Yeah.

Really sucks that we flipped George for Shawn Marion. Fire his ass.

by MeanMr.Mustard on Jul 30, 2009 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions

You guys don't really think

that Nellie would have traded Bellineli to us for Devean George, do ya??? Not in a million years would that have happened. Hell, I wouldn’t doubt that Nellie did it just to piss Cuban off. Sorta like telling Mark….“See what you could’ve gotten for George IF you would’ve just paid me my money!” And besides….who would you really rather have Marco Bellineli (a guy who hasn’t done much of anything EXCEPT in summer league…and we all know THAT doesn’t count for much) or Shawn Marion?

by Cynthia56 on Jul 30, 2009 12:09 AM CDT reply actions

I mean really when you

think about it, why else would Nellie want George??? He plays D and is NOT a great scorer….that’s certainly NOT a Nellie type of player, now is it? I don’t know about some of you on here, but it gets a little irritating to me that EVERY damn time a trade is made…somebody complains why couldn’t the MAVS have done that?? If not for Donnie, we could have EVERYBODY. Sorry folks, but it just doesn’t work like that. Never has, never will….no matter who is your GM.

From what I seem to read on GSoM

Warriors fans aren’t big on Belinelli because he can’t play D at all and his basketball IQ is extremely low (i.e. takes bad shots with his limited playing time), among other things. But still, annoying move but what can you do? I think the Golden State management wants to save money or something.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

haha. this does seem like an f u to the mavs. o well.

I mean, I guess it would just be a guy who you know, grabs bananas and runs. Or, um, a banana that grabs things. I don’t know. Why would a banana grab another banana? I mean, those are the kind of questions I don’t want to answer.

I’d much rather trade Stack, George, and Wright for Marion than George for Belinelli.

I don't see it as crap

unless Marion’s done. I think we’ve done quite a lot. Think about it: we have gotten more athletic and better at defense with Marion, a reliable post scorer that rebounds in Gooden, better at 3 point shooting with Thomas and McCants, and more size all around.

One things for sure

Were gonna find out if Rick Carlisle is one of the better coaches in this league.

by octoberty on Jul 30, 2009 11:32 AM CDT up reply actions

EXACTLY

people seem to forget that we have a good, smart coach. he’s not a wade phillips guy who is going to fail despite a roster full of talent. He’ll get the most out of em, just watch.

Mavs this year = 82-0.

by chris_francisco on Jul 30, 2009 11:55 AM CDT up reply actions

Wade Phillips has had to deal with a ton of injuries to that talent

just like we had to deal with Howard, Terry and Kidd’s injuries last year

in a perfect world, you have no injuries. I don’t think you can blame a coach for injuries, which is what’s sad about the recent exit of the former Stars coach…I think he would’ve torn it up this year had we not lost Morrow to start the year, Zubov, etc. Still probably would’ve lost to the Wings, but hey…you never know.

"Hang-Dai, Wu...Hang-Fu$&ing-Dai"

by Walter Sobchak on Jul 30, 2009 6:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Can't blame Wade Phillips too much.

Considering the injuries to Jones, McBriar and Romo out for three weeks, the pretty bad playcalling, the terrible offensive line, etc.

And I’m still surprised that Joe N fired Tippett, Morrow was a huge loss, Zubov and Lehtinen weren’t as big but left holes, the Avery incident. They put it together in the middle months especially on the back of Marty but then they lost Brad Richards, and just couldn’t sustain such a huge effort. Turco really wore down during that stretch and they couldn’t get enough offense without Richards being there to create goalscoring opportunities.

Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.

by jonthefon on Jul 31, 2009 2:31 AM CDT up reply actions

i think the bottom line is

that we are a better team now then we were last year. I think getting Gooden/Thomas for a year is ok, we will have a lot of flexibility next year. So for a year the Gooden/Thomas combo if fine and if we add Rashard we just a little more depth.

by mrichardson70 on Jul 30, 2009 10:47 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't mind.

If your roster looks like:

Damp/Gooden
Dirk/Gooden/Singleton
Marion/Ross/Thomas
Josh/Jet/McCants
Kidd/JJ/Roddy

That’s an upgrade, but C still sucks, and I’d really much rather have a legit backup PG.

I keep reading that Dallas isn’t inclined to move Josh, but I really wouldn’t mind a committee 2 of Ross, Jet, and McCants if we could find a better big.

by brettgardner on Jul 30, 2009 12:52 PM CDT up reply actions

what big is worth Howard?

and what other NBA teams have a backup PG that is better than Barea? If we need defense and size, I think Beaubois will be just fine after an initial adjustment period.

"Hang-Dai, Wu...Hang-Fu$&ing-Dai"

by Walter Sobchak on Jul 30, 2009 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Well

LA has Farmer, Denver has Lawson, Portland now has Blake AND Bayless, Houston has Lowry, and that’ just a smattering of the West. Let’s not forget that Indiana now has Watson and Jack to backup Ford.

Blake is a guy I wouldn’t mind seeing here. One year deal while Roddy learns. They might just take Buckner, or maybe they’d be willing to expand the deal to give us Webster for more filler.

by brettgardner on Jul 31, 2009 2:58 AM CDT up reply actions

so you just want to get rid of Barea?

I’m not too keen on Farmar, Lawson is a rookie that hasn’t proven anything at the pro level yet – I agree on Portland but Bayless is a combo guard, and I don’t think we should ever have a reason to be jealous of the Pacers. I just don’t see such an upgrade out there that would make sense.

I would like Steve Blake, but more so if Kidd hadn’t re-signed.

I think we’re fine. I really think Beaubois will have an impact during the 2nd half of the season.

"Hang-Dai, Wu...Hang-Fu$&ing-Dai"

by Walter Sobchak on Aug 3, 2009 1:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Barea could start for some teams.

He’s got talent and score a lot in a short period of time.

“what other NBA teams have a backup PG that is better than Barea?”

Not many.

S-St. Louis, R-Rams, D-Dallas, M-Mavericks, A-Arizona, D-Diamondbacks.

by srdmad on Jul 31, 2009 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

That's not the answer

Barea isn’t even a PG.

And every single team ahead of us in the standings last year has a better one.

You think he's sucks.

size

And isn’t that exactly what jake wrote should be our goal going into the offseason? Get bigger? At least I think it was jake…too lazy to look up the column.
I think the Mavs had a good offseason. Way better than the last ones. And we still have the “buck shot” to add another rotation player in september and enough assets for some trade deadline stuff, not even counting the flexibility next summer.

by coolste on Jul 30, 2009 10:58 AM CDT reply actions

shan foster and gerald green. and devean george again.

I’d say this offseason is a few steps up.

by chris_francisco on Jul 30, 2009 11:56 AM CDT up reply actions

size and athleticism

plus scoring from the PG, SG and C spots. We solved the starting SG scoring issue, drafted a PG that can score along with Barea, and brought in a backup C that might start and can score in the post. Plus McCants and Tim Thomas as 3 point shooters and scorers. We’ve seen several upgrades, and are still in position to make an impact trade by October and another huge impact trade after the season’s over.

I guess I don't get...

the infatuation with Marco Belinelli…

Sorry, if you’re a guard that can’t defend or produce offensively in Don Nelson’s offense, I’m not particularly interested…

When Don Nelson doesn’t play you because your basketball IQ is low and you take bad shots, something must be terribly, terribly wrong.

Great move for the Mavs. It has been a great offseason for you guys. Re-sign kidd, then sign marion, and now Bellinelli. Trust me, you want this guy. He was burried underneath the slew of guards in GS and will give you the shooter that you guys need. I was hoping the Phoenix Suns would get him in the Amare Stoudemire trade that never happened. Ya gotta love Suns Rumors, they just never really surface.
