It always has been Popovich’s style. It just comes down to the players actually buying into what’s being barked at them.

What happened out there is far beyond that. We’ve had problems on defense all season, relying on it only when things are really winding down. Can’t do that against good teams.
It's a personnel problem
Has to be. Carlisle can coach defense. If you have Dirk and JET on the floor together, you have to have legit defensive stoppers with them. Kidd is one. Damp is so-so. Josh forgot that he could be.
And I don’t know about you, but I hate that we’re playing small. Seriously, our opponents tower over our second lineup. No defense, no rebounds, only the occasional hustle. Can’t blame Carlisle though because Diop is a lemon.
Volume jumpshooting is another issue
The problem is masked when the shots go in, but we are not aggressive enough on offense.
I hate to bring this up again, but I saw that Spurs game last night. Dirk’s first points (on the first possession, no less) was a dunk. He also mixed it up by going inside and shooting outside. He even had a hook shot in there. Josh was vintage, attacking and rebounding and staying active. What happened to all of that…where did that go?
I remember when he started off with that dunk.
I knew good things were coming. We forgot how to attack the basket.

Do you guys think that the players are getting discouraged from going inside because the fouls aren’t called? Do they think, “Why put in all this effort driving to the hole when I won’t get the call?”
I know i would be discouraged.
After all you’ve been through with the no calls in the finals, and all the stuff that happens in regular season games. I would be a bit jaded.

diop signing
was the backbreaker for me. I saw it coming the day he was signed. Diop has been a lazy fuck his entire career since he came out of high school other than for the last year and a half before his contract expired. Even then, he was no more than a backup center.
This team sucks but can you imagine it with Roger Mason and some random spare at Center instead of Diop?
