Two possible trades heating up...

First link was just put out this morning.  It talks about Cuban making a "hard push" to get Melo.  Second link is the trade talk about Haywood for Martin between Dallas and Houston.  Personally, I am not a die-hard Mavs fan but, I follow Melo hard and have been since his high school basketball days.  However, I'm playing in the Virgin Gaming NBA 2K11 $50,000 Challenge and I play with the Mavericks.  So, I would love to see Melo go for Butler and Stevenson but, don't want the Haywood trade to go down because Haywood really produces well on the game.  I know the true Mavs fans are really going to lay into me because I'm hoping these trades go down for simple fact of a game but, I also want to see the combo of Dallas and Melo win a title and the Melo deal would make the Mavs the "Team to Beat" in my opinion.

Some free advice:

Never listen to rumors from mavericks.scout.com. Good luck with your 2k11 tourney though!

lol

thanks for the advice and thanks for the luck. i’m hoping dirk and melo team bc then at least one title will be won…either by me or dallas in real life. however, i’m sure mavs fans want the 2nd option.

I think messing with this team now would be a bad idea.

They are gelling and all of those “missing pieces” we talk about are finally here. Defense, big men that dont have stonehands, perimeter shooting, and a second superstar, carchanmarijet.

by bbob on Dec 22, 2010 11:00 AM CST reply actions

carchanmarijet can do it all. 56 points last night

by young guns on Dec 22, 2010 12:01 PM CST up reply actions

Woah, who's the second superstar?

While I think it could be hurtful to mess with this roster, if the Mavericks could pull a no-brainer without changing too much of the roster, maybe Butler+pieces for Melo or Haywood for Martin, then they should pull the trigger.

We’ve always looked great in the regular season, now we look even better with Tyson Chandler, but it doesn’t seem to be enough in the playoffs. There’s not always that secondary scorer that you need to be able to count on when Dirk’s either cold or on the bench (Jet’s inconsistent, and Butler is butler), they’re both decent enough third options.

by Why on Dec 22, 2010 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

Think you missed my point...

carchanmarijet, means that by combining 4 players you have a 2nd superstar. All 4 guys wont play like dogshit on any given game and will give Dirk some relief (ie. last night).

You get Martin and lose Haywood, your defense takes a considerable hit. Now we have a team that is an offensive powerhouse and a defensive liability (ie. every other Mavs team since Dirk was drafted). Also, how can you guys keep praising a Haywood/Martin trade after watching the Magic scramble without a decent backup Center last night? Chandler had 50 dunks. I love Mahinmi’s upside, but I’m not ready to vault him into meaningful minutes and expect him to bring Haywood’s D.

Why would Denver want Caron? They’d be trading one expiring contract for another that is worth a lot less. And what “pieces” would they want? Roddy? No, they have Lawson. And what if they trade for Melo at the deadline, they make the playoffs and lose in the 1st or 2nd round? Do they make the same old “they didn’t have enough time to gel” statement? Too bad, he’s headed to New York.

I tweeted Skin about the Martin trade.

He says no way that happens because:

A) The CBA wouldn’t work in either favor
B) Houston isn’t ready to drop him until they are COMPLETELY out of it.

Take it for what it’s worth. I usually trust Skin when it comes to things such as this.

The Rockets actually said specifically

that while interested in Gortat, they would not be willing to give Martin up. Gortat >>> Haywood. Mike Fisher is full of shit.

by GutenDirk on Dec 22, 2010 12:36 PM CST up reply actions

You really think Gortat is better than Haywood, right now? Or are you being facetious?

4pts, 5 rbs – Haywood
4pts, 4.7rbs – Gortat

push?

better per 36 numbers….

and more importantly : Gorat is motivated. Haywood not.

I guess that 10 rb game the other night against the Suns was just a mirage?

the problem with Haywood for Martin straight up is

there’s no way the Rockets would do that trade. For Houston, I think if they were going to lose their most dynamic player, there would have to be a multi-player and maybe multi-team trade.

by young guns on Dec 22, 2010 5:52 PM CST up reply actions

I have no opinion about the trade. I only think Gortat is better than Haywood right now. :)

Yes, dismantle the team

Because offense, offense, offense wins titles, right? Oh, wait… it doesn’t. There’s a reason teams like Boston, LA, and San Antonio have won titles this decade… they play DEFENSE!

they play defense and offense. can’t win without both

You're FOR these trades?

Have you not watched Mavs teams of the past decade?

I have no opinion about the trade. I only think

“The reason teams like Boston, LA, and San Antonio have won titles this decade… they play DEFENSE and Offense!”

If playing only Defense would be enough, the Bobcats would be last year’s Champion.

Did I say defense and only defense wins titles?

i didn’t imply you said defense only wins, i merely think that

Because offense, offense, offense wins titles, right? Oh, wait… it doesn’t.

is not quite correct. You can’t disregard it [Offense].

The Bobcats comment was an illustration exaggeration on my part.

Anyways, right now it’s the Mavs Offense that is not good enough to win a title, imo.

what do you base that opinion on?

barea currently best penetrator [sic!] [sigh] terry&butler and really almost everybody else beside the centers rely on jumpshots and general lack of easy points, note that i don’t say points in the paint.

nobody to double-team beside dirk.

by DOH on Dec 24, 2010 12:47 PM CST up reply actions

isn't that enough if dirk is able to pass out of it?

the team isn’t lacking in ball movement.

nope - see past, perfomances, and compare

the team lacks efficient scoring threats from the wings.

is kobe efficient? what about paul pierce?

efficient = fts, dunks, layups

both are ok, but mainly because of fts

i want close to 50% FG, 37% 3PT, 80+% FT, 5+FTA. Can i have it like that?

"Mais put… Il est fou ce gars!" - French Jesus about Jewish Ice-T

by DOH on Dec 26, 2010 3:40 AM CST up reply actions

well, you can have it like that if you're willing to trade your future, and/or a big part of your defense.

because i don’t think that beaubois’ numbers are going to look like that when he comes back.

it’s the pessimist in me that says he’ll be a volume shooter. of course, the optimist in me says that he’d be better at it than caron, but that’s not saying too much.

that's none of your damn business and i'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.

by buckets on Dec 26, 2010 11:02 AM CST up reply actions

also, i wouldn't center past failures solely on inefficient shooting guards.

we got pretty far in 06, and the thing i remember most about it was how the mavs couldn’t keep anyone out of the paint.

doesn’t look like that’ll be a reoccurring theme in this year’s playoffs at least.

that's none of your damn business and i'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.

by buckets on Dec 25, 2010 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

not solely, but imagine if you’d have to doubleteam somebody beside Dirk.

Thing is, do you trust the current offense to produce enough against good defensive teams in the playoffs?

by DOH on Dec 26, 2010 3:43 AM CST up reply actions

you know, i don't know what to expect from the team when it comes to the playoffs. that comes from alternating years of success and failure.

i would imagine that they’ll have a plan for the inevitable dirk double teams. if they don’t, then no more coach carrey next year.

that's none of your damn business and i'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs.

Kidd
Terry
Melo
Dirk
Chandler

Sounds good to me.

the further Melo stay away from Dallas the better, I would not cheer for him even if he was on the Mavs and I am a huge Mavs fan but this guy is just drama and BS waiting to happen. AND on top of that we give up one of the most promising players in the NBA Roddy B. Roddy B is the future Melo is just a whole bag of BS and drama this team does not need.

Even if he came here and won a championship I would still not cheer for him. UGH

Elvis Andrus and Derek Holland make me moist!

I would, but....

I don’t think it would happen unless he gave up the idea of playing for the Knicks next year, or the Mavs could somehow get him without giving up Beaubois and Chandler.

Butler, Stevenson and a single pick surely wouldn’t be a enough to pull off a trade, but anything much more than that would probably leave all Mavs fans feeling like Na ha ha He He when Melo left after the season.
