Aw, that sucks

Not the Dallas broadcasters

I can't wait to see Kidd run the show.

I fell asleep super early on monday, and didn’t see the miami game because I was asleep.
The highlights of the games have been pretty badass. GO MAVS!!

by bruce182 on Feb 4, 2009 7:35 PM CST reply actions

I hope I'm not the bad luck of the team ...

I haven’t watched the last three games .. only parts of the miami one … If we play bad tonight, I will not watch anymore :P

by hugommorais on Feb 4, 2009 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

Not at all.

I blame it on school and staying up all night thinking about the Mavs winning a championship :p

by bruce182 on Feb 4, 2009 7:38 PM CST up reply actions

You need to drink more coffee

Or maybe not…it’s bad for you.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 7:43 PM CST up reply actions

Well ...

If I can find a feed to watch the game I’ll be fine …

by hugommorais on Feb 4, 2009 7:35 PM CST reply actions

Take that Oden!

Skin is back

I’m sure you guys love that.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 7:42 PM CST reply actions

Whoo!

Kidd with the old Nash, Dirk move.

by bruce182 on Feb 4, 2009 7:44 PM CST reply actions

Carlisle's tie

Not the greatest pattern.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 7:45 PM CST reply actions

If this turns out to be a blowout (doubtful)

That would be great, since we play again tomorrow, on the road.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 7:47 PM CST reply actions

Right move by Josh

Results in a turnover, though.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 7:56 PM CST reply actions

did anyone see his comment today

or maybe it was made in the past few days?

by mrichardson70 on Feb 4, 2009 7:58 PM CST reply actions

About the vowels and consonants?

Or the one about how he never wants to leave Dallas and loves this team?

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 7:59 PM CST up reply actions

We need to win tonight ...

Hornets, Nuggets, Rockets, Lakers all losing …

by hugommorais on Feb 4, 2009 7:59 PM CST reply actions

he said he thought the Mavs

shouldnt trade him and that they had enough talent to win.. hmmm i guess i wouldnt want to go to G.S. or Toronto either!

by mrichardson70 on Feb 4, 2009 7:59 PM CST reply actions

I think it was mentioned on DB.com (I think that's where I read it)

That Carlisle has quietly tightened the roster to eight guys.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:03 PM CST up reply actions

That's good

It’s looking like the SG starting spot is Wright’s.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:04 PM CST up reply actions

are you a fan of wright

i kinda expected more, he seems older then he really is.

by mrichardson70 on Feb 4, 2009 8:06 PM CST up reply actions

I don't have a valid opinion of him right now

He’s pretty active, which is great, and is not bad on defense. Would you rather Gerald Green start at that spot? Or George?

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:08 PM CST up reply actions

I think from a starting position

Dampier fills his position better then Wright does at SG. Problem is that there really isn’t a back up center right now and Terry as the 6th man is clearly a front runner for 6th man of the year. Toss up I guess!

by mrichardson70 on Feb 4, 2009 8:18 PM CST up reply actions

so is Baron but there are rumors about him

I would rather leave Baron and his big contract alone

by mrichardson70 on Feb 4, 2009 8:25 PM CST up reply actions

There are rumors about Maggette too

Or were, at least. He’s another injury-prone player.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:27 PM CST up reply actions

Huge risk

Confidence? Cockiness?

It’s something the Blazers have been sorely lacking, without falling back into a time of outright dirty players

Portland is going to have to put

Aldridge back in soon.. Dirk can handle Oden on D and Outlaw can’t cover him on O

by bbob on Feb 4, 2009 8:18 PM CST up reply actions

Nice of these guys to address Jameer's injury

I hated seeing that. It’s a long shot, but I hope David Lee replaces him.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:22 PM CST reply actions

I think everyone feels bad for him...

He was having a great season, and Orlando is the most likeable team in the East

by bbob on Feb 4, 2009 8:26 PM CST up reply actions

We (as in us Magic fans) are not quite in doom and gloom mode yet

But we’re not as confident in our chances now in the post-season.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:26 PM CST up reply actions

If Johnson could consistently play like he is tonight...

And you can get one more player to step up… you should be as confident as you like.

by bbob on Feb 4, 2009 8:28 PM CST up reply actions

That’s like a once in a lifetime game for No Neck Johnson.

This year, if it yells AND1 it’s B-Roy. Hopefully just a phase to establish a reputation with the refs. Dirk did it for some time.

by bbob on Feb 4, 2009 8:42 PM CST up reply actions

I don't have any horror flight stories, thankfully

I’ve had relatively tame flights, though I hate turbulence. I get motion sickness, so I have to wear the wrist thingies.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:43 PM CST up reply actions

Wrist thingies?

You mean handcuffs? Ooh kinky, haha.

by bruce182 on Feb 4, 2009 8:46 PM CST up reply actions

No, haha

It’s these wrist bands with like this plastic piece on them, and the plastic thing rests on some kind of pressure point on your wrist that prevents the motion sickness.

by BlazersOrBust on Feb 4, 2009 8:32 PM CST reply actions

Pathetic effort by the Blazers so far

Just pathetic. We have the worst defense in the league among good teams, and it isn’t even close.

63% for the half

That’s beyond pathetic. They may as well not even be playing defense with those kinds of percentages.

Mavs are playing very well, for sure

but Portland has a way of making opposing offenses look great. The Blazers win a lot of games with their offense, but the D is consistently terrible.

Boomshakalaka

by jksnake99 on Feb 4, 2009 8:39 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

I find other blogs have a higher tolerance for my LMA and Blazer D bashing. I’ll go back to “full time” posting on BE soon, but I think I may hang out in opposing game threads for a while longer.

Boomshakalaka

by jksnake99 on Feb 4, 2009 8:42 PM CST up reply actions

I read that LMA has anger issues

Trust issues, to be more accurate. There was an incident in which Roy (?) forgot to invite him to a team dinner or something, and then LMA didn’t speak to Roy for a while.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 8:47 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

That story on ESPN was the first I’d heard of it. Aldridge is apparently a bit of a loner, hesitant to put trust in anyone.

I really like Aldridge the kid, I just really dislike his game. He’s a bad defensive rebounder, a below average defender, doesn’t draw fouls and relys on jumpers way to much (that’s ok if you are a great shooter like Dirk, but not if you are a merely pretty good shooter like Aldridge). Aldridge is an above average player, but not the star most Blazer fans think he is.

We only needed a split of DAL/NO, now we just need to take OKC down on Friday for the winning trip.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:06 PM CST up reply actions

our entire offense is predicated off the two man game with Roy and the point guard

who sits in the corner waiting for the pass. WIthout that, the defenders can help onto Roy, no problem.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:13 PM CST up reply actions

And Roy can't do it all

Good bench production tonight, though.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:14 PM CST up reply actions

yeah...

Bayless is coming along… he’s played the equivalent of nine full games at this point. He just makes too many rookie mistakes. Blake is steady and hits the three, something we need in a bad way right now.

No excuses though. We lost this game, flat out.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:16 PM CST up reply actions

No one to play defense against the point against the quick guards

although I’m not sure anyone is worse than Sergio. Bayless’ D is alright, but he makes rookie mistakes constantly.

I guess it’s a viable option… I tend to think Pritchard is showcasing Sergio.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:19 PM CST up reply actions

I thought I heard/read that he's on the block

I must ask, though, when Oden will be consistent. His numbers tonight were not great. I liked it better when Przybilla started instead.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:21 PM CST up reply actions

Actually the biggest problem with Blake being out

is that he is the one guard on the team who knows how to feed the post. Oden is ridiculously efficient once he gets the ball in position, but no one can get it to him…

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:22 PM CST up reply actions

That's sad

How long is Blake out? Will he be back before the All-Star break?

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

hopefully his shooting remains good

a separated shoulder can mess with a player’s form.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

Great

That’s reassuring, since that’s also Jameer Nelson’s injury…

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:26 PM CST up reply actions

Didn't he hurt his labrum?

I think Blake’s is much less severe. It was the lowest grade of shoulder separation.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:27 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

The thought of him being replaced at the ASG sickens me, not to mention how this injury will affect the Magic the rest of the season.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:28 PM CST up reply actions

they were doing so well

and it all goes down the tubes… it really is sad.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

Jameer tore his

muscle off the bone.

Blake just dislocated his shoulder. Then he came back a couple games too early and reinjured it. But it is not serious like Nelson’s.

Same injury as Raef

Don’t want to scare Magic fans, but that could take some months of time to heal and ultimately he will need the surgery.

by Norsktroll on Feb 4, 2009 10:31 PM CST up reply actions

I honestly thought Jameer decided on the surgery

But now I’m hearing that he’s just doing the rehab, so I don’t know what’s going on.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:33 PM CST up reply actions

Raef did that all summer, but in the end it didn't work

Jameer is younger, but no surgery leaves the shoulder very susceptible to re-injury. One big pick or grab of the arm could dislocate it again.

by Norsktroll on Feb 4, 2009 10:36 PM CST up reply actions

Understandable

You guys don’t call him a bust over at BE, do you?

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

...

What do you think?

Karma

by Sabonis4Ever on Feb 4, 2009 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

Well....I would question anybody who calls him a bust after 40 games

When he has not played for a year and a half before that, and coming off microfracture surgery. We see flashes of greatness. His biggest problem is foul trouble and inconsistency. And we run 0 plays for him and force him to guard guards on the pick and roll.

Karma

by Sabonis4Ever on Feb 4, 2009 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

It's more on the point guards

he is 280 pounds. He can’t guard Chris Paul one on one.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:32 PM CST up reply actions

That's what is so frustrating

Oden in foul trouble isn’t surprising when he’s let down by his perimeter defense constantly.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:35 PM CST up reply actions

At least he's not playing tentatively

Like he’s afraid to get hurt again. I haven’t seen enough Blazers games to know this, but is he easily intimidated by the other bigs in the game (like Garnett, Duncan, etc.)?

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:38 PM CST up reply actions

The best thing about this year

is that he takes no crap from anybody. He stood up to KG really well… I think it was Ric Bucher that remarked he was incredibly impressed by Oden not giving anyone an inch.

He also gave Ray Allen a hard foul that swung the game… i’ve been more than happy with that part of his game.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:39 PM CST up reply actions

That's good

As long as he’s not dirty or a jerk. He seems like a cool guy off the court.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:42 PM CST up reply actions

Nah, he's a super nice guy.

Does a lot in the community that goes unreported… he has said that he loves games where opposing centers want to get physical down low. It’s not that he’s dirty, he just loves a good physical battle.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

The opposition has no effect on him

The only thing holding him back is fouls, and his full athleticism has not returned yet. And we run no plays for him.

Karma

by Sabonis4Ever on Feb 4, 2009 10:41 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, probably so.

It’s on the guards and on Nate… we’re not used to playing with a center who can score.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:46 PM CST up reply actions

nah

Hollinger recently said Oden is the best rookie, even at 50-60% athleticism like he is at right now, per David Thorpe.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:26 PM CST up reply actions

Better than Rose?

Or Mayo, my personal favorite

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:28 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

if you pace adjust (Blazers have the slowest pace in the league), I’m pretty sure he’s nearly averaging a double double already…

A question, just wondering if someone saw it differently

when Dirk was fouled by Bayless in the closing seconds, the clock was at 7.7 seconds. When he missed the free throw, it was 7.0 seconds. If it was a whistle before the inbounds, how did time disappear?

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:09 PM CST reply actions

Cuban ordered it ...

Just Kidding … i didn’t see it.

by hugommorais on Feb 4, 2009 10:10 PM CST up reply actions

I didn't notice that

Maybe I can find it on league pass broadband…the game should be up.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:11 PM CST up reply actions

Damn it

It’s not available for me, sorry. I guess because the game was on NBA TV.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:15 PM CST up reply actions

ah

The NBA blackout rules don’t make much sense, especially the crazy zones and rules for national broadcasts. Very annoying.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:16 PM CST up reply actions

I'm moving to Seattle later this year

and the Blazers are blackout out on NBALP there. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s 180 miles from Portland, in a different state.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:20 PM CST up reply actions

That's crazy!

You’ll have to hunt for justintv links every game, then. You should maybe e-mail someone in the NBA to ask about why that is.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:22 PM CST up reply actions

it's because

the Sonics moved, so evil Comcast petitioned the NBA and got them to consider Seattle a Portland market.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:25 PM CST up reply actions

no kidding

I am more than willing to pay for LP.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

Same here

That’s the only way I’ll get these Dallas games

Kidd stirred the drink

but Bass was the one that broke our back. He always does well against Portland.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:24 PM CST up reply actions

He is a big banger type PF

LMA is a quick defender but can get overpowered. And we play Outlaw at the 4 a lot and he can’t defend anybody. And it’s just that some players are Blazer killers. Like Bass, Tyrone Lue, Okur, Terry, some guys just always have great games against us.

by Sabonis4Ever on Feb 4, 2009 10:34 PM CST up reply actions

Oh my God

Tyronn Lue…you guys should be ashamed :)

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:35 PM CST up reply actions

no joke

he came into the game against us a few weeks ago, not having played for two weeks, and hit a looooong three pointer on the first possession. He was shooting some horrible percentage, but nailed a contested three on his first shot against us.

It’s eerie.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:36 PM CST up reply actions

he only played a few minutes

but I remember the three pointer and a layup… I was busy during that game. Brian Wheeler, the Blazer radio guy, remarked the second that Lue went in that he would hit shots…

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:40 PM CST up reply actions

You know, I was wondering that

Maybe the Darrell Armstrong signing had something to do with that, as well? Seriously, I thought that was a great addition. I still think that we need to do something before the deadline, though.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:41 PM CST up reply actions

Maybe something smaller though, unless J-Ho really isn't happy anymore

Stack, Williams, Carroll all look like Carlisle will never play them. But they have no real value on the market unless you put in a rotation player in the package.

by Norsktroll on Feb 4, 2009 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

Actually, Josh seems really happy

He said that he loves the team and doesn’t want to leave Dallas.

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:46 PM CST up reply actions

I'm out, you guys

It’s nearly midnight here in Orlando. It was nice chatting with you Blazers fans :)

by Marie on Feb 4, 2009 10:52 PM CST reply actions

Nice talking.

Good luck on the rest of the year.

by Cablinasian on Feb 4, 2009 10:54 PM CST up reply actions

Looks like it was a great win by the Mavs

Need to follow it up in Utah though.

Unfortunately I can never feel confident in the Mavs ever again after what they’ve produced this season but hey, here’s to hoping they scrape a win.

JEFF TEAGUE TIME.
