Developmental Dallas
Hey guys. So i was just watching the Mavericks taking on the Spurs Wednesday, and i thought of something that made me think a bit....
Note: I am VERY aware that this could probably come from me watching 70+ Maverick games a year, as opposed to like 10 of the 2nd highest team. So me watching them, plus me LOVING them could make me biased.
Having said that-
I think that Dallas produces a lot of rising stars. And i think we develop a lot of young talent(Once again i know im a little biased but listen!). Take a few of my Examples:
J.J. Barea- He isnt big by ANY means. But he did have some explosive games last year, and got a reputation for an instant offensive player off the bench. So again, not great, but hes from NorthWestern, and im pretty sure nobody ever expected him to dress up for an NBA game.
Beaubios- Drafted low, but has had an explosive start to his NBA career. Still too early to tell but its a thought.
Brandon Bass-not huge, but he had some key plays in the playoffs against the Hornets and Spurs, and he landed himself a nice contract. This guy used to get 2 minutes a game for a few years in NO(back when NO sucked) before coming alive in Dallas. Again not great, but he was a NOBODY.
Antawn Jamison-We made him a 6th Man of the year and he went on to be the Wizards Leader!
Dirk-Out of Europe. shooting big man. Low expectations(HE WAS TRADED FOR TRACTOR TRAYLOR!!!) and he got an MVP.
Kidd-This guy SUCKED before getting to us. Literally not worth a 2nd round draft pick. We made him!!!
A. Walker-Had his best years with us. He left and disappeared, never having another good year(unless you count his years in Miami, which dont measure up to the ones in Dallas)
Nick Van Exel= " "
J-Ho- 29th pick in the draft. If there was a re-draft he'd prob go 4th after Wade, Bron, and Anthony
I could anem more but ive made my point. The only teams i can think of in the past 5 years that have "produced" players liek we have is the Lakers. With Sasha(he was a scrap) and Farmar(out of UCLA, but he has potential to be great) and few others.
Also take note unlike most teams that "produce" players, Dallas gets foreign, undrafted, and unheard of guys. Im not counting guys like LeBron who got picked 1st.
Thoughts? Im open(and love) constructive criticism. Am i being Biased, or do you guys agree Dallas is a good developmental team?

I swear that you're a bot.
There’s so much wrong with this post it isn’t funny.

Jason Kidd sucked before he came to us?
Huh? We drafted him… Second overall… And then he went elsewhere and became a Hall of Famer before coming back…
Antawn Jamison was a very quality NBA starter before he came here… 6th Man of the Year was a step down for him… His year here was arguably the worst of his career…
Antoine Walker and Nick Van Exel had their best years here? LMAO.
What exactly have we developed JJ Barea into? A quality backup NBA point guard? I’m not sure you get a ton of credit for that…
Josh Howard wouldn’t go 4th in that 2003 draft, either…
The reason we’re at the point we’re at right now with a boatload of old, expensive veterans, little or no young homegrown talent, and likely to be in for a looong rebuilding process when this thing finally wears down is because we’ve drafted like hell aside from Josh Howard and Devin Harris this decade… Roddy remains to be seen…

I was planning to post this earlier...but chose not to. Anyway, extra points:
Just because the Mavs pick up a guy and turn him into someone who can fit into a rotation doesn’t make them a star.
Dirk and Nash, yes. I’ll give you that, but any moron could observe that. But “low expectations”? He dunked on Barkley, he scored a shitload (something like 33/14) at some Nike basketball camp playing against Rashard Lewis and Al Harrington, Nellie said he would be “Rookie of the Year”.
JJ’s going to be a useful role player as a change-of-pace guy, but he’s hardly a star. Too small, a little too slow, one-dimensional.
Roddy B is too early in his developmental stage to make judgements on him.
Bass: role player. Useful but not a starter-type. Have fun with him and Gortat, Orlando.
Jamison became a really good scorer in Golden State, we dealt NVE and scraps for him. He was “only” a sixth man here because of how badly we actually built that roster (i.e. no center, no role players), so technically his role was reduced and he went right back to a high-level scorer in Washington.
What the fuck are you going on about with Toine? He was here for one fucking season, before that, he scored 20ppg in Boston alongside Paul Pierce and while attempting 8 threes a game. Somehow made three All-Star teams.
I’ll fill it in for you. NVE got the spotlight in LA and was pretty impressive there until he started bickering with Shaq and his coach. Then he got dealt to an awful Denver team, put up very good statistical seasons there. In Dallas, he was one of the best sixth men in the league, but he got here when he was 30. Hooray for his rising stardom!
Josh? I’ll agree with you, he and Devin are perhaps the most recent two players we’ve actually developed into something. But #4 in that draft? Aren’t you forgetting some guy in Toronto? David West is probably better than J-Ho.
I can’t say anymore. This post is beyond retarded. I won’t chew you out for the Kidd joke, but I wouldn’t have been surprised that it wasn’t sarcasm, considering what you said about NVE, Jamison and Fatoine.
The Lakers? Ahahahahahaha. Sasha Vujacic? Bench fodder/shooter. Jordan Farmar? Nothing more than a back-up point guard right now. You could’ve said Bynum…
Dallas is no more of a talent factory than anyone else, but that may only be because they’ve had limited opportunity in the draft for almost a decade.

Bosh would go well before J-Ho
Among others. Marvin Williams?

Marvin Williams?
Wasn’t he #2 in 2005?

Correct...
Wade
Bron
Melo
Bosh
West
Mo Williams
Kaman
Hinrich
Outlaw
Perkins
Howard is a hell of a lot closer to that second group than the first…

Mostly because of injuries and off-court issues
If he had had a healthy career, he would have been closer to the top group. He was such a steal.
Anyway, this post is absolutely meaningless.

Even if he was healthy...
He’s not a perennial All-Star… He’s a good NBA starter that probably shouldn’t be your team’s second best player…

Luckily for us
He’s not our second best player.

^
Ever heard of those San Antonio Spurs? They do the same thing, every good franchise in this league has done this pretty much.
@n41d, If Howard was healthy, I’d say he was closer to those first group. The second group are more role players that are more of 12 point per game players. Howard’s at least an 18 point per game player. The injuries have slowed him down for now. He’s just not in that group right now because we have a guy named Dirk who plays the role that those four guys do.
