The official unofficial MM Off-season talk thread V2

Well, uh, post away. Let's crowd together all there potential trade ideas/lineup ideas/FA signings in one post rather than spreading it out in a giant wave of shit. Of course the things that actually happen deem their own fanposts, but posting ideas in a fanpost just crowds the place with junk.

Fan posts shouldn't be dedicated to hypotheticals such as "Let's get this guy" or "What do you think of this trade?" or "Fucking hell, Donnie, do something."

I know, it's the offseason and we don't have much to talk about. But it's been pretty fugly so far.

Kobe for the buckshot?

I have to agree with this. Some of the threads started here are really dumb. If you don’t even know the basics of business/economics, you really shouldn’t be advising the Mavs on how to use their assets.

Also, be assured that the line-ups are probably going to change quite a bit. With the Marion trade, Dallas can go big, small & everything in between.

Plus, Nobody knows with any certainty what will happen next year so stop acting like you have some kind of inside info or a crystal ball. Everyone has an opinion but that doesn’t mean the rest of us have to accept it as fact or even concede that it’s educated when it’s obviously not.

That being said, I think the Mavs will sign one or two more players w/ the MLE as well as trade the buckshot for a decent rotation player & I look forward to discussing these moves with the Mavs community but for Heaven’s sake, stop expecting a blockbuster trade! It’s just not probable.

I don’t know if I always agree w/ jonthefon but he has a great point here.

I think Marion WAS a blockbuster trade

whether or not he pans out, that’s to be determined

Hakim Warrick has qualifying offer pulled...

Making him unrestricted…

Any interest?

Hmm.

Probably, yeah. Could be better than Bass. Worth at least a fair chunk of the MLE, I’d say.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

Not could be...

WOULD be better than Bass… Especially for a fraction of the cost…

by N41D on Jul 25, 2009 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Ike Diogu

could fill the Bass role for the BAE.
Another name out there still, Von Wafer, also could be had w/ the BAE
For trading, Use the Buckshot and some other contracts for Chandler

That's easily manipulated, though...

Humphries, Jawai, and Shawne Williams could all be cut loose without much thought…

If you trade Buckner, you’re likely packaging him with one other guy, thus opening a spot…

There are absolutely ways around that…

by N41D on Jul 25, 2009 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

everybody’s saying that Buck will be traded by September

Pacers looking at Ryan Hollins

I love how that’s the headline and yet it’s only mentioned in one sentence at the very end.

Cant we do a S&T for Hollins?

Tim Thomas?

Why not for 10-15 minutes a night. Help keep some of the guys fresh for the playoffs. Mavs are loading up on the questionable personalities.

Feeling good about the 1, 2, 3 and 4?

Once the summer subsides, is it possible that Dallas has one of the best starting/closing line-ups in the league? If Odom splits for Miami, I’m kind of hard pressed to find an equivalent. All biases aside, could the Mavs actually be a top 5 team on paper? I know that they don’t give out paper trophies, but I think the team is looking good & as we all know, anything can happen. Just get to the playoffs.

Atlanta retains Marvin for 5 years 40 million

Good for Atlanta. They’ve kept there core together, while adding a nice bench scorer in Crawford, to go along with a good draft, getting Jeff Teague in the 1st round at 16. They’re one big body away from being a scary scary team.

by octoberty on Jul 29, 2009 9:14 PM CDT reply actions

I agree...

There are several other teams that are looking surprisingly good to me too. I mean I’m pretty optimistic if I am a Raptors, Wizards, Bobcats, or Hornets fan. They have all gone from junk to being pretty competitive. Even though you have your “Yankee” teams like Boston, Cleveland, & LA, I think there’s actually alot of parity in the league right now.

by newkidd07 on Jul 29, 2009 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Oh yeah...

I forgot. Even OKC looks like they might be in the stages of building something kind of scary…once everyone gains some experience that is.

by newkidd07 on Jul 29, 2009 10:40 PM CDT up reply actions

OKC is already freakin' scary.

Westbrook, Durant, Harden, Green are four talented, talented young guys. They’re only going tog et better

Memphis too, I suppose. Conley, Mayo, Gay, Gasol, Thabeet.

Odom's staying in LA

This sucks. The Fakers are basically the same team that won the title. That means we need to get better. Looking forward to september… that’s when the good news are coming.

by mg4tx on Jul 30, 2009 11:13 PM CDT reply actions

Was obvious Odom was staying in LA. Thought he was using Miami like Kidd was using New York, to get more money. At least, it worked for one of them because one management system isn’t as smart as the Lakers are.
