hence why Josh’s name continues to be tossed about in trade rumors. The other revelation that emerged this week is that Dallas may trade Jason Kidd before the deadline. A league source labeled moving Jason as the likely surprise deal of the trade season, which would be an interesting move for the Mavericks that is pretty easy to justify given Jason’s play. Kidd is owed $21 million this season, the last season on his deal. Kidd’s ending contract may be far more attractive than his value as a player, but it will be interesting to see what Dallas does with just 22 days to make a deal.
Poopsworld
They also already rumored this year that the Blazers had all but acquired Mike Conley (not happening), and just yesterday that we would move LaFrentz to Sactown for friggin John Salmons and Kenny Thomas/Miki Moore (why? Stupid contracts and no upgrade). So yeah, take everything they and Sam Smith and Peter Vecsey report with a big load of salt.
Oh, and can we retire the phrase “not going anywhere fast”?
John Salmons would upgrade them at the SF
til’ Batum is ready, and Kenny Thomas’ contract will expire after next year and be extremely valuable for teams going into the 10’ offseason.

As a Blazers fan, I have to disappoint you
Aldridge doesn’t leave Portland unless it’s for Amare or Bosh. Maybe Millsap, but probably not. That’s how high the team values him. Also they don’t need a multi-player deal, smaller deals make more sense. Josh Howard on his own might be interesting for his perimeter defense, but don’t expect more than a package around Outlaw or Webster and the expiring contract of Raef back.
Something like this, maybe, but either team might say no.

Meh...
After everything settles, it’s essentially a salary dump, and, if given a choice between dumping Howard for an expiring and dumping Howard for at least a talented young player (insert Conley or whomever else—not Felton), then I’d take the latter.
If there are no acceptable young players to be had, then I love that deal. Toronto would need at least something else, since they’re giving away huge relief for Howard, who, frankly, isn’t worth it. Bass or Barea, perhaps?
by brettgardner on Jan 28, 2009 5:38 PM CST up reply actions
I disagree
Hoopshype shows O’Neals contract running through next year. Even if it doesnt. there is no way Toronto needs more in that deal, since both conrtracts they are getting can expire next year, when they really need it. They’re getting the better 2 players, right now.

all i know is that
JO would give mavs the post scoring they so badly need… JO isn’t needed by raptures any more cuz of Barnarni’s play as of late. Parker is an extremely talented player who would give the mavs a scoring threat at the 2 guard and play defense against all of the great 2 guards that are in the west. Wright could start at the three if needed. JHO would be a great fresh start for josh and he would be bosh’s right hand man in Toronto.
Look at JO's game log this year
Not exactly a scoring threat, right now, and Parker is like 34.

it makes sense
the first trade would be great for both teams
Mavs get better cause hinrich eventually will bounce back and hes a good defeder( ask dwade)
larry hughes gives us a better sg cause hes a great finisher and a great defender(think washingtons larry hughes)
gooden gives us a deeper bench and can play the 5
it makes sense for the bulls cause it would give them some cap space and two mentors.kidd can teach d-rose a lot of things and stack will help those young wing players with his leadership
james singleton well another role player?
I wouldn't touch Larry Hughes with a 10 foot pole

dont forget about felton...
if augustine comes back playing like he was before he got injured then felton could find his way in a dallas uniform. Larry Brown Nose, dislikes felton as a pg and has a bromance on dj so dont be surprised.
Had a few beers, Got REALLY bored, this is the result...
Note: I do not think this is in ANY way realistic, but Hoopshype.com and ESPN’s trade machine are fun tools to waste the night with.

Dallas gets: Salmons, Douby
PG: Kidd, Bayless, Douby
SG: Fernandez, Terry, Carroll
SF: Howard, Salmons, Wright, Williams, George
PF: Aldridge

Trade #3:

Washington Gets: Josh Howard, Devean George
Dallas Gets: Andray Blatche, Etan Thomas, future #1
PG: Kidd, Bayless, Douby
SG: Fernandez, Terry, Carroll
SF: Salmons, Wright, Williams
PF: Aldridge, Blatche, LaFrentz
C: Dampier, Thomas, Hollins
Kidd, Lafrentz, Douby take $35.5 Million off the books after this year.
Thomas and Dampier take another $17 Million off after the 2009-10 season.
After the 2009 season:
Bayless- $2.9 Million
Fernandez- $1.25 Million
Terry- $10.6 Million
Carroll- $4.3 Million
Salmons- $5.8 Million
Blatche- $3.3 Million
Aldridge- $7.6 Million Qualifying Offer
Williams- $3.4 Million Qualifying Offer
That is roughly $28.15 Million in guaranteed money to 6 players (Bayless, Fernandez, Terry, Carroll, Salmons, Blatche). That would be $30 million under this year’s cap.
That leaves room to sign Aldridge long-term, pay your draft picks, fill in some roster spots, and be able to make a run at one of the big boys of the 2010 FA class with a talented roster in place.
PG- Bayless
SG- Fernandez, Terry, Carroll
SF- Salmons
PF- Aldridge
C- Blatche
Added to that would be the 2009 Mavs first rounder, 2010 Wizards first rounder, and possibly a 2009 or 2010 pick from the Blazers. Obviously some mid-level signings would fill out the roster as well.
Don't you ever damn call here again
If the Wizards gave us their first round pick this year, which they might do to try to stay under the tax,
I would make that trade.
I have witnessed time and time again.
The Wizards first-rounder this year
is pure gold if it ain’t lottery-protected. That’s very close to Blake Griffin, Earl Clark, Hasheem Thabeet, Ricky Rubio, etc.
JEFF TEAGUE TIME.
Howard for Etan Thomas, Brendan Haywood, and their first round pick this year.
The Wizards would have less salary committed to next, staying under the tax, and they would not have to trade any of their young/good players, unless you count the draft pick.
I have witnessed time and time again.
With the Wizards
They probably have no need for Howard unless they think he and/or Butler can play the 2. But, if they did show some interest, I think the Mavs would insist on Thomas (to match the contracts and he comes off the books in the magical 2010 offseason), Blatche/Young (good young talent), and a 1st rounder. The question is when that first rounder would be and how the protection for it would work.
Don't you ever damn call here again
This is what bulletsforever had as the lineup in their last game.
PG: Mike James
SG: Caron Butler
SF: Dominic McGuire
PF: Antawn Jamison
C: Darius Songaila
I have witnessed time and time again.
Washington won't improve as a team until they solidify the center position.

I would think having Howard and Arenas
instead of McGuire and James would improve their team. Center isn’t the only problem.
I have witnessed time and time again.
They've always been a team of guards
They won’t take the next step without a big man.

True that they won't take the next step with a big man,
but they will improve once Arenas comes back, whenever that is.
I have witnessed time and time again.
I know he plays there a lot
But in a perfect world, Jamison is not a 4.

Looks like they’re having a fire sale, too.
My best bet
