Mavs vs. Wizards pre-season game thread

Mike Miller has blonde hair and a headband.  Deshawn Stevenson has a tattoo of Abe Lincoln on his neck.  Stevenson is mad that Miller wears LeBron James shoes.  There's a player on the Wizards who sort of looks like Stewie from Family Guy.  Gilbert Arenas is back.  Flip Saunders is the new coach.

Jason Kidd stepped on someone's ankle during practice; it is only a minor injury.

I can't even talk about the Wizards in 75 words...

Let's go Mavs!

Matty starts again

Marion and Drew Gooden are starters as well, along with Kidd and Dirk

Kidd to Marion for an easy layup

That’s something I’d like to see often

Kidd for 3

A real one, none of that toe shit

by Marie on Oct 9, 2009 6:19 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

We go on a nice run to take a one point lead

Dirk has 8 so far in the first quarter

by Marie on Oct 9, 2009 6:20 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Carroll misses a 3

And Damp misses a layup…he actually made that shot a lot harder for himself…should have just dunked it.

Yes, haha

But I have to get League Pass…I don’t want to rely on online feed for the games.

I'm not sure, but it's much less

I think League Pass costs so much because you can also get the games online, but if you just get the broadband one, you’re restricted to just watching it on your computer

Funny, everyone is broadcasting pre-season games, but the Blazers calculated it wouldn't be economically viable

Fearing fewer people would buy tickets to the game, not so much the cost of TV production. They have to provide a signal for the jumbotron and NBA.com highlights anyway.

Did they say why they didn't play Josh tonight?

Funny starting lineup contrast between the Wiz and the Mavs btw. Nice to see that they can already win like this, although it’s pretty meaningless.

Josh is probably still recovering from surgeries

According to the DMN blog, Rick said that Josh will probably play in the later pre-season games.

quite well and yourself?

I only caught the first half. Stupid stream cut off after that. Marion looked so great!

by ptrck on Oct 9, 2009 8:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fans of other teams don't believe me that he will help ;)

Heck, his best time is probably behind him, but he can play 2 positions on offense and 3 on defense which makes him easily more valuable than anything else they could have got. And it cost virtually nothing but money. Well, and Wright, if that counts.

I really love that he's effective without the ball

excellent D, rebounds, hustle, scoring mostly from fastbreaks and putbacks… it’s not like he’s having plays drawn up for him. He’ll be great for us, hope he stays healthy the rest of the year.

Glad it’s the weekend; it’s been a long week for me.

Marion looked awesome!

I know, I'm excited

Definitely going to see the Mavs when they’re in town. Looks like the minor calf injury isn’t bothering him.

Last season something in Minny went really wrong. Telfair who can’t shoot started taking the outside shots, and Miller who can’t facilitate much started handling the ball and turning it over.

A player where fans who have seen him play before aks “why? Why did you have to do that?”

We got the original. Woot woot :-(

Am I wrong? I haven’t seen enough of either guy to make a truly fair assessment, but to me they are similar

Wow, really...

I hope Oden will improve this season…he needs to stay injury-free.

by Marie on Oct 9, 2009 8:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Much quicker in pre-season, much improved free throw shooting, soft touch with either hand, doesn’t commit as many silly fouls even with replacement refs calling the game. Only the vert isn’t back yet, but some pundits who thought they had seen the finished product are in for a surprise. He will be a rebounding and defense monster sooner rather than later. Tonight vs. the Clippers might be a good indicator vs. Kaman, Camby, Griffin. But I can’t watch it. Will have to wait for recaps.

Not in pre-season, but quite a number during the season.

They have one in Seattle and one in Vancouver, not sure if some station will show those.

Does anyone know why

this game was advertised (other pre-season games are too) to be broadcast tonight on HdNet and then are not shown on there? Talk about being PO’d. Why advertise if it’s not broadcast? GRRRRRRRRRRR
By the way, I’m glad the MAVS won, just wish I could’ve seen it as promised.

I was at the game. He looks VERY promising.

What were we comparing him to?

If he played like, say, Mario Chalmers in his first year when coming off the bench, I think I’d take that to start off. Threes and steals and some speed.

Could he end up a Tony Parker-lite, with a better three-point shot? (lazy comparison, I know).

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

you mean the aforementioned "darker tony parker" ?

"There were arms coming from everywhere, and I knew they weren’t going for the ball," Miller said. "I was just trying to get [the shot] up before they called some crap like ‘on the ground.’ "

"What do you want me to do?" Wright asked. "Do you want me to Derek Fisher him?"

"Give them some fucking credit, i mean for real." Jackson said.

"I just fell on my face for no reason," Bryant deadpanned. "I'm a klutz."

"Fucking right i'm preachin' it!" Carlisle replied.

"Rough life, isn't it. It's tough all over, isn't it." Smith chuckled.

I hope he turns into something this league hasn't seen before

a combination of Barbosa’s 3 point shooting, Devin Harris’ speed and ability to score in the lane, Chris Paul’s passing and the shutdown defense of a Chauncey Billups.

But I don’t expect it. I just expect him to bring some strong defense, athleticisim and speed off the bench with the ability to create shots for himself and others and hit open 3’s. The “Yang” to Jason Kidd’s “Yin.”
