Early look at the '09 FA class

ESPN posted the Free Agent list for the next two years...

Quick thoughts:

Why the hell did we give Devean George a player option for next year?

The Pistons have Iverson, McDyess and 'Sheed coming off the books.

How are Calvin Booth and Kevin Ollie not only still in the league, but on the same team?

--

Mavs FAs: Hollins, Kidd, Green, Bass and Singleton

The big names seem to be Shawn Marion, Boozer (if he opts out), every single player on the Knicks, Lamar Odom, Artest, Iverson/Sheed, Kidd, Andre Miller, Ben Gordon and a bunch of Hawks: Bibby, Childress and Marvin Williams.

Wally Szczczczczcerbiak might be a good option too, if he doesn't re-up with the Cavs. Everyone's favorite herpes-ridden PF is available too.

Also, why the hell did we give Devean George a player option for next year?

Maybe George would get to play in Washington.

Because I would like to trade him and Stackhouse for Thomas, Stevenson, and their first round pick.

I have witnessed time and time again.

I'm fine

With giving Kidd 2 years plus a team option.

Bass is a consideration; I’m torn between thinking he will be overvalued and the certainty that this is one of the worst years to be a free agent, considering ’10.

Teams, including Dallas, will have some nice pickings and some depressed prices, I think. May require more years, however.

I'm not even sure Kidd would want more than 2 years

He made some comments recently about going overseas that seemed to indicate he’d be OK leaving the league sooner than later.

But, yeah, I’d definitely give Kidd 2 years if the price was right.

Nash

The Suns have a team option for Nash. As Wes said on the front page, there might be an oppurtunity for a sign and trade if the Suns have financial issues.

Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!

Good for PR

Terrible for our basketball team.

I thought Boozer already said he's opting out

I read that Detroit could be interested in signing him.

"Fun" and "Failure" both start out the same way.

Yeah, he did

Utah wasn’t too happy about it.

I've always liked Ramon Sessions, ever since one of my high school teachers said

2 years ago that this guy will be a stud. I liked to steal him from Milwaukee. Maybe we could get Anthony Parker, Marquis Daniels, Marvin Williams, or Linas Kliza by giving them a big one year deal.

I have witnessed time and time again, no not Dirk, J. J. Barea.

Marvin Williams will be getting paid this offseason

Linas will most likely be getting a long term deal somewhere as well.

What is Milwaukee gonna do with Villanueva

It’s similar to the situation the Sixers faced with Iguodala. It would be wise to let another team overpay, but will they have the courage to let him walk for nothing?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to my numbers the Mavs stand at $71 million even when letting Kidd go

That makes it kinda hard to attract free agents who command more than the MLE. And even keep Bass, who might have Early Bird rights (so you can offer him the average league salary) but not Bird rights (just two years since switching teams).

Regarding 2010,

I wondor if guys like Bosh could be aquire via sign-andt-trade. After the 2010 draft we would be able to trade future first round picks.

S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

It seems in reality the Mavs would be better off

making the big roster moves between this offseason and next year’s deadline.

They have Stack’s $7 million to move
Damp’s contract will become a very valuable expiring deal
They actually own their draft pick for 2009
They will have the mid-level available.
There is always the possibility of moving Josh

Stack, Damp and Josh could all bring back valuable pieces and the 2010 FA class is a unicorn anyway. This offseason could be similar to the overhaul that brought in Jamison, Damp, Walker, Terry and eventually led to Stack and Devin Harris.

Should say the overhaul that brought in Jamison, Walker

and eventually led to Damp, Terry, Stack, and Devin

Jamison nor Walker

where part of the trade that brought Dampier over here.

S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

I'm really just talking about that 2 year stretch

where the face of the team was overhauled…that was a chronological listing (i think) not necessarily these guys were traded for those guys.

Don't you ever damn call here again

by SaltyDawg on Mar 12, 2009 12:32 AM CDT up reply actions

Uh...

NVE and pieces traded for Jamison and pieces
Raef and pieces from Jamison deal traded for Fatoine

03 offseason after Kerr buried a number of daggers into our hearts.

Walker brought Terry
Jamison got us Stackhouse and Devin
Dampier was signed.
Nash left for Phoenix.

All were part of that 04 offseason after the Mavs were cleaned up by the Kings. It was a great overhaul though, effectively reloaded us for a run by getting rid of a couple of older guys (Nash 30, NVE was getting up there and had a fat contract) for fresh blood.

Unfortunately, overhauling is tougher now with the space we’ve got and plus back then, Dirk was still young. He’s going to head down the hill soon.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
