Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Captain Jack

So Im browsing thru my usual sports websites today, you know insidehoops, nbadraft.net, dallasbasketball.com, realgm, and blah blah blah. abd i read an interesting story on 3 of the above listed sights but majority of it came from the rumors section of insidehoops.com.

Stephen Jackson said that he doesn't want to be a Warrior anymore and honestly can u blame him. I was thinking that the Mavs should make  a play at him at least. I mean like the old saying goes if u cant beat them join them, but they did beat us sadly but thats old news. He wants to play for a championship contending team or a team thats just a few pieces short of a stellar team.

I say we package Buck and some stuff and try to make a deal for him. That would definitely cure our 2 guard problem.

so a starting lineup of:

C-Damp or Gooden (whateva)

F-Drirk

F-Howard

G-Jackson

G- Kidd

sounds and looks good, and I don't think Marion would mind comin off the bench with JET in the backup line lookin like this.

C-Gooden or Jawai(WHateva)

F-Thomas

F-Marion

G-Terry

G- Roddy or JJ

SO is there any way we could get him to slide on to Dallas and add a nice element of toughness which we need aside from a Solid Center.?

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lhvxy5

( My amatureGm way of getting Captain Jack on ESPN's trade machine)

Dallas gets Stephen Jackson

Golden State gets Matt Carroll and Shawne Williams and our Second round pick for next year and some money

(Saves both teams some money in the long run cuz GS definitely aint a contender right now)

Not a big fan of that contract.

I think it’s like 9mil for four more years to his age-35 or age-36 season. Elsewhere, I’m a fan of his ability even though he goes through periods where he just blows balls and can’t buy a basket. Not sure whether he’s lost a step on defense, but he’d probably be as good or a bit better than Marion as a perimeter defender right now.

If you asked me to give an opinion, I’d probably say no considering the logjam it might create by pushing Marion and his money to the bench and Jackson’s contract and age. I think the guy’s off-court issues are past him though.

Would be a very good move for us.

Can score and play D. When he was asked where he would liked to play he said "Either Cleveland, anywhere in Texas or out here with Al (Harrington) in New York."

Still

Don’t like his contract, his age and his recent reputation as a high-volume and sometimes streaky shooter.

In the end it’s obviously about how well he could fit in. If he’s given a role (which will probably be the case with the kind of scoring the Mavs already have) where he basically just takes open shots, handles some of the playmaking especially while Kidd is off the court and guards the other team’s best or second best perimeter guy, he’d be a nice add despite the salary and the other questions he would bring.

Jackson for

Howard . Jackson is not only a better leader then Howard but he is is tougher, a better defender and statistically better. Those who say his contract sucks simply are wrong. He is schedule to make less than $8 M this this year and Howard 10.8 M. if anyone has a bloated contract it is Howard and he has proven we can not win with him.

In a way Howard can be used liked the Damp Bombshell.

http://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2009/7/8/942404/the-damp-bombshell

A team could trade for him and just not exercise the team option, so they wouldn’t have to take on money. This is why I wouldn’t trade Howard for Jackson, before this knowledge I would have probably said yes, but I don’t think Jackson is so much better than Howard, that I would want to lose the ability to potentially trade Howard like Dampier can be traded.

Dude, why would you bother to pretend to be a Mavs fan? Why not just post the same comment while also admitting your bias as a Warrior fan? You do know everyone can look at your profile and see that you are a Warriors fan even if they didn’t recognize you from GSoM, right? Like I told you back on GSoM, Howard is younger and his contract is much shorter. Jackson will be making 10 million dollars when he’s 34 or 35. Thats a much worse contract. Howard is a better rebounder and a more efficient scorer. I tend to think he’s a better defender as well, though that is debatable. Jackson might be a better fit for Dallas as it appears, from an outsider’s perspective, that Jackson’s more 2 guard-ish skillset might be a better fit. But getting a younger player with a shorter contract who is similarly productive would be a great trade for the Warriors and I don’t even like Josh Howard.

Thing A

What am I wrong about? You posing as a Mavs fan? You clearly were. Howard being younger with a smaller contract? Both are true. Howard being a better rebounder and more efficient scorer who turns the ball over far less? All those things are true.

Thing A

by sam23 on Sep 1, 2009 1:23 AM CDT up reply actions

crab dribble cocktail, you’re a dumbshit. Howard’s younger. His contract is shorter (team option at the end of this season, I think, which makes him a flexible contract).

“Statistically better” is a moronic argument. Jackson’s playing 40 minutes a night as a #1 option. Howard’s the #3 threat behind Dirk and Terry.

Jackson’s a better shooter (but streaky), but Howard’s better at getting to the basket. I won’t go and use Josh’s superior FG% because of differing roles.

Defensive-wise, Howard is a pretty good defender both on the perimeter and in passing lanes when he’s healthy. Jackson is too, but I’d say his reputation got inflated from playing in Golden State’s porous “defense”. They’re basically equal (above-average).

Tougher? What does that mean? Because of Howard’s ankle injury last season? Or that Captain Jack can fire a gun outside a nightclub?

If you want to pick at leadership, I love how his leadership seems to encompass bitching to refs after non-calls and not getting back to play D as a result and throwing up early shots when he’s supposed to be the playmaker.

Your argument doesn’t have much merit. As a Mavs fan, the only thing I’d say right now is that I wouldn’t deal Howard for Jackson unless someone like Wright or even Ellis comes over. That doesn’t mean I’m overvaluing Josh, but dealing Howard for Jackson is pretty much a lateral move, which isn’t something the Mavs should bother doing especially if they’re taking on a longer contract and an older player.

Thanks for dropping over here and keeping things cool, sam23, though.

I'd love to get him here

but I’m sorry that wouldn’t “solve our 2 guard problem.” We don’t have a problem to be solved there, unless you think Josh Howard is absolutely worthless. Which then I don’t care to debate with you, because when he’s physically and mentally healthy, he is obviously a great asset. And the same mental argument can be made vs. Stephen Jackson.

What happened to this site?

I haven’t been here in a while but why are there no new mainpage posts for the last month? Is Wes taking a break?

Thing 2

by olympicmike on Sep 1, 2009 1:18 AM CDT reply actions

well just reading the title of the page...

This must be his “lazy” time…. Its a shame, alot of good stuff could be talked about if this site had some leadership. Maybe Im spoiled by LSB and the job Adam does over there, but this place needs new blood running it.

I'd have to agree with that.

Jake isn’t around too often these days and I’m not sure where Toddy is. But maybe it’s an offseason thing, you know you can expect near-daily around-the-web updates during the season along with analysis.

Maybe they're preparing a barrage of posts?

I’m not sure what’s going on, but I still want Otis Smith’s smiling face off of the front page.

I like Wes, so I don't want to bash

It would be nice if we had more of an Adam/Z tag team though when one is absent the other could take over, like LSB. I’ve become a Rangers/minor league addict because of that site over the past 3 years…I am already a Mavs addict, but I could use a weekly if not daily infusion of news on this team during the offseason.

But who is that second guy?

I'd volunteer but I'm sure I'm not as savvy

as somebody needs to be with all of this…technology. Or Mavs insider knowledge.

It shouldn't be too hard to browse around and post links to all Mavs news

Maybe add a thought here and there

Problem is

not really much Mavs stuff around the Net in the offseason either, and Wes is pretty diligent at that during the regular season. I’d like to see maybe two regular contributors.

No

I’d be interested in Monta Ellis if they are truly wanting to dump that salary, which would be quite foolish..

Let’s add another piece of the puzzle that solves a second-third round playoff exit and then begin the rebuilding era. I don’t see adding Jackson as making us a real contender.
