Brandon Bass Leaves for Orlando
As expected, Bass has agreed to a deal with the Orlando Magic.
The Orlando Magic are trying to keep up in the arms race in the competitive Eastern Conference, agreeing to terms on Friday with free agent forward Brandon Bass on a four-year deal believed to be worth $18 million. The 23-year-old Bass was one of the most coveted big men in this year's free agency class, having been a valuable role player off the bench for the Mavericks the past two seasons. He played in 81 games for Dallas last year, averaging 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 19 minutes a night.
Knew it was coming, but it still sucks. Best of luck to him.

I'll miss him in a Mavs uniform
At least I still get to cheer for him.
Yay, Roger!

Then how come we couldn't sign and trade for Gortat and Bass. That would have saved both our MLE's.

Base Year Compensation...
It basically means that, if Dallas gave Bass a huge raise, he would temporary be worth less in a trade. Same with Gortat, really. The numbers get a little squirrelly once you bring BYC into the equation, and while it’s possible to pull off, there’s not really a point. Both teams got their guys, and neither would be aggressively pursuing the remaining FAs with the MLE if they still had it.
I think if you put two of my best seasons together it wouldn't come up with the numbers he's going to have at the end of the season. -Troy Aikman on Tony Romo

oh damn
I’ll miss Bass, his ferocious two-handed dunking and his double bicep flexing. This sucks.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

im glad for him
that he can compete for a starting role. he and gortat were essentially in the same type of role backing up a superstar. just in different positions.

wouldnt it be nice ?
if we could some how package a deal involving Shawne Williams, Matt Carrol, and Greg Buckner for a Brandon Bass replacement….now I know this guy has been a joke as a starter his whole career but Kwame Brown his whole purpose being six fouls 5 or 6 boards and a blocked shot or two..maybe a couple of flagrants on Kobe and Duncan.
Would any body be interested in Tyson Chandler???? And what would you be willing to give up in a trade scenario all 3 of the above players and cash a draft pick too?

I miss him. I wish he would have gone to my Blazers, but in Orlando he can start and is out of the conference. So it makes sense for him and the Mavs.
If you want to trade our spare parts for Devin Harris, I have three quarters I would like to trade for your dollar

aaronp.....We are hopefully getting
Gortat and we still have Damp…why would we need or want Tyson Chandler? Doesn’t make any sense to me. Personally, if we going to get another center I’d rather re-sign Hollins. If the MAVS do not re-sign Hollins then that means esentially we gave the Bobcats Diop for Carroll. And THAT is an awful trade.

With Gorat coming...
that doesnt replace Bass’s roll coming in as a back up to Dirk…from what I hear Gortat is going to be the starting center Damp will come off the bench behind him( and damp will most likeley be traded at the deadline or next season) regardless its a contract year for Damp that being said the center position will be pretty productive hopefully with Damp/Gortat. my idea with Chandler would be to use him at the 4 when Dirks resting..Chandler can still produce offensivley and get you plenty of boards…so envision it this way Dirks out of the game Chandler at the PF Gortat or Damp at the center….Dirk comes back in now Gortat or Damp get the rest Chandler moves to center.

Was one of my favorite players on the Mavs. You saw the energy and heart he put in the game, and you loved what he did on the court. I loved when he’d jump over any guy and put down a 2 hand slam in someone’s face.
We need someone to backup Dirk, Chandler seems like a good fit.
