Mavs trade for Marion?

Mavs are in talks to trade Stackhouse for Marion via a sign and trade. Not a bad thought assuming we don't have to give up much more than Stackhouse. It says we might have to sweeten the deal with cash or draft picks. What do you guys think of this? Assuming Orlando doesn't match and we sign Gortat, we'd still have Damp's contract to trade.

hm. if it happens, looks like they’re going to play a lot of small ball with Terry, Kidd, Howard, Marion & Dirk.

Maybe

but why, if we acquire Gortat?

thats a dumb move

2 of the same player but i guess its better than nothing and no that wouldnt be the starting 5 Marion would come off the bench and terry would come off the bench…still lack a 2 …why dont they just get a real shooting guard my god!!!!

All warfare is based on deception.

if you’re replying to me, i’m not saying that would be the starting 5. i’m saying you might see that small ball line up a lot b/c those would probably be their 5 best players.

kind of like how the lakers play Odom more even though Bynum starts. if you’re matching up with the Lakers for instance, Pau vs Dirk, Odom vs Marion, Artest vs Howard, Kobe vs Kidd and Fisher vs Terry.

is it really a dumb move when the player you're getting two of is

good, and both in their prime? Its not like he’s bad…

knew he had scored when his skid washed ashore, and a monkey served him a frozen ... daiquiri

I had a thought

I just read this article on BDL
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Jason-Kidd-comes-back-to-Dallas;_ylt=AuYscZIIEYq5Ss2xOnpQQU.8vLYF?urn=nba,174922

It talks about the financial relief we could get from Howard’s and Damp’s contracts next summer. Maybe the plan is trade for Marion now and then let Howard’s and Damp’s contracts expire so we can sign a free agent…Joe Johnson perhaps? I think a core of Dirk, Marion, Kidd, Gortat, and Terry off the bench is enough to lure someone to Dallas.

Not bad!

Definitely a good fall-back plan if nothing else happens.

by Texan 1st on Jul 7, 2009 9:03 AM CDT up reply actions

The only problem with that plan...

Is that it can’t possibly ever work in a million years, because the guy writing it doesn’t know anything about how the NBA salary cap actually works. Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson do, however, which is why they will most likely go with a plan like this:

That is the most realistic way for Dallas to be players in 2010, with the only downside being that we have to endure another year on Dampier in a Mavs uniform (though almost certainly coming off the bench).

I think if you put two of my best seasons together it wouldn't come up with the numbers he's going to have at the end of the season. -Troy Aikman on Tony Romo

for all the beatings Damp takes

he’s not a bad player. and he’s certainly the best center we’ve had in this organization that I can remember, personally.

I’d take him AND Gortat AND Hollins for another year…that’s a pretty nice 3 headed monster, and I think we were missing that when we let Mbenga go

That trio would be significantly better than the one they had in 2006...

It’s not like DJ played a lot anyway. The news that the salary cap is going down is excellent for the Mavs as well. All those teams hording cap space just saw their coffers get a little more bare, while Dallas is standing in a position to offer any free agent more money than they can get going anywhere else, through proper application of the DUST chip.

yep.

all these people saying Donnie doesn’t know what he’s doing, and then hating on Cuban for being what he is, are about to realize just how great it is to have a GM that can hold off for a few years to reach the “master plan,” and an owner that scoffs at the notion of a luxury tax

Dirk Kidd and Terry

are not getting any younger.

neither are Marion or Damp

but Howard is in his prime and Barea, Gortat and Bass should all be entering their primes very soon

lakers vs. dallas

pau vs. gortat -this is match gortat is a great defender also look at lebron hes quicker but gortat block’s hes shot
odom vs. dirk-dirk is unstoppable in offense
artest vs. marion-both are good defenders
bryant vs. josh-bryant is ahead but let see if josh plays healthy
fisher vs. kidd-let see this….kidd is a great passer,he can also score, buzzer beating also like fisher,he can steal whenever that he is old…well let see

as for now if they get marion mavericks can be a contender…dont under estimate the mavs …if they re-sign bass thats good…bass is also a good help offense and defense

they only need is a good center whenever that they have gortat ..i dont like dampier i just want mavs to add a center…trade dampier, stackhouse, devean george, singleton….center like-camby/kaman is hes healthy/or andersen plus a sg-like hamilton or sf like prince…
let go mavs we will make it this time…the legacy of dirk is here now @ 09-2010 play-offs

yes

i think jordan is a free agent. if he sells his interest in his team he can join the mavs too.

Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was on the same pitching staff with Danny Darwin during the 1986 through 1988 seasons. Both were described by Milo Hamilton as "tall, tough Texans." It was a source of debate amongst Astros players and fans over who would win in a fight, Ryan or Darwin. Though Astros pitcher Bob Knepper attempted to set up a fight between the two during spring training in 1988, manager Hal Lanier stopped it before it could commence. Many experts, including Astros shortstop Rafael Ramirez, felt that Darwin would win because he "looked like someone no man would want to mess with."
