The Answer for the Mavs?

Here is another suggestion my brother an I have come up with for the potential blockbuster trade we are all waiting for the Mavs to make.

It's a Three-Team Trade between Atlanta, Dallas, and Charlotte, and it breaks down like this:

Atlanta Receives:

Josh Howard (via Dallas)

Erick Dampier (via Dallas)

Alexis Ajinca (via Charlotte)

Charlotte Recieves:

Zaza Pachulia (via Atlanta)

Jerry Stackhouse (via Dallas)

Marvin Williams (via Atlanta)

Devean George (via Dallas)

Dallas Recieves:

Joe Johnson (via Atlanta)

Gerald Wallace (via Charlotte)

Nazr Mohammed (via Charlotte)

In Joe Johnson, The Mavericks will finally get a starting caliber shooting guard to compliment Jason Terry coming off the bench. The two combined would make an excellent one-two punch.

Gerald Wallace gives the Mavericks a scorer who can also help on the defensive end.

The aquisition of Mohammed gives the Mavericks a center with the departure of Dampier.

Dallas'  lineup would end up as:

C Nazr Mohammed / Ryan Hollins

PF Dirk Nowitzki / Brandon Bass / James Singleton

SF Gerald Wallace / Antoine Wright / Gerald Green

SG Joe Johnson / Jason Terry / Matt Carroll

PG Jason Kidd / JJ Barea

What do you all think of this trade?

Hell of a trade for Dallas,

but Atlanta is not trading Joe Johnson.

I have witnessed time and time again.

Yeah.

That’s kinda what i thought. But they get a little younger with howard, who may cahnge/step-up his game if he’s traded to a team like Atlanta. They also want a rebounder/back-up big, which they can get with Damp. They could also move Horford to PF and start Dampier.

They do need Erick Dampier

But that trade is ridiculously f’ing Atlanta.

younger?

I don’t get the younger part… Johnson is younger than Howard by a year (and the better player, but w/e).

Thats...

why i said a little. And you never know, J-Ho could break out once he’s traded.

are you retarded?

so if howard is one year older than johnson, how exactly are they getting a “little younger?”

This.

And also, please try to consider the other teams’ needs/situation when formulating these deals. Don’t just try to make the biggest steal for the Mavs that you can.

For what it’s worth, I sure wouldn’t want those two guys together.

by brettgardner on Jan 26, 2009 11:46 PM CST up reply actions

Why...

Would you not want them together? It’s no different than Joe Johnson being with Josh Smith.

And it does make sense.

Atlanta gets a Big man who can rebound, which they need, allowing them to move horford to power foward.

And Josh Howard can play shooting guard and, though most won’t admit it, he is still a decent player who can score.

And Charlotte gets a center, as well as expiring contracts.

I just don’t undertand your theory of not wanting them together. It would give the Mavs alot of firepower.

NowitzKidd

by nowitzkidd on Jan 27, 2009 12:43 PM CST up reply actions

OK

I’ll put aside the fact that the trade is completely unreasonable and just answer your question.

I wouldn’t want them together because they’re both ball magnets, and we don’t need that when we already have a better player than either of them.

by brettgardner on Jan 27, 2009 2:05 PM CST up reply actions

who..

would you trade for then?

we’re just interested to know.

NowitzKidd

by nowitzkidd on Jan 27, 2009 2:10 PM CST up reply actions

And...

who would YOU trade for?

In truth, all I have observed from you are critcisms of others trade sugestions.

So, what is your solution for the mavs?

NowitzKidd

by nowitzkidd on Jan 27, 2009 12:57 PM CST up reply actions

I've been very clear

I would trade for young players, picks, expiring contracts, and only for a long contract where the player is relatively young and healthy.

Signing a bunch of quasi-All Stars isn’t going to make this team any better, not in the short term, and certainly not in the long term.

Get guys like Jeff Green, Sessions, Stuckey, Conley, Thabo Sefolosha, Batum, etc.

Get O’Neal and Moon.

by brettgardner on Jan 27, 2009 2:10 PM CST up reply actions

Well...

We agree with someone possibly like moon, sessions or stuckey, but O’Neal has been injured off and on throughout the season, and with that in mind, how would that help the mavericks?

And how would getting an all-star caliber player not help us? They are called all-stars for a reason.

NowitzKidd

by nowitzkidd on Jan 27, 2009 2:15 PM CST up reply actions

I want O'Neal

For his contract, not his production.

And mashing together All-Stars is no guaranty of success. I have no problem with getting very good players, but they have to be the right fit. For example, the big 3 in Boston all have very unique skills—there’s really no overlap there. But then you could look at Phoenix or us and see it doesn’t always work.

by brettgardner on Jan 27, 2009 2:18 PM CST up reply actions

Then who...

…in your mind, of all-star caliber, fits with the Mavericks?

NowitzKidd

by nowitzkidd on Jan 27, 2009 2:25 PM CST up reply actions

I don't know

Hamilton? The “All-Stars” I would want just have big expiring deals like Marion or O’Neal.

by brettgardner on Jan 27, 2009 2:28 PM CST up reply actions

Hamilton...

…could help, but what is the point of just getting player with expiring contracts if your not going to use them, and if the mavericks ultamite goal is to return to the finals?

NowitzKidd

by nowitzkidd on Jan 27, 2009 2:32 PM CST up reply actions

Sure that's the goal

But you have to also be realistic. I don’t think we’re a Joe Johnson away from winning the championship.

by brettgardner on Jan 27, 2009 2:33 PM CST up reply actions

The thing is

unless we make some sort of super-awesome-completely unpossible trade for a superstar, our chances of winning a championship are still holy shitfucked (or in English, very low). Adding a plain “All-Star” won’t do it.

by jonthefon on Jan 27, 2009 3:29 PM CST up reply actions

Even that trade was not as lopsided as it looked initially for some observers
  • They got Marc Gasol out of it, who has a significant impact as a starter and is posting good efficient numbers for a “rookie” which he is only by definition. His style fits their play and needs better than the finesse of his brother. He is also considerably younger.
  • They got Javaris Crittenton, who is a decent player in the mold of Steve Francis, but they decided to pass him along to Washington to get their own first round pick from the Navarro deal back. Always valuable to have that as a lottery team.
  • With the expiring deals of McKie and Brown, they saved a ton of cap space
  • Which will enable them to go after free agents in 09 and/or 10
  • They tanked, got a #5 draft pick, and managed to convert Kevin Love and Mike Miller into O.J. Mayo. That also is not that lopsided, but so far they look like the winner of that deal.

I’m probably forgetting something, but the result doesn’t look as bad as many people make it sound. Oh, they donated Pau Gasol to the Lakers, that’s so unfair, let’s all panic. Unfortunately the Suns and Mavs did since they had no better plan in place.

I’m still angry the Mavs (friggin Nick Fazekas) and Blazers (Josh McRoberts, Taurean Green, and never again heard of Demetris Nichols) passed up on Marc Gasol in 2007 and let him go to the Lakers, when you just had to watch the previous world championships to see he was an impact player. And international scouts probably knew about him for years and years.

by Norsktroll on Jan 27, 2009 8:05 PM CST up reply actions

Memphis also got 2 first round picks.

I’m with you, it’s not as lopsided as people think it is. I didn’t think it was that lopsided when I first heard of the deal.

With second round picks, I would take chances on guys like Gasol, because if you go will college players, they probably aren’t going to be good, that’s why they are second picks.I would go with foreign players, because their potential is higher.

I have witnessed time and time again.

You should call up Donnie and let him know about your idea for a deal…. let us know how it goes.

not today.

Why in the world would Atlanta want to do this??? I’m sorry, but these asinine trade scenarios are really a waste of time. If you’re going to make up dumb A trade crap why not just make up a 3 way trade involving the Lakers and SA and we end up with Kobe and Duncan. Makes about as much sense as this idea.

by DOH on Jan 27, 2009 8:41 AM CST up reply actions

It actually...

…does make sense, as we have already explained twice.

It has a foundation behind it, based upon some of the needs of the other teams.

And we, as mavs fans, should have the right to suggest trades that we think may work and could help the team.

We are allowed to speculate and dream. and this is not a trade that lands the Mavs Kobe, LeBron, Dwight, Bosh, Duncan, Chris Paul, and all the stars on one team.

It is a legit trade scenario that has just as much a chance of culminating as any other suggested trade.

Another trade that includes Dampier's contract...

And us not taking back one that’s equally bad…

Another “wishful thinking” proposal…

One day you will learn that Dampier's contract isn't bad at all

It will be expiring after next year, and he can certainly help any team who aquires him.

LOL…

And it doesn’t expire after next year… He’s still got some guaranteed money in 2010…

by N41D on Jan 27, 2009 2:48 PM CST up reply actions

And even if you don't think Dampier's contract is bad...

This is still a terrible trade proposal…

The Mavs trade Howard, Dampier, and Stackhouse and get back the two best players in the deal? Right.

by N41D on Jan 27, 2009 2:49 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, im not talking about this trade, it blows

Damps contract…

The last year of his contract, worth more than $13 million, is conditional on Dampier playing in three All-Star games in the first six years of his contract OR playing 2,100 minutes in a minimum of 70 games during the 2009-10 season.

Neither condition will occur.

Well...

Then I concede to Dampier’s contract…

I was under the impression it was like Stackhouse’s, where some of the money was guaranteed and some was voidable based on those conditions…

I think they would have to be knocked off their feet to trade Butler.

Where do I sign? :P ...

Now that is a good proposal. I don’t know if the Wizards would do it but that trade with Bass is well balanced. Wizards and Mavs would be receiving close value in the quality of the players. And Butler would be really great here. Stevenson sucks, but we are used to it, we have George.
