Josh Smith on the block. Future Maverick Great?
. Several league sources told ESPN.com that the Hawks have been working hard the past few weeks to see whether they can find a taker for Smith.
He's got a 6 million dollar trade kicker so....
"I'm not saying he's impossible to trade. There are a few owners like Paul Allen, James Dolan, Mark Cuban and maybe Daniel Gilbert who would pay the money. But there aren't many.
I think we're looking at a future Maverick great here. I would love for this to happen.

I like Josh Smith,
but I’m not going to trade Howard for him.
S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

I probably would
Smith is much younger, can attack the basket and a great helpside defender. And the Mavs have enough outside shooters.

they really don't have enough GOOD outside shooters
but I’d rather Howard (or Smith if we traded for him) attack the basket more anyways and NOT be an outside shooter

Why in the world not?
He’s better than Howard already.. And, the big thing, he actually stays on the court…
This team needs to get bigger, younger, and more athletic… I’d say Smith fits the bill almost perfectly…
That’s the kind of guy that kid makes MILES better offensively, and he makes the entire team better defensively when he’s on the floor…

I should add...
Ideally, if all they’re looking for is cap relief, you don’t have to trade Howard and you can go out and push him around the league in another deal for another piece…
But if they said Howard or walk away, I pull the trigger and don’t hesitate…

I would rather trade Howard and player x(Dampier or Stackhouse)
Okafor and Wallace or the fifth pick.
S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

I'm one of Howard's biggest fans here
I had a chance to get a free game jersey from any Mav and took his over Dirk’s. Looking back, not the SMARTEST choice, but hey, what’re you gonna do?
That said, I would take Smith for Howard in a flash.

He would be a great addition
We’re lacking athleticism…we don’t even run any alley-oop plays (or barely)

On the fence...
I gotta say I’m torn on this one. On one hand he is young, he’s athletic and he will take it to the hole with a vengeance… But on the other hand…
This isn’t a salary dump, its a attitude dump. Dude brings some baggage.
He lacks some maturity for sure, and I can already hear the Eddie Sefko tirade when he goes between the legs and misses a dunk in next years playoffs. Like I said, I’m on the fence. I see the up and the down side.
Ultimately you have to ask yourself why a team like Atlanta, who obviously needs the talent would let him go. It isn’t so they can keep a hand full of role players.

Yeah, you're on point on what you say ...
But, the guy defends well, is quick, athletic, can play almost every position and brings exactly what we need. Atlanta has Marvin Williams, who isn’t that polished yet, but is developing really well, and can blossom next year without Smith to share his minutes. Also, any player can get mad at this Atlanta organization. They just suck, this guy is on the trade block like forever now. I don’t think anyone would be happy hearing his name being called in all the trades on the world … All I say is that we can deal with the baggage. We dealed with Stack and Josh and everything is fine. We can deal with a player that young and that good. He haven’t reached his peak yet, he is 23 years old. Let him grow here with us …

Van Exel, Antoine Walker for a year, Antawn Jamison
it can be done.
And I don’t think Smith would be a big cry baby or act like that on a team with Dirk, Kidd, etc.

I don't like his attitude
He’s one of those guys who don’t get back on defense when he doesn’t get a call. I remember Bob Ortegel calling him out on this numerous times.

I still like the idea of reloading
by trading an older player for a younger one. Of course, you can’t do that unless you have an absolute linchpin, and Dirk’s aging…
Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

I would love him on the team
Anyone but Dirk for him. Do it Cubes!

It's hard to get a trade to match up for Smith
This is the best I could do and I don’t think Atlanta does unless they are desperate for a salary dump. The Mavs would also still have the ability to do a Shaq trade if they wanted.
Signature! I don't need no stinking signature!!

Pretty interesting discussions going on about Josh Howard at Blazer's Edge (purely hypothetical trade suggestion)
That partly got back to “is Josh Howard a bad character or even a cancer”

Trade Howard and S. Williams for him and
the lineup could look like this:
Draft Terrence Williams
Trade Stack and Damp for Emeka Okafor
Lineup:
PG- Jason Kidd
SG- Terrence Williams
SF- Josh Smith
PF- DIrk Nowitzki
C- Emeka Okafor
SG- Jason Terry
PF- Brandon Bass

We can't trade for Josh Smith
Please, do some research. His contract does not match anyone on our roster, especially considering that they are looking to unload salary. Try the ESPN Trade Machine coupled with a little common sense before you post anything on here.

Well ...
They can trade him. I don’t think they want to do so. Look at dallasbasketball.com and you will see what Mike Fisher said about it. We actually have enough expirings and all that to do a trade. If they just wanted to do a trade for the sake of it. And the only thing that the article said was that few owners would take his contract with the 6mil kicker. And mentioned Cuban. But if the idea was to unload salary they could trade with us and do so. Josh and Dampier are expirings and Stack can take some money off their cap right now. But like Fisher said, they will not trade him, because that’s not the right way to unload salary. They have Mike Bibby with a 14 mil salary this year, he will resign with them for a lot less. Marvin Williams is a free agent but he will hardly receive more than the MLE. So, they actually will have a better payroll next year. But like I said, if they wanted to unload salary, we would be there …

Then
why are there articles saying the Mavs could be one team after him?? I think they wouldn’t put that unless they knew we had a chance to get him. They would throw in SPeedy Claxton to shed money.

You're talking about the Media...
Clown!
by Texan 1st on Jun 18, 2009 1:24 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The Media
only gives out BS rumors like the Amare for Big Al and #6. That would be possible if the Minn GM was stupid. It would work salary cap wise but it would be stupid talent wise. The trade of Howard for Smith and Claxton if we threw in more things could work salary wise. The media would come out with a story (lets say the money works for both sides) of Kobe for Erick Dampier and Jerry Stackhouse is a rumor. Not gonna happen but money would be even on both sides,. The SMith trade is possible
