Kidd's decision depends on Mavs' roster upgrades
The courtship of point guard Jason Kidd will likely extend over a couple of weeks, as he waits to see the moves the Dallas Mavericks make to upgrade their roster, league sources said Wednesday.
After Kidd met with Dallas owner Mark Cuban at midnight on Wednesday in New York, he had a late-morning visit with Knicks officials at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are unlikely to give Kidd more than a one-year deal for the mid-level exception around $5 million, while Dallas would likely pay him around $8 million.
Kidd loves New York and the Garden, but also knows the novelty of that could fade fast on a losing team, especially closing on his 37th birthday. Kidd will talk with the Portland Trail Blazers, too.

More details from ESPN's Marc Stein
The Dallas Mavericks opened the free-agent period early Wednesday by letting guard Jason Kidd know that they are prepared to sign him to a three-year deal, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.
The specifics to be determined in those talks center on the money, with the Mavericks believed to be proposing a deal in the $21 million to $25 million range for the 36-year-old guard, and Kidd said to be seeking more.

My optic presentation sizzles the retina
How far must you go to gain respect? Um...
Well, it's kind of simple, just remain your own
Or you'll be crazy, sad and alone
So i want to know why the mavericks are not interested in Ron Artest?
Couldnt they pull off a sign and trade involving Howard and Stack if he is needed? I just can only imagine what this team would look like with Artest, Dirk, and Kid playing together! Would Artest be too expensive to just sign?
Elvis has "shook up" Arlington!!
I think the Mavs should focus on a SG to take out Wright
Von Wafer is a good choice and can be picked up using a part of the MLE.
What about Rip Hamilton?
Now that the Pistons have their SG in Gordon, they might be willing to talk about Hamilton. Especially considering we are offering Dampier. Consider that Detroit has only one center on the roster, Kwame Brown, and Dampier has a nice expiring deal for the summer of 2010.
I imagine they are interested in him
I doubt he would come here for the MLE, so it would have to be a sign and trade.
